I am a casual 1st person shooter gamer, Red Dead Revolver, GTA, COD, and the original Resident Evil games back on N64. I picked up this game just to kill time and, I was getting more frustrated with the camera angles and control maneuvering than just enjoying a good series. If you are a casual gamer, this game is not for you.

I played the Demo recently, and have to say that this game looks awsome graphics wise, great soundtrack and sound effects. The story seems intriguing enough, it's certanly a change from the usual Raccoon City setting, although I didn't find it as scary as the previous RE games. Of course that is subjective and also I only played two levels. A tip of the hat goes to the partner AI, Sheva is really helpful and can certanly handle herself very well, you never feel like you have to be watching her health or getting her out of jams, quite the contrary! She's right there watching your back and giving you health boosts when needed.
My only gripes are with the games controls and camera movement, it's not that they are bad, they just take some getting used to, but coupled with a bad camera makes it even harder, you can't run and fire, and just running while controlling the camera is near imposible.
The co-op is a lot of fun online and off, overall the game looks really good and certanly worth checking it out, if you are a fan of the RE series than you have to get RE5.

Resident Evil series is AMAZING!

I must preface by saying the Resident Evil series have been my favorite video games for the past several years. Ever since RE2 on the N64, I've been hooked. The games have gradually evolved the past few years in game play and storyline. RE5 is similar in most ways to RE4, which was an amazing game. The graphics are awesome, I am surprised the game wasn't devolved in 1080p, but is by no means a problem. Not being able to walk and fire your weapon is a little annoying but you will acclimate yourself. The Artificial Intelligence is fairly responsive. There were a few instances were I found it to not be working properly. The story is phenomenal, much like its predictors. The game itself isn't very long... I procured the platinum trophy in exactly seven days. However, the game is great for replay with online play. Despite the few and minor flaws, this game should still easily rank as one of the best games of 2009. I myself would put it in the top 10 of the PS3 gaming library, but like I said, I'm a dedicated and avid fan of the series.

Another great game for the RE franchise. Having played most of the RE games in the past, I can say that this one is definitely one of the best ones. It has a great storyline, good graphics, and the fun can continue after beating the game. I like the fact that you can play online with other RE fans. My main complaint is that you have to spend $5 if you want to download the 'Versus' mode. These games are expensive as it is now-a-days. My other small complaint is the lenght of the game. I think it should have been a bit longer. I got used to RE4, which is still my favorite. However, is still longer than most other games out there. Overall, a great game for hours of entertainment!

Graphics: Excellent 9.0/10
Sound: Excellent 9.0/10
Gameplay: Very Good 7.5/10
Replay: Great 8.5/10
Overall: Great 8.5/10
Note to the reader: I have been playing the Resident Evil Series since it’s introduction on the Playstation One.
Graphics: Excellent 9.0/10
The graphics are excellent, the cut-scenes and in-game graphics are seamless, and this is as good as Capcom has done for this series. The shadows, lighting effects, and motions are great, and really immerse you into the game. The zombies, the backgrounds, and environments are detailed, rich, and engrossing.
Sound: Average – 9.0/10
The thing that Capcom has always nailed in this series is the sound, and this game is no exception. The sounds of the groans, the heightening tension of the music when an attack is coming, and the sounds of the weapons are dead on. The ambiance is set in the different areas by the increasing tones of heightening sense of importance through the use of music in this game.
Some may say that the voice work is poor, but it goes right along with the “cheesy” style that this series has always had, and the delivery is spot on for those that have been with the series for some time.
Gameplay: Very Good – 7.5/10
Let me start by saying that when playing this game with a friend in the co-op mode, there is nothing better. Having to people that can communicate and work together makes this game perfect. However, that being said, when this game is played in offline mode, it is not the best experience. The computer ally A.I. will shoot you in the back, use herbs unnecessarily, and not help in the most critical times of the game.
Replay Value – Great 8.5/10
Once the game is over, you will most likely be wanting more. Luckily, there are many unlockables, difficulty levels, and time runs to keep you busy for some time. To upgrade every weapon alone (without glitching) would take 6-8 playthroughs! The mercenaries mode, further co-op adventures, and just general playing will keep you coming back for more.
The score would have been greater if Capcom didn’t already include multiplayer on the disk, and charge $5 to download the unlock patch to play multiplayer. This is a trend I do not wish to se continue.
Overall – Great 8.5/10
This is a great game, do not get me wrong, but it is not perfect. This game is a detour off the survival horror that the series has created, and perfected, and has gone down the pure action path. This is not a bad thing, but the controls don’t lend themselves to that type of gameplay.
With less suspense, more gripping events because of the sheer amount of enemies, and over the top ammo and drive of the game, it is a mixture of Resident Evil 4, Gears of War, and the Matrix. Where this game does many things right, it is flawed and glitch in just as many areas. If this were any other title, it would not have been as scrutinized as closely as it was in this title.
Resident Evil 4 was, and still is, on my top 5 games of all time. This game will not place on that list, but I must recommend it just for the sheer fun, playability, and co-op opportunities that are available. This is a must play.

i have played previous resident evil games and i havent enjoyed one since the outbreak series on ps2. i did not care for 4 at all and in general i havent been a big fan of here is 10 bullets and 1000000 zombies, have fun. gameplay of previous resident evil games.
this game takes the series in a new dirrection, with a "dont let any zombie survive" attitude and style. no more having to run away from zombies becuase there is plenty of ammo, plenty of guns, and even weapon upgrades and a ton of unlockables that include unlimited ammo for each weapon (gun type only, no infintie grenades) character/creature figures, new characters to play online vs modes, new modes of play, higher difficulties, alternate costumes among other things including (which i think is neat) you can unlock different items (character statues for chris, sheva, the other girl whose name i cant remember, bettles, treasure chest and i think 1 more)for your playstation home house (interactive virtual world online that is free from playstation on the xcross media bar (playstation home).). it is kinda dumb and pointless but it is neat to have that little extra feature as a reward for beating certain aspects of the game. the game is definatly my favorite game at this time and i have played xbox 360 (which was a peice of junk cuase i went through 4 of them), and am new to ps3 (with in 2 months) but already own about 15 new games and have played others. this is the best game i have played in a while.
the online co-op is what sets the game apart from being just another game, if it was just a single player game it would still be good and worth buying, but it would not be what it is right now in my book. the computer AI is not good enough to do the harder modes unless you want to be a full time babysitter and stay right next to them 99% of the time which is doable but a pain, also is it me or the higher the difficulty the less your partner does...on hard they wont even pick up gold anymore..almost as lazy as real people..although i dont know anyone that wouldnt pick up free money.
the online co-op makes up for that and replaces the lazy ai with a living, thinking being capable of common sence, for the most part anyways, which breathes new life in to harder difficulties and you have someone to communicate with on the headset which is better than playing alone, and you can work out strategies and help eachother find hidden BSAA emblems and other goods that one may otherwise miss alone.
i like the new dirrection, the game is far from hard when starting out, the controls take some getting used to but in the end i give it 100% and a must own for co-op, online capabilities and fun factor. by far the best game out there at this time for ps3 in my opinion.

Resident 4, upgraded.

If your looking for the Resident Evil 5 franchise game to ONLY continue the storyline, pick this game up as it does an excellent job of this. However if you want the newest Resident Evil 5 game, and your expecting new game play this game is not for you. Resident Evil 5 picks up where Resident Evil 4 left off in terms of game play.
Actually, let me rephrase that: it is Resident Evil 4. All they have done is upgrade the graphics, remove the weapons dealer, remove the briefcase, and add a objectively absurd merchant (without a merchant) system, total overkill weapon upgrades (unlimited ammo on all weapons?), simplistic A.I.... the list goes on.
Now don't get me wrong Resident Evil 4 was an awesome game. Everything was fresh, innovating, and soon enough ended up creating a Zombie fetish.
This is not all without merit, I do see the great storyline as well as the approach that was taken to create Resident Evil 5. But come on, this is the next generation gaming we expect to see something more then just fancy graphics. Give us customizable weapons at least, smoother and better A.I, maybe a few side-story lines, even a throwing pie weapon would of made the game better.
I would HIGHLY recommend this game to those who have NOT played Resident Evil 4... Those of you who have, which I assume is most of you. Well I wont recommend it, but I won't deny that Resident evil 5 was a fun game.

A common sense buy

If you are looking into buying this game, do not read reviews from before 3/13/08. Those reviews are from people that played the demo, not the full game. This game is amazing from start to finish. The graphics, gameplay, and story come together to create one of the greatest action packed games in its genre. Previous RE games were suspense driven, which meant that you were almost constantly on the edge of your chair trying to avoid death and going back to the dreaded last checkpoint. RE 5 is more action based but it is still a game that you will not want to stop playing once you start it. For RE fans that have played them from the start, this may be disappointing at first as it was for me. However, with all the features in this game you quickly forget about the lack of suspense. Regardless of some previous features this game lacks, it is overall a must have game for the PS3 and i garruntee you will love it from start to end if you are familiar with the Resident Evil series.

Well people say that this is an attempt to move away from the re series suspenceful gameplay and land inbetween that and and action shooter. Well how true that is you must determin for yourself but to me the game is fantastic and you must realize that we are in a new era of games and gamers. This game in my opinion is a great addition to the re franchise. You can select from the current control scheme or choose the re4 control scheme. The graphics are outstanding and the gameplay is solid, although if you are not a re fan the controls will take a little getting use to, but it adds to the intensity of game play. The weapon selection and upgradability are fantastic. The point exchange system is a superb addition to the game, the higher your score on each board the more points you have to purchase specials for ingame use like unlimited ammo. It is a great game and as far as the multiplayer and vrs I have not really tried and don't know how that will work.

This is a really fun game to play. It is not going to redefine the survival horror genre, but it is fun. The partner A.I. is actually quite helpful. I just wish that she would not shoot enemies on the ground when I can knife, or stomp them. That is the only gripe with that. I will admit that the storyline kind of threw me at times, but if you know a bout the history of RE it will make sense. The only two that I have played extensively is RE4, and 5. It has a great deal of replay value. You can play as either character, change costumes and much more once you beat it. There is even more to unlock then. If you have played RE4 and loved it. you will love this game.

GAME OF THE YEAR 2009! AWESOME!

The first Resident Evil is the reason I made the switch to Playstation back in 1996. I have bought every Resident Evil game for Playstaion/2/3 good and bad. This one is by far the best one besides the classic. It appears that Capcom (almost) took full advantage of the Playstation 3 capabilities. I say almost because it's 720p and not 1080p. Call of Duty WaW runs at 1080p. This game still looks incredible..possibly the best graphics I have seen in a game so far for PS3. The storyline is great! The gameplay is (almost) awesome. You can't run and shoot which kind of sucks when you are being chased by a boss. Designers shoud have utilized the right analog stick better.(used for looking around) The graphics, lighting, story, value, and challenge make up for the other minor "designer oversights". I give this a 9.0/10.0

I was very skeptical about buying this game beacuse after playing the demo I wasn't impressed. Well I was wrong and i'm glad I bought it. This game is very fun and addicting as it gets. The only issue is the controls and the fact that you can't run and shoot. This is a big drawback but I got over it after about the first mission. I could see a lot of people not liking this game because of these problems. I'm happy I made the purchase.
