Perhaps, Peckinpah's finest movie, and a fitting "swan song" for Randolph Scott and Joel McCrea.

A great western that grows on you featuring two great actors in the twilight of their careers. I had to watch this movie again to make sure I wasn't imagining how good it is. A great western can't be that without a rip-roaring gunfight at the end. Great scenery too!

I can't think of a better place to begin investigating Randolph Scott's westerns, though McCrea's finest moments do occur in Oklahoma (though in a very different way he's perfect in this role.) Obviously, the film has been rehabiliated and beautiful refurbished here. The acting is outstanding and the director scores well, without the blood and guts of his later efforts, obviously good in a very different way (ie. the Wild Bunch....) Well worth the modest price for one of the finest westerns ever made. Bravo!
