Before you buy - This adapter is designed for Level 1 (Standard Household outlet) or Level 2 AC chargers (Tesla wall connectors and Destination chargers). They are NOT compatible with Tesla Super chargers (Level 3 or DC Fast charger) Basics (For new EV Owners): There are 3 types of chargers: 1. Level 1 or Standard Household outlet (120 volts) (Tesla Mobile connector) - Adds between 3 to 4 miles of range per hour 2. Level 2 or AC (240 volts) (Tesla Destination chargers or Wall Connectors) - Adds about 30 to 45 miles of range per hour. You might not be able to add as many miles if the Tesla destination charger you’re using is on a lower amperage circuit breaker with a lower power output. Higher the Amps, higher the charging speed. Amps vary between 15 and 80 Amps. For example 60A circuit breaker provides a maximum output of 48A (80% of the circuit breaker) and not all chargers provide output of 48A). 15A circuit breaker (80% - 12A power) - 3.6 kW 60A circuit breaker (80% - 48A power) - 11.52 kW 80A circuit breaker (80% - 64A power) - 15.36 kW 100A circuit breaker (80% - 80A power) - 19.2 kW 3. Level 3 or DC Fast Charging (Tesla Super chargers typically between 72 kW to 250 kW) - Adds upto 65 to 200 miles of range in 15 min Note - Charging speed and Vehicle Range will greatly reduce during extreme weather (both Hot and Cold) Rexing Charging Adapter Pros: 1. Fast charging speed - Rexing has done an excellent job in making sure that the Adapter is able to get the maximum juice out of the Tesla Destination or Wall connectors by providing charging speeds of upto 20 kW and Amperage upto 80A. This will add upto 50 to 55 miles of range in an hour. 2. Wide coverage - Charging at more stations - Though the Charging infrastructure is slowly growing, it will be a nightmare for Non-Tesla owners to find a J1772 charging stations especially on road trips. With this adapter, it opens up a big network of about 40,000 Tesla Destination chargers that can be found at public places like hotels, restaurants, and parking garages. 3. Convenience - The upside to using a Destination Charger is that they’re usually a lot less crowded than Superchargers, and they’re usually free to use. Some locations may charge parking fee. Unlike the J1772 chargers which are only free at certain locations, Destination chargers are mostly free. 4. Safety lock - I was impressed upon opening the box to find the Safety lock with 4 keys. It will be really helpful as it gives peace of mind by locking the Adapter to the Destination charger, without the fear of someone removing the cable or stealing the adapter. 5. Travel case - The travel case is designed with care. The case is hard yet lightweight and compact making it very easy to carry it around especially on Road trips or even on local commute. Its easy to store the case in the glove box or dashboard or trunk or even under the seat without any hassle. Cons: 1. Nothing much. There are no complaints so far. First time use - Before we connect the Adapter to the J1772 port on your non-Tesla EV, we have to first connect the Tesla NACS plug into the Adapter and wait for 30 seconds for the Tesla Destination to recognize the adapter. After 30 seconds I was able to connect the J1772 adapter to my non-Tesla EV. Once inserted the adapter clicked into the place. The entire process was very easy and simple. Final verdict: Happy with the product so far. There are no cons at least for now. Overall this is a high quality product with really great features like support of 20kW/80 Amp which makes it a great buy. Also the features like compact, easy to use and safe to secure which locks makes it an excellent product.

All the other posters have detailed when and where this adapter will be useful, so no need to repeat those comments. I have a Mach-E and a Tesla Model Y and this adapter allows me to charge both of them with my Tesla Wall Charger. It is on a 60 amp 240 volt circuit in my house and that means the Tesla Wall Charger is capable of 48 amps at 240 volts AC into the car. This adapter is rated at 80 amps, so there are no issues with maximum capacity of the adapter. In fact, at full power, it does not even get warm like the cable between the charger and the car. However, PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO USE THIS ADAPTER AT A TESLA SUPERCHARGER!!!!!! They are capable of up to 250 amps at 400 volts DC and this plug is NOT rated for that use. I am not sure what would happen if you tried it, as perhaps the Supercharger might recognize it as an adapter and not allow charging to begin. At home, it takes about 30 seconds for the Tesla Wall Charger to recognize the plug before charging can begin. Once it starts, it is flawless. The first couple of times I plugged the Tesla connector into the Rexing Adapter, it was a tight fit which is OK, but eventually it loosened up a bit. It is here I must mention that the first adapter I received had 3 cracks emanating from one of the holes in the side where it appears pins were inserted during the manufacturing process. I contacted Rexing and they IMMEDIATLY sent a replacement (2 days shipping) which I thought was extraordinary customer service. Wow - was I impressed with their responsiveness and their ability to make it right! The new one is the one I am reviewing and I am thrilled with it. I like the hard case it comes in for storage as it will keep it safe from just about anything. The foam padding could be improved by gluing it to the bottom of the case as it is just a loose insert, but this is nothing but a nit-pick from me. Functionally, the foam insert works great. I have not used the provided barrel keys (high security) that lock it to the car since I have only used it at home, but this is a thoughtful addition when you use it in public charging locations. I keep the one key on my key fob and the others in the carrying case with the adapter. Overall, I give this one 5 stars for quality build, thoughtful engineering, a nice carrying case with locking mechanism, and really, really great customer service.

Tesla is the number 1 selling EV in the U.S. and has a large network of chargers. Rexing’s adapter allows cars from other makers to use some of those chargers. Most EV owners will not need this in 2023. However, it can be very useful if you already own a Tesla with an NACS home charger. Using the adapter, there’s no need to install a 2nd home charger. With more manufacturers commited to using the NACS connector on their new cars, this will become increasingly useful for families with more than one EV and/or when visiting others. The adapter is designed to work only with either destination chargers or home chargers. These have a maximum output of 12KW. This adapter WILL NOT work with the high speed charges Tesla has along major routes. This will not speed up your car’s charging beyond it’s stated speed. I have a Nissan LEAF and it still charges at only 6.6KW on a Tesla destination charger with this adapter. The adapter has a small switch on the bottom which can be used to hold the NACS (Tesla) plug to it. This will keep the plug from coming out accidentally, but will not keep anyone from sliding the switch back and disconnecting the plug. There’s a key lock which can be used to lock the adapter to your car. This is useful if you’re at a public station and you want to ensure no one walks away with it during a long charge. Since a charge with this adapter will often be 4-6 hours, that’s very useful. Unfortunately, you can’t lock it until it’s plugged into the car. In my case, the charge port cover comes too close to the plug to make the key usable. Overall, this is a well designed product coming to the market at the right time and at a reasonable price. You may be able to find cheaper ones available for mail order, but given the voltages involved, I’m not sure I’d trust an off-brand for something like this. Rexing has a history of quality automotive accesories. I’ve had one of their dash cameras for a few years and I’ve been happy with it. I expect a similar experience with this.

This is something I have wanted for a while to have peace of mind for long trips. As most owners of any EV other than Tesla know - there's a lot more Tesla chargers out there than the kind we need (J1772 or CCS for DC fast charging). And this handy adapter, tries to get our toe into the Tesla charging network. Although its important to note this is NOT for DC fast charging, or as Tesla calls it "super" charging, but for the L1 and L2 charging, or as Tesla calls it destination chargers. These are the chargers you would install at your home, or some hotels have, for folks to charge overnight. I have seen many hotels with a destination charger and only a few hotels that have any charging for the other EVs. Even though that number is growing, given the fact that GM and Ford have both decided to sign on to Tesla's charging protocol (NACS), that could slow down the expansion of the network for rest of us. Back to the adapter at hand, it works as advertised. The few times I have used it, I did not have any issues with charging itself. But I do not like the J1772(car) side notch/lock mechanism. It just does not feel like it will last, and the mechanism to actually lock it with a key, is a disaster waiting to happen if you misplace the key. There has to be a better way - my car has an option to lock the charger when doors are locked or charging is underway - so just a spring loaded mechanism with that would work for me. Apart from that I love the small form factor and the nice carry case it comes with, it is truly small enough to fit in many nooks and corners of my car's boot and frunk. And the case has soft foam inside, so you don't hear it knocking about because of this moving inside the case (believe me I have plenty of those in my car already).

This adapter is a breeze to use and i really like the secure locking feature.
