    A decent movie

This is a sequel (not a prequel) to the two Ring movies starring Naomi Watts in the early to mid 2000s. It is mostly a reboot, and part continuation of the story. The original Ring video tape is found, then digitized making it easier to have a tail watch it, so the original watcher does not die (in theory at least). As you can expect the execution of that ends up a bit off. The movie attempts to add to, and in the process change part of the Samara story line. So while parts of it line up with the original movies, parts do not. I will not go into great deal for those who do not want to be spoiled, just know that it is not a traditional sequel to the story line told in the earlier films. The acting and writing are about what you would expect. It is okay, but not great. While it is still mainly a psychological thriller as opposed to a gory one, it was toned down even more from the earlier movies to get a PG-13 rating. For extras, there are a handful of making of and behind the scenes material, then about 20 min of deleted and extended scenes. Okay for what is there, and clocking in at about 45 min, which is fine given the movie itself was only about an hour and a half. I fall firmly in the middle on this movie. I do not love it, but do not despise it. You would not be missing anything noteworthy if you skip it, but if you are looking for a thriller, bordering on horror movie, then this is okay.

It’s not saying much that this movie is better than Rings but it was still a solid movie.

This is the 3rd movie in the franchise. There is a good twist to it. They add more to the story. I liked it better than the 2nd movie

First off, Gore Verbinski's version of The Ring is one of the greatest remakes that Hollywood has ever made. The new film, Rings, is a decent entry into the franchise. I like the fact that they incorporated modern technology into it and that Samara can be anywhere and get you anywhere. Acting was so so but I do hope that they make another one.

I loved the original Japanese RINGU. I actually saw it on VCD for those who have been around that long. I wasn't really a big fan of the USA remake or it's sequel - other than when we watched the first USA remake after the video play (I KID YOU NOT!) our phone rang! You can't buy that kind of fun! I kind of wanted to like it but it's barely average. It's kind of the same story - the same video - still in the Pacific Northwest. But it does have a bit different spin. I would have like to see them really play out the 'tech/science' side of it but it didn't go there instead going to the spooky story and can it all be resolved. Past that I did like how it ended. It did go back techie which was fun but realistically it was to late to save the movie.

I have to admit, I wasn't absolutely thrilled with this movie. I felt like more could have been done with the end and that how they portray Samara at the end is no different than the previous movies. But the overall movie was entertaining. It expanded on Samara and Evelyn's background. 4 out of 5.

There are a few updates to this latest instalment: (1) since VCR is virtually obsolete, the tape is now transmitted through your computer, (2) Samara now can climb out of flat panel TV instead of old bulky CRT TV. To appreciate this movie better, I strongly recommend you watch the “Extras” too. Here, I learn that Bonnie Morgan, who played Samara, is a contortionist. That is why you see her doing the creepy spider crawl out of the TV with her leg in front of her body (or chasing Naomi Watts up the wall of the well in the last “Ring” movie, though not credited). She also wears over 50 appliances on her body plus a tube connecting to a water pump to allow the character to constantly drip water. Also there is an alternate ending. Personally I prefer the alternate ending…more suspenseful. Don’t miss this. (Movie: 4/5)

Going into this movie didn't think much of it because of all the bad reviews I saw for it but it wasn't as bad as I thought definitely not as good as the first one but it's not that bad of a movie. Definitely Check it out and not just listen or let the reviews effect you on viewing this movie.

this movie went in a different direction than the first ones. it is interesting to see but not sure about the way it ended. the two main characters are good but the supporting around them mediocre at best. the premiss is a little weak but could see it happening in the world today.

This is the eighth film in "The Ring" series (counting Japanese as well as U.S. productions). "Rings" updates the evil technology from VHS to PC, and the cultural background as well. Liberal use is made of clips from the first U.S. release, which adds to the effect, and the same actress who portrayed the double-jointed femme fatale in the first U.S. production is back again, in the same role. Got right: At the very end we see, with a jolt, what our current technology can do for us, and it isn't pretty. About 4/5th of the way through, though, the climactic 'horror' scene is too long, and drags. But mostly this movie is worth seeing - and a must-buy for "Ring" fans.

I liked the fact that this film gave the back story to how it all began. When the original movie came out, it was terrifying for its time - this one was not the least bit scary. There was so much potential to relaunch this series, I just wish they did a better job.

Yes, I know, yet another sequel to the franchise. Hard to make it scary when you've seen Samara do her thing in 2 films already. Still, there are enough variations on the theme to make it watchable. It's obvious they're going to keep churning these things out.

The movie is still around the girl and the video. Then the story goes in a different direction and made it a more interesting show to watch. You also finally get the backstory on the girl I hope they follow it up would love to see where this goes

This movie is a really good sequel to the previous movies. I like movies that explain prequels and then add more twists, turns and suspense with an scary explosion at the end. Really recommend this movie. Loved the first two movies.

I'm sure this movie got a lot of flack, but I truly enjoyed it! I love a good back story, and the movie also reflected the evolution of technology and therefore the evolution of Samara's reach in this new, advanced world!
