Nintendo Quality! Perfect for General Fitness

An exercise game has two important, and very obvious, components. Gameplay/fun and exercise.
To be clear, despite being an exercise game, this has all the polish and love you expect from a first party Nintendo game. The music is great and the art style works really well. The gameplay has more than I expected. You run (literally) through a linear, though with some branching paths, level where you'll have to battle monsters in turn based battles. You have to defeat these monsters through the power of exercise! Choose an exercise and complete a set to damage the enemy. Each enemy is a different color which represents what set of exercises they're weak to. Another wrinkle is the ability to collect ingredients throughout the levels and make smoothies to heal or buff yourself during battles. These battles are obviously not as in depth as, say, Final Fantasy VI, but they are more fun than you'd expect from an exercise game! So no casual gamer should feel intimidated.
Exercise-wise, this game completely kicks my butt. Wii Fit was nice, but it was limited by the fact that it was controlled by a stationary board on the floor. Here you have full range of motion. It comes with a pilates ring and a strap that you tie to your thigh. This gives you a much bigger range of exercises compared to the Wii. That means you are getting a butt kicking. But don't fret! There are 30 different difficulty levels if you're finding anything too difficult. If you're looking for strength training, it's not really here. But for just general fitness you absolutely CAN get results and feel better with this game! Keep it up 4-5 times a week, you can't really go wrong with the exercises here.
In addition to this exercise talk, this game does have a pretty positive tone. A friendly writer helps you through your warm ups and cool downs and congratulates you on what you accomplished during your session.
In summary, despite being an exercise game, this has the finish that you would expect from an in-house Nintendo game. From the music to the gameplay. The gameplay/battles have just enough depth to it to be interesting but not be overwhelming for casual gamers.
The way it's set up allows a greater range of motion, so the exercises in the game are varied and helps with general fitness.
Recommend this to anyone that wants to just get moving and increase their general fitness indoors!

As first hand experience I can say that this thing really does give you a workout, if you think that this is just a videogame it wont actually help me. THINK AGAIN. This thing really makes you break a sweat and leaves you sore the next day (I should know as I am sore writing this.) There are plenty of different yoga/streaking/workouts that are crammed into this thing and to top it all off the game is actually really fun to! I know from experience that having the motivation to get up and work out to see very little results is very disheartening, but when you put the exercise together with a game that is genially fun it makes you want to work out! (And as a person who HATES the thought if doing yoga here I am playing a silly little adventure game doing yoga screeches, funny how that works out huh?) Over all this is a great package and the only reason I give it a 4 out of 5 stars is the price. It is kind of expensive for 1 ring and a leg strap.(Oh and side note that ring is very durable and can handle the constant pushing and pulling that the game requires you to do.) Because I do believe it should be 60 buck or heck and put it on sale for a week or SOMETHING because its a good game but I cant see a lot of people not spending 80 dollars on a workout game and that's kind of sad. Overall a great package and money well spent if you ask me.(P.S if your getting this for a person who has a switch lite you WILL need to buy extra joycons to play the game and those i think are 80 bucks themselves so just FYI.)

The day after Thanksgiving I got myself an apple watch in hoping to help motivate me with my health and getting more into shape. Just about exactly two months later, it's literally changed my life, as it's motivated me to change my entire diet, consistently workout and exercise every single day, and now I'm officially down 17 pounds.
My core "fitness gaming" routines have consisted of Beat Saber, Creed Rise to Glory, and Ring Fit Adventure. Along with exercising, I've been eating fruits and/or veggies every day, tracking calories consumed/burned, drinking about 100 oz of water every day, plenty of protein intake, and ultimately being more health conscious overall.
With this being said, I'm now starting to physically feel the changes within my body, as well as feel the differences! I've significantly conditioned myself, toning up muscle as well as losing weight, and fitness has now become a major incorporation in my daily lifestyle.

Way more challenging and fun than I expected. I really like Wii Fit and Wii Fit Plus, but they really failed in keeping the player engaged for a long period of time. Ring Fit not only keeps you engaged, but it actually helps associate fun with exercising. I now find myself enjoying working out, even when not playing this game. Nintendo did a great job here.

Without question, Ring Fit Adventure is one of the best fitness games on the market right now. With fewer heavy peripherals than Wii Fit, this game is much more fun and engaging, making you want to turn on the console and work up a sweat with your Switch. At a time when going to the gym is ill advised, this game is an excellent way to incorporate movement and exercise in your daily routine. The only issue you might have is getting your hands on one.
As for the game itself, it plays like a JRPG, with four categories of exercises: arms, abs, legs, and yoga. These 'Fit Skills' are used to battle enemies while you jog your way through a colorful, fitness based world. There is a seamless blend of physical movement and gameplay, with the switch controllers accurately tracking movement using the included leg band and pilates ring. It's corny and charming, providing encouragement, trivia, and advice to help you lead a healthier lifestyle.

Ring Fit Adventure is a mediocre RPG, at best. As a workout routine, I get a better exercise using my bowflex or using exercise videos. However, combining the RPG elements with working out, this game (or maybe I should say 'experience') is awesome.
With Ring Fit Adventure, I actually look forward to working out as I am driving home from a long day at work. No longer is working out a chore that needs to be checked off my to-do list, but it is actually fun.
While I am definitely not getting the physical results that I would from my more stressful workout avenues (bowflex, exercise videos, etc.), in the long-run I will be better off because I actually want to stick to this workout.
And I strongly encourage this for anyone, for there are 30 levels of difficulty, and I am finding level 19 to be a great challenge (and I would say I am decently in-shape).

This is a fun game that can get your heart rate up, if your not in the best shape of your life. I just like the game play, and during this time of lockdowns, its worth the investment. My kid like it too... (age 6). Its just fan and gets us moving instead of sitting around playing games. It wont replace a real workout routine, but worth picking up for sure.

I was never sold on the peripheral gaming craze of the Wii. However, being stuck at home for the last few months and not been able to go to the gym (and being self-conscious outside), I've been craving motivating physical activities I can do at home. So, with that in mind I decided to give the Ring Fit Adventure game a chance.
Out of the box, it sure does look like a gimmicky hoola hoop. Setting it up is very easy and to make it even easier, the game itself gives you video instructions on how to put the controllers in, and how to properly wear it. One controller goes on the hoop and the other is strapped on the leg. Yes, I still think it looks a bit silly.
Once ready, the game gives you a "fitness test" and then takes you through a tutorial that is rather fun. The adventure part is simply a linear running game with ring movements. I actually ended up sweating by the end of the first section! The adventure throws different activities to beat the baddies and bosses.
Now the game also offers actual fitness activities. From running in place, to working out specific body areas, I found that they were for the most part actually quite well put together and felt that they were accurate. There is also a welcome cooling down section after every session that I recommend going through.
Then, there are the challenges. This is where I found the premise to be the most fun and effective. From doing 100 squeezes in a minute, to "running" at a certain pace, they are quite challenging and addictive as I kept trying to beat the records. The only problem I experienced was the body soreness and muscle aches the next day (>_<)!
Overall, Ring Fit Adventures exceeded my expectations. I no longer consider it a gimmick as it has injected new motivation to "work out and play" at home. I would highly recommend it for anyone that owns a Switch and does not want the guilt of sitting down and play all day.

I have finally able to get a copy of Ring Fit Adventure. Back in February, right before leaving for Japan for a month, I was in the local Best Buy store and had it in my hand and thought about buying it. I figured I'd wait till I get back from Japan as I did not feel like spending yet another $80 on top of the $300 for the Sony headphones I was also buying that evening, plus the money I needed for the Japan trip. Well, no sooner I get back is when the COVID-19 lockdowns hit! With the gyms being closed, I really wish I'd bought Ring Fit Adventure as it pretty much became unobtainium at that point. At least with springtime coming and the warmer weather, I was able to make do with outdoor exercising such as running, cycling, swimming. Now that autumn is here and weather is getting colder, it is nice to finally have a good way to workout in the house as I am still not really comfortable to return to the gym with all the COVID-19 restrictions sill in place.
To give a little bit of my background, I have ran a few marathons, have pedaled a few centuries and even competed in a few triathlons. I am also a professional skier, so I do a lot of physical training to keep myself in shape, including going to the gym to lift weights as well as attending many of the group exercise classes. Unfortunately, with the current situation, I have not been able to really get to the gym, so in comes Ring Fit Adventure.
Within the Ring Fit Adventure box, you will find three major components. The first thing you will find upon opening the box is the game software itself in the form of the physical game cartridge you would need to insert in your Nintendo Switch. The second component is what is essentially a Pilates ring in which you slot the right Joy-Con controller. Nintendo dubs this the Ring-Con. The third piece is a leg strap with a pouch in which to insert the left Joy-Con controller and is fastened around you left upper thigh with velcro. The Ring-Con ring is actually pretty well built. It has certainly taken a bit of abuse from this relatively large guy! The leg strap does sometime have an annoying tendency to slide down my thigh. I found wearing a pair of tights on which the strap can kinda grab helps with that as oppose on my bare legs under my shorts.
The actual game consists of a main story campaign that plays out like an action RPG, along with several other modes include "quick mode" in which you could just do workouts, several mini-games, a mode were you can do the running through scenery, and more. A recent update even added a rhythm game, although I've yet to try it.
The main part of the game is the actual story campaign. You are playing as a young athlete that gets tricked into releasing a 'roided-up' dragon call Dragaux. Along with you is an anthropomorphized Pilates ring called, well, Ring. He basically acts as your guide and fitness training. You pretty much will run through the various ares while running in place. There are various obstacles you would encounter that you would have to get around or clear by performing certain exercise moves. For examples, sometimes you will encounter a large boulder in your path that you would have to "crush" by squeezing the Ring-Con against your abs and holding it for a small bit. Eventually you will encounter monsters along the way that you have to do battle with. This is were the main workout really occurs. To defeat the monsters you have to perform various exercises. As you work through the story campaign, you will unlock more exercises to use against the monsters. In addition, the exercises are color coded, such as blue for legs, red for arms, etc. There is a point where you would gain an attack advantage of performing an exercise against a monster of the same color, such as arm exercises against red monsters. When the monsters attack, you have to perform a defense by squeezing and holding the ring against your abs to basically put up a shield. In addition, you eventually can upgrade your character's outfits, to gain better attack and defense bonus, kinda like getting better armor in most traditional RPGs. Also like potions in traditional RPGs, there are smoothies that you drink to regain health, buff your character, etc. There is also a fairly simple crafting mechanic in which you collect ingredients as well as gain smoothie recipes to make more smoothies. Compared to most traditional RPGs, such as Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest, this is not the most deepest of experiences. There is some strategy that can be used between using the matching color exercises against the monsters as well as some exercises attack multiple enemies for smaller damage or a single enemy for larger damage, especially the Yoga moves. Also, you pretty much move in a linear fashion, "on rails" through the world, so there is no going off to explore. In addition, if approached like a "normal" game, it can actually get repetitive as well, especially in the later part. Still the whole idea is to make it all accessible to anyone, even those that have never played an RPG, that would like to have a fun and unique way to try to get some physical fitness in. The whole thing is presented in a very colorful and typical Nintendo positive way. The scenery is bright and colorful. Some of the outdoor sequences actually kinda look a bit like the old Road Runner cartoons. Also the actual story is basically trying to tell how physical fitness can be fun and does have to be intimidating. The dragon basically represent all that is toxic to the fitness culture. That guy you seem to always see at the gym that grunts loudly, can be a bit egotistical, always showing off his muscles, giving bad fitness advice to anybody whether they wanted it or not, and that kind of thing.
As to the actual physical fitness part, I find it will not completely replace a good workout like I could get at the gym, especially with some of the group exercise classes as well as what I normally do with weights. Still, I can get a really good workout with this thing, plus I have the difficulty set fairly high. It is especially nice given the current COVID-19 situation as I don't really feel comfortable going back to the gym yet with all the restrictions and such. In addition, the game presents the physical fitness in a very positive and gentle/accessible way. It will show how to correctly perform the moves and the game does a fairly good job of accurately tracking your moves. On occasion, it will miss a rep, but not enough to detract from the experience. Personally, I do have a problem with it tracking squats for me, especially given the knee surgery I've have a few years ago, thus I am unable to squat really low. With that said, I will have to dive into the game settings as there are plenty to allow customization to setup your workout to what works best for you. This thing is supposedly be able to accommodate anybody from those that are getting of the couch for the first time to somebody like me that is a marathon runner/triathlete. Also, there is nothing in the game that talks about weight, BMI, and that type. If you are getting this specifically to lose weight, you are not going to find any weight-loss specific guidance here. You will only find general fitness guidance such as proper form, rest, eating a balanced diet, etc. Also, after about 15 minutes of actual exercise, the game will prompt you to quit and take a break, but you can easily dismiss it, although it will warn you to not overdo it and to stay hydrated. Most likely that is a way for Nintendo to cover their butts in case somebody does go a bit overboard and end up getting hurt. As I typically like to get a good half an hour or so in, I end up having to dismiss that prompt a couple of times.
As I mentioned, there are other modes for those that don't want to go through the story campaign and just want to get a workout in. There are some fun mini-games to play as well, complete with leader boards. Although to access the leader boards, you do need the online Nintendo service, which I don't have (just what we need in this world - yet ANOTHER subscription service!).
Finally, to really get the most out of Ring Fit Adventure, you need the full Switch console, with the detachable Joy-Con controllers, not the Switch Lite. If you have an extra set of Joy-Con controllers, it may be theoretically possible to play this on a Switch Lite, but since a Switch Lite cannot be docked to use the large TV screen, it would be difficult to play this using the tiny screen of the Switch Lite itself as it would be hard to see the exercise demonstrations and to read the text (and there is a lot of text).
Overall, if you are looking for a really fun and accessible way to get a fitness workout in, and you have a Switch console, I would recommend getting this. I've seen some gripe about the price of this thing at $80. However, compared to a gym membership, that is only about two months worth of what a typical gym membership costs. If you can stick with it and perhaps even use it as a "gateway" to other physical fitness pursuits, I honestly believe you will see actual results in your overall physical fitness, whether that is losing weight, getting better muscle tone, or just generally trying to feel better about yourself.

This thing will kick your butt. I was curious about how challenging this game was going to be and it literally blew me out of the water. For context, I go to the gym 3 times a week and try to do cardio, either hiking or a 2 mile run through the neighborhood, twice a week on top of the gym. I started this on the difficulty a little just above what would be classified as "normal" and my legs were on fire the whole week. Of course if you lower it or start on the easier I'm sure it won't do much for you. I try to use this now on bad weather days or lazy days that I do not want to go outdoors. I also think if you are trying to get back into a workout routine or even start one this is perfect for you to start getting assimilated. Other than that, I wouldn't make it your primary go to but should be added as a supplemental routine.

My two kids (10yo daughter and 6yo son) enjoy games that get you moving. I thought it looked fun myself, so I bought it for us to compete with one another. I thought I would ace through the adventure as I workout regularly with weights and jogging outdoors. I immediately chose the maximum setting thinking it wouldn't be that difficult, but it is. The intensity setting changes the speed at which your character moves based on your movements, more reps per attack move, and I think the amount of damage you do on top of how much exp you get.
In any case, the challenge mini games will cause muscle failure because it's based on how many reps you do in a certain amount of time. Every time I use it, I'm sweating after a few completed levels. I'm also a sucker for rpgs because I like unlocking things as I progress and improving your attack/defense stats. So far, I think this is a better workout than any game or peripheral Nintendo has had previously.

My favorite Nintendo is the Nintendo that is not afraid of bringing new experiences to the forefront of gaming, and Ring Fit Adventure brings just that to the table. When the first teaser came out, we were all like, “what in the world?” But I am here to tell you the Ring-Con is here and it works well. And for those that are wondering, someone measured the amount of the force needed to compress it completely, and it’s roughly 18lbs. The tech works and it’s eerily accurate. This should not be unexpected since it’s Nintendo.
Let’s get into the game itself: Nintendo has made exercising fun and made a turn based RPG out of exercising. You literally run(in place) in the levels pushing and pulling the ring-con through different obstacles until you run into enemies. This is where the turn based aspects begin. Each exercise you gain from leveling up is used as an attack, with their own range and damage power. You follow the on screen prompts and depending how well you perform each move, you get an ok, good, or great. It works really well. Yes the game will make you sweat and you will feel the burn from all the squats at the start of the game. Trust me!
All this is presented in a traditional RPG set up. There are items/buffs, there are move sets you choose for your battles, there are shops, and there is even a skill tree(?!)
The game oozes personality and polish.
So far it’s been a week, and I am on World 5 of a supposed 20 worlds. Each world is getting larger so the game should last a long while. When you finish, you can start over although it is unclear if it saves your progress for a type of new game plus mode.
In addition to the main adventure mode, there are quick work outs where you can choose what muscle groups you want to work out for the day, or you can pass the ring-con around and challenge your friends to see who can get the highest score in each of the mini games.
Post launch support for the game remains to be seen, but it’s begging to have some DLC to lengthen the adventure.
Note, as of this review, no one has finished the game yet.
I would rate it a 4.5-5 — there are still things Nintendo can improve on, and the very nature of the game itself might not be for everyone, but I implore you to give this game a shot.

Wow, the Ring-con is a great tension exercise tool, made fun with Nintendo's unique exer-gaming adventure. Offers a great variety of play options- from the longer, dedicated adventure mode to the quick free-play exercises. The hardware is sturdy, which includes the Ring-con and leg strap. Easy to slide in your Joy-con controllers to use. Your pulse is even measured with the IR sensor on the Joy-con. The Ring-con is well padded and does awesome at measuring your force of inward pushes and outward pulls. Easily multiplayer too, with the support of multiple Switch account saves and quick way to detach leg strap and pass the Ring-con to other players. The exercises and mini-games are varied, some better than others, but there is enough here to really make you break a sweat. It keeps record of your playtime, calories burned, and level of activity. Visually, the game is light-hearted Nintendo fun. Really enjoyed my first few Adventure game sessions and it gave a hard workout in the quick play exercise modes. A fun variation to fitness training (and another great Nintendo Switch exercises addition to Fitness Boxing). Enjoyed this and challenged me more than I thought it would! Highly recommended!!
