This camera is not as good as the older camera. It does not have the best night vision at all.

Poor network connectivity can affect the performance of your Ring device. We are happy to share some troubleshooting steps to help you diagnose and fix common video issues that you may experience with Ring doorbells and cameras.
Ring devices with 2k video require at least 15 Mbps upload and download speeds for optimal performance. In addition to ensuring that you have sufficient wifi speeds, you will also want to check the signal strength of your device. A poor wifi signal can cause connectivity with your Ring device to be unreliable.
Check the Device Health section of your Ring application to ensure the device’s RSSI is within an acceptable range. The recommended range for optimal performance is 0 to -60 for the RSSI. Turn off your mobile device's cellular data and connect to the same wifi network as your Ring device. Open the Ring app. Tap the menu (☰). Tap “Devices.” Select your device. Trigger an event on your Ring device. This could mean pressing the button on a doorbell or activating the motion sensors on a camera. Answer the event and examine the resulting video.
We have listed some possible outcomes from this test here:
1. The footage is crisp and clear. If your video appears good when next to the router, the issue may be caused by a disruption in between your router and your Ring device’s normal location. To fix this, try moving your device closer to the router or extending your wifi signal with a wifi extender like the Ring Chime Pro.
2. The footage is heavily pixelated. If you’re seeing heavy pixilation, even next to the router, this may be due to slow wifi speeds.
3. There are severe pauses in live video. If your video pauses, stutters, or gets frozen and your wifi speed meets the minimum standards, try rebooting your router. Unplug your router, wait 30 seconds, and then plug it back in. It should take three to four minutes to reboot. Then, test your Ring device again and see if there's any difference.
4. There is a long delay before your video starts. This is also caused by slow wifi speeds. Assuming you have high-speed internet, reboot your router and the mobile phone, tablet, or PC you're accessing the video feed on. Test an event when it's back online to see if there's any difference.

It sounds like the device is not performing as expected in regards to motion detection. It is important to ensure that you have the proper motion settings in place for your environment. Here are a few tips to optimize the motion settings on your security camera:
1. Adjust Motion Sensitivity: Ring devices can detect motion up to 30 feet with the Motion Sensitivity slider at the maximum level. If you turn Motion Sensitivity down, this range will be lower, decreasing false motion. If your device is missing motion, increase the Motion Sensitivity using the slider. 2. Change the position of your Ring device: Adjust the position of your camera to improve the accuracy of motion detection. 3. Turn on Smart Alerts: You can enable Smart Alerts on your doorbell or camera to improve motion accuracy in detecting people and other objects, including packages. To turn on Smart Alerts, tap the Motion Settings tile on the device’s page in the Ring app. A Ring Home Plan is required to use Smart Alerts. 4. Change the Motion Frequency: Under Advanced Settings, tap Motion Frequency. You can adjust how often battery-powered devices check for motion. If your device is missing motion events, increase the Motion Frequency to Frequently (Shortest battery life—Motion detection always stays active) in the Ring app. If too much motion is being detected, change the frequency to Regularly (Medium battery life—Motion detection takes a short break after each motion alert) or Periodically (Maximum battery life—Motion detection takes a longer break after each alert).

Accuracy in motion detection can also be improved by enabling "Smart Alerts" for people only in your Ring app. To enable "Smart Alerts":
Tap the menu (≡) on the top left. Tap "Devices." Tap the device that you want to adjust. Tap "Motion Settings." Tap "Smart Alerts." Tap "Enable Feature." Tap "Continue." Select the notification options that you want for "Person" and "Other Motion." You'll see a video camera where you can select or de-select recording and a bell icon to represent alert notifications. After you've adjusted your settings, tap "Done."

Great Camera to Watch Over Anything

Ring has long been known for their video doorbells that help you keep an eye on your front (or back) door from anywhere. ALL that experience in building compact but high performing video cameras that can run forever on battery power in all conditions is on full display with this Outdoor Cam Plus. At its heart is a high performing wide angle video camera that gets great pictures in all conditions, day and night (the camera includes infrared illumination to get solid black and white pictures at night). You can see a lot given the wide angle and it’s all clear (there is some distortion at the edges given the wide angle nature of the lens, but that’s normal with any camera equipped with that type of lens and a fair trade off for the wider field of view). The camera is fully waterproofed so it can live outside (though it’s equally at home indoors) and the battery lasts a LONG time though of course this will depend on how much you’re using live view / how often the motion is triggered. You can also run the camera plugged in if you wish, but you’ll give up some of the waterproof nature to do so.
Setup was quite easy (though you’ll need the latest version of the Ring app to do the setup) and it can connect to a variety of WiFi networks. Once connected, it’s pretty set and forget. You also get a trial (30 days) to the Ring cloud service which is key if you want to record events / get notifications to your phone. You can choose to buy a subscription for a single camera or for all cameras on your account and the subscriptions are fairly reasonable, but something you should consider when buying the camera. Mounting is also fairly easy and the mount is very flexible to different orientations and positions. You can also set the camera on a shelf or other handy location if you don’t want to mount it.
So there you have it - a flexible, go anywhere battery powered camera from the name in outdoor home video monitoring. If you’re looking to keep an eye on something or some place, this is a great option - give it a try today!

I was pretty excited to give this a try, as I really was looking for something without wires that I could easily mount and set up in the spot I was looking to cover. Overall, I didn’t really have any issues getting it where I wanted it or with the setup process. It’s about what you would expect, more or less all done through the app. This is my first Ring device, but I would expect those familiar with the line would have an even easier time.
Once up, I have to say I am pretty impressed. I think the video quality is very good, day or night, regardless of the lighting. Clear and crisp. Beyond that though, I like the feature set. Live view worked as I hoped, motion detection was responsive and prompt, as was the two-way talk feature. The siren is a nice add and I really don’t think I need much more. At least for now. I am thinking about picking up another one or two, and I really want to look into the Ring plans to see how much or what I really need. I like the coverage and features, as they are, but I will see. Additionally, I need to see how the battery holds up. I “think” I can add a solar panel, or even just buy another camera with the panel, but that may be overkill, especially if I am ok with the battery life.
Ultimately, I really like this camera. It is built well, and I think it should hold up over time, there are a few mounting options which made the installation simple, and the setup was also an easy process. Most importantly, I think it delivers a clear picture and has all of the features I was looking for. I do think you miss a few things that would be nice to have without a subscription, but that is more of an individual choice than anything. I think this would be great for a first camera, like me, or as an addition to an existing setup. I think the value is there.

The micro USB charging cable should be used to charge to removable rechargeable battery pack that is included with your device.
Follow these steps to charge the battery pack for your device: Open the battery compartment: Remove the security screw first. Twist the battery cover counter-clockwise to unlock it, then remove it from your Ring Outdoor Cam Plus. Remove the battery: Press the metal release tab to unlock the battery and slide it out. Charge the battery: Connect the charging cable to the battery's charging port. While charging, your battery displays two colored lights, a solid green and an amber light. Charge the battery until only the green light remains lit. Reinsert the battery: Slide the fully-charged battery back into the Ring Outdoor Cam Plus until it clicks in place. Close the battery compartment: Twist the battery cover clockwise to lock it. Make sure to replace the security screw. Wait for the device to power back on: It can take up to 60 seconds.
