Blu is a domesticated Macaw who never learned to fly, and enjoys a comfortable life with his owner and best friend Linda in the small town of Moose Lake, Minnesota. Blu and Linda think he's the last of his kind, but when they learn about another macaw who lives in Rio de Janeiro, they head to the faraway and exotic land to find Jewel, Blu's female counterpart. Not long after they arrive, Blu and Jewel are kidnapped by a group of bungling animal smugglers. Blu escapes, aided by the street smart Jewel and a group of wisecracking and smooth-talking city birds. Now, with his new friends by his side, Blu will have to find the courage to learn to fly, thwart the kidnappers who are hot on their trail, and return to Linda, the best friend a bird ever had.

This is a good, animated film for the whole family.

The story begins when a baby blue macaw in the Brazilian rain forest falls (literally) into the hands of exotic animal poachers and ends up being shipped to the US where, by a fortunate accident, he ends up being adopted by a young girl named Linda in a small town in, of all places, wintry Minnesota. A quick flash forward shows girl and bird, which she names Blu, growing up together, to fifteen years later where Linda is now an adult who owns her own bookstore. The thing is though, Blu, raised as a house-bird, never learned how to fly.

This was a big name and now is pretty cheap to pick up. Glad I got it, really enjoyed the show. Later on got the Rio 2 for cheap as well and I think the sequel might even be better than the original.

My kids love watching this movie, when we first watched it my youngest was about shy of a year and he was entertained the whole time whilst my oldest had a blast. What better movie than to watch with the family, learn a little bit about the Mackaw bird and enjoyed the graphics and the humor brought from George Lopez and listening to Jamie Foxx and Will.i.am!!!

I purchased the RIO 1 and RIO 2 for my granddaughters..They were beside themselves watching this.I was also surprised at how quiet the adult were as we sat watching this. My daughter uses video to entertain the little one on a trip to our home..When your grandchildren think "GRANNIE" is the greatest thing for bying these video...PRICE is no option..Thanks Best BUY for prompt service

From Start to finish this movie was great. The music is great and its for all ages! All my kids loved it and myself and my wife. I found myself listening to the songs on youtube, thats how good they were! my kids range from 2 to 6 they watch it every day and still cant get enough my 2 year old loves to sing the songs and bounces around like crazy! Bluray looks great, so worth the buy!!

This is a great kids movie and getting both the digital and DVD at once is great - that way it can be downloaded to the children's tablets so they can watch it while in the car or in a cart in the store while Mom and Grandma shop, or they can watch it at home or bring along for a 'movie and popcorn night' at grandma's house.

Rio is very colorful (literally and figuratively), and a fun movie to watch with the kiddos. Lots of laughs and original humor with some expected punchlines. My only criticism is that the male lead is a bumbling idiot and the woman is the hero in charge. This is typical Hollywood...women are empowered and men are clueless and need us desperately. As a woman, I am weary of this pattern. But on the whole, Rio is one of our family's favorites. Love the visuals and the music as well.

Rio has a little bit of everything in it. Great visuals, good voice acting, and a good soundtrack. There's not much to knock in this movie. It's pretty solid in plot and direction. Probably one of the best animations over the last 6-7 years. It has a lot of well known voices and great animation. Well worth a purchase.
