The movie is OK, for all the Robotech fans should check this out. The story line continues after the last episode of the original series where Scott Bernard left the earth after the Invids' left. You'll see some of the characters from the original series and be introduced to the new characters. A new race is revealed at the end of the movie. The movie is mainly produced by a Korean animation company called Dr. Movie, they chose to do a 2D character combined with 3D mecha style which is pretty popular these days. The quality of their design, maybe due to the budget of the movie, is NOT really cutting edge as advertised. If you ever saw the Macross Zero or other lastest GONZO production, you'll be disappointed. The music is all right, but has too many symphony style, very much assembles star wars. The good part on the movie is that it's very action packed, fast pace. There's just so many things going on, that you'll hold your breathe from the very first minute to the very end. The DVD is good quality production, but has Funimation ads at the beginning NOT related to the movie which I find pretty annoying. The video transfer is very clean due to pure digital production. The DD5.1 sound track is good, lots of surround effects, and deep bass on explosions, it pretty much has the same quality as the ones on the original series remastered edition. The extras are long, shows how the movie was produced, most of the cast&crew members talk about the production, etc. Overall, it's a good start for HG to come back and bring more Robotech. I hope they have a bigger budget and better 3D modeling/rendering on the sequeal. And I'm looking forward to see the live action movie from WB.
