If you played long enough the rewards and the fighting becomes great. the story is very good and involving. The enemies are some of the best AI and it never becomes easy. Keeps you trying to improve yourself and it pays big. The traps and solutions are really good and fun. There is more than one way to get out of trouble Weapons (Bow, Crossbow, swords, with very realistic fighting and easy learning. you also can have the ability of healing while running. The blocking, moving out of the enemy blows are great. The transportation is also great after a while of playing. This is a real RPG. The magic like: levitation, telekinesis, etc. is great, control of NPC s, you can play as a bandit, and two other profesions. And the graphics are very good. gg NP

    Challenging is right

Pros: At the start, you must know how to block and attack or you will die. You are not given potions at the start; you must find them throughout the junge on the island and they dont replenish all of your life. The battling is not that bad unless you are used to FABLE controls. Fighting is fun considering that this is the only game that I actually must parry in order to stay alive. Counter attacking is not an automatic skill, you must do it on your own, at the right time. The actions you make in the game determine what people think about you throughout the rest of it. That includes giving a bad answer to a question, stealing, and pulling out your weapon. Therefore you must listen to what is being said. Some plants you collect give you a permanent increase in Health...Keep an eye out for them Cons: You do not get skill points or attribute points from leveling up....You must find a trainer and pay them learning points and gold in order to gain an increase in your status. When you click on the map button, and try to look at your position by using your mouse, the screen moves in the backround. Becomes very annoying when you want to look at the map itself. Counter attacking can become very stressful because a lot of times, I have issues of making it counter and not do another fighting move. Story line is borderline ok for now but I am still adventuring through the island.

    An Excellent Game

Pros: Very Good Graphics, Weapons, Magic & Story Cons: Piranha Bytes understated the minimum specs again. In essence, RISEN is Piranha Bytes’ vision of what Gothic 4 would be. When Jowood Studios and Piranha Bytes “went their separate ways”, P.B. created RISEN. It is definitely in the spirit of the Gothic series and is, for the most part, very well done. They even make a reference or two about Gothic 3 that only an avid Gothic series player would get. It uses the same engine that G3 used. The learning curve is pretty easy. Controls are easily customizable. And of course, it’s very re-playable. I’ve played completely through 3 times already. I have a very stout gaming rig (Intel Quad Core, 4GB, GeForce 9800GT, full SATA, etc…), and still had a few areas with some lags. But that is easily overshadowed by the other great qualities of the game. I would definitely recommend this game.

    Oblivion's little brother

If you liked Oblivion you will like this. The graphics are really nice and the combat is the best part, you have to parry and/or block or you will die. You time your counterattacks after you watch your opponents attack strategy, he swings twice and back up, you swing right after his second attack and hit each time, but the AI adapts and changes it's attacks! Awesome, I looked for awhile to find something like oblivion. Potions, magic, leveling, explore ruins, it's got it all. I loved this game.

    Absolute Waste of my money

Perhaps I'm not the best person to review this game. All i know is that it was painfully awful. i thought i was into rpgs but this game didn't hold me attention at all. the combat system was horrible. one button to attack another to block (which didnt really work) and movement keys to evade. The graphics are poor for a game of its time, though i suspect thats because the game takes place in one expansive environment with no load screens. Basically...i installed the game tried it out, turned it off and, had un-installed the game and tossed it across the room within an hour. I have absolutely no motivation to ever try this game again. it was an absolute failure in my opinion...waste of money...
