Robocop in 4k is like watching for the first time. Just wow

Great upgrade to 4k!!! Older movie that I love to watch.

Classic 80s film re-issued for Blu Ray in 4k with an Atmos track. The picture is better than what I had before and sound is more like the cinema but given this is a dated film, it won’t be the quality of todays mixes and visuals and I knew that going in. I was really happy to get this because it has a nice set of extras and a choice of soundtracks and the musical score is wonderful. It was wonderful to see the Nancy Allen interview! The Atmos track is louder than the others and I liked that there was a DTS-HD Master audio 5.1 and 4.0 track. Based on my accessment I liked both the Atmos and the DTS Master tracks plus the 4.0 is more faithful to the original. Those expecting a modern re-mix will be disappointed as this is a re-mastering of a classic film, not a completely re-mixed film with the dynamic range and stereo imaging of today. Robocop was released in 70mm Dolby SR but I mostly remember seeing it in 35mm.

This set is advertised as Robocop, not Robocop: The Director’s Cut. It’s meant to include two versions of the film and specifically mentions a blu-ray for special features. It doesn’t include one. Best Buy does not acknowledge that they’re misleading customers with the ad and continues to sell it as well as an identical more expensive version, which I assume is the correct one if you want what is actually advertised. Only that version is sold out, so I guess customers who buy this one by mistake are out of luck. They just don’t care. Anyway, still giving it two stars for the film itself, which is one of the best.
