Such a remake or reboot has a fate to be compared with the original. In that sense, I think this reboot is quite OK since it does not follow the original story as it is. "Total recall" followed the plot so much, even though its settings are different, that I can expect what would happen next, and it made the movie less exciting. But this "Robocop" was slightly different and did not make the audience guess what next. However, still it is compared with the original. The robocop movement, like the head turns first and then the body turns, was so trademark to see the robocop, but there is no such trademark to make its new robocop attractive. Overall, it is quite well-made entertaining movie if you do not expect more than an original sensation.

The absence of extreme violence is a plus and immediately makes this film more entertaining. If you prefer guts and gore: then this is not a movie you will like. If you prefer better acting while attempting to keep the "idea" of "Robocop" still working you will like it. The final ability of Alex to override the programming and demonstrate the human will over the mechanical at the end was well done. Overall a better movie that (while still needs a bit of brushing up before a thinking about a sequel) is still much more entertaining than the original

The difficulty of remakes is some people complain if a movie is too similar to the original, and then other people complain if the movie is too dissimilar. It is nearly impossible to please both masters. This remake took the latter approach. The director took the basic set-up of the original film and then took it in a different direction. The original Robocop is about a man inside a machine clawing to regain a semblance of humanity. The remake is about a man who slowly sees his humanity stripped away in the name of "convenience." I think the movie would have been well received if it was its own IP instead of having to stand in the shadow of the original.

Considering the original was a classic, it's hard to imagine the 2014 version pleasing most viewers. Still, you have to applaud the filmmakers' efforts to make a completely new film with just subtle nods to the original. This is a Robocop for this generation, not the 80s, and the result is a watchable, though not perfect, film. Some standard extras but would've loved to see a commentary and a more thorough look into why Kinnaman was picked for a role that had to have been attached to every action star in Hollywood. Video and audio are both outstanding. The exclusive packaging guarantees it will atleast look cooler than all your other blurays. Great-looking steelbook!

Im typically a fan of remakes. Even if I love the original movie a remake is based on I'll give the remake a chance typically. I am a big fan of the original Robocop and i'll be the first to say this movie doesn't surpass what the first Robocop film accomplished all those years ago. That movie still holds up well in entertainment value and Im not sure how well this one will in the future but theres no denying that this is a great effort to jump start the franchise for a new audience and in the end it is not a bad movie compared to your by the numbers action films nowadays. Its different enough that its fresh and its commendable for its efforts.

Like so many others I had trepidation going into the remake/re-imaging of Robocop. After all the original is a cult classic and the announcement of a toned down PG-13 rating for the newest version took a lot of wind out of the excitement sails. But at the end of the day the new Robocop is a decent slice of cinema. My suggestion: View it as a different story (not a remake) and there's enough changes made to allow it to stand on it's own two feet. Like many newer blu-rays the picture/sound quality is stellar. Give this new Robocop a chance. You might just be surprised. I enjoyed it enough to add it to my collection.

I am a big fan of the original 1987 Robocop. Admittedly, I went into the film with low expectations. Remakes are usually terrible. However, this one was actually very entertaining. The main reason for this is that it is not a retread of the original. Sure, the set up is the same for the most part, but, this movie deals with themes not explored in the original Robocop (and they are definitely themes worth exploring ). That makes this remake interesting enough to check out. This one isn't as good as the original and nowhere near as violent (this movie is PG-13 only), but that doesn't mean it can't be enjoyed.

I am a fan of the original Robocop, and what i loved about this movie was that they took the core story of the original, and made it a more character driven story. I understand that that is not what the original was all about, but had they tried making a film that copied the original, it would not have worked.. They got real actors, and top of the line effects and stunts and made a quality picture. What's more, is that as a father now, I can show this movie to my kids without worrying about them being disturbed (in reference to the brutal violence and language of the orginal).

Ok, for starters, the whole Samuel L. Jackson parts of the movie can be completely removed and replaced by more action and shootouts. That added a huge cheese factor, a completely unnecessary monologue that belongs in a low budget college level film project. It was refreshing seeing the modern update to the franchise with futuristic technology. You do run into the same villans and plot, but they have to stay true to the original move somehow. There's just something cool about robots with guns. Not a spectacular blockbuster by any means, but was still fun to watch overall.

I was skeptical about this movie from the start. "NOT MUH ROBOCOP!" I would yell. Still do, but after buying and watching the film based off of what a few friends said, I have to say I really enjoyed the film. Granted, I thought it got CGI heavy at the end, but I thought the look at Alex Murphy's life before and after becoming Robocop was very well handled, and the action overall was good. Really liked the acting, and I'm glad I took a chance on this. It looks beautiful overall and it's definitely worth watching, whether you were a fan of the original or not.

My husband is enjoying this classic movie from the late '80s. It brings back fun memories from that time.

Overall an entertaining action sci-fi movie! If you were a fan of the original you should enjoy this movie as long as your not expexting an exact remake. With some homage paid to classic Robocop series this is a new spin on old classic. This modern version of course boast superior imaging and computer graphics but also focuses a little more on the personal conflict of man and machine inside Alex Murphy with a lot more interaction with his wife and son. Overall I would say worth watching if you like this genre and were at all a fan of original.

I loved the original and the remake is one of the better of the long string of 80's remakes coming out lately. The story is much different than the original but the plot changes make sense for modern times. I am fairly confident that if you liked the original, you will find this to be a worthy successor. It is certainly better than either of the Robocop sequels.

I was cautious when I first heard about this. Robocop was one of my favorite movies. This remake is something that took the original and made its own voice. Is it as good as the original? no. But, it is really good. Though lacking the satire of the original, it creates its own commentary towards drone use, making it a product of this decade, where the original was a create commentary towards elements in the 80s. Yeah, I wish that it had the satire and humor, and over the top violence of the original, but it's still a great movie

Dead or alive, your coming with me! Whenever remakes are made nowadays, we all like to compare them to the originals. And 9 out of 10 times, the originals always win. I've come to realize that we all must stop trying to do that and just view remake's as it's own. The 2014 version of Robocop is a hell of a movie. The ensemble cast is very notable and the action was amazing. My advice, view this movie with an open mind and please don't compare to the original. As it's own, the movie was real fun to watch.

Not a bad movie at all, better than the original in some aspects, worse in others. Peter Weller had an almost camp aspect to his character in the original, Joel Kinnaman is more emotionless over all than Weller was, which is more what this remake is aiming for - ie. the removal of the human self, the replacement of a person with a machine. Special effects were quite good, better than the original, but that's to be expected with the passage of time! Haven't looked at any of the extras, so won't comment on those.

This refresh of RoboCop was the first installment of what may be a series of movies just like its predecessors. The basic concept of the movie is basically the same, but from what I noticed with a few movie remakes, story lines are being re-vamped to fit modern day lifestyles and twist and exploring to try something different from what people remember. Although, most remakes are unsuccessful, RoboCop will be a fairly successful franchise if the following sequels following this movie if done right.

As a big fan of the original I was excited to see it was being modernized and the remake didn't disappoint. The reviews were mixed but I found the change in story to focus more on the personal impact Alex Murphy and his family faced while fighting the corporate greed that created him to be compelling. This isn't the Robocop you grew up with, but it's a bold new vision with a more serious atmosphere than the silliness of the sequels. Approach it with an open mind and you might enjoy it as I did.
