I was so excited to find this on Blu-Ray. I have this on VHS and couldn't find this on DVD anywhere but when I did I bought it right away. Still a great family film. I'm not disappointed in this purchase at all. Brought back a lot of 90s memories. AWESOME MOVIE!!!

Maybe not as well know as other Don Bluth films, but just as good in my opinion as the others. Fun cast and interesting story.

    Pure unadulterated nostalgia

Let's get this out of the way: Rock-A-Doodle can't compete with the quality of animation you're getting these days from films like The Incredibles 2, Moana, Coco, or even earlier animated fare like Wall-E and Finding Nemo. Though good for its day, the film (from an aesthetic standpoint) simply doesn't hold up. But I adored this movie as I child. I wasn't even in grade school when Rock-A-Doodle was released, so I wouldn't disagree that this film made such an impression on me because of how young I was when I started watching it. From the characters to the story to the very catchy songs, I was nearly as obsessed with Rock-A-Doodle as I was with The Wizard of Oz. In fact, if you add Mary Poppins to the mix, those three films comprise at least 95 percent of my childhood movie-watching experiences. So what does this Rock-A-Doodle Blu-ray have to offer in an era when the next example of impeccable computer animation is never more than a couple months away at your local multiplex? Well, if you watched this movie as a child like I did, watching it with YOUR child will give you feelings of such intense, warm-and-fuzzy nostalgia that you just don't get from Hotel Transylvania 3 or The Boss Baby. Especially if your kids are younger -- I'm talking second grade or below -- the bright, cheerful overall story that still has some complexity and moments of darkness will certainly hold their attentions and make a lasting impression. Our little one was just under age 7 when we watching this with him by renting it on Vudu. He loved it! And his having asked us to rent it again on multiple occasions is what led us to buy the Blu-ray. You might be wondering why such a glowing review of Chanticleer's tale wouldn't warrant 5 stars instead of 4. It's actually a reflection more of the Blu-ray itself than the film. Of course, I'm not deluding myself about the numerous plot holes and incongruous story elements in the film. It's definitely not perfect in terms of the plot, particularly as family-oriented films have really been raising the bar and offering more nuanced storytelling. But while the actual film looks better than ever on Blu-ray, it just doesn't sound right. The audio in the vast majority of the film sounds warped. Maybe it's just my copy, but I've read other reviews on other sites that mention the same thing. And worst of all, this is a problem that I feel should've been detected before the Blu-ray was produced and distributed. There's really no excusing such a significant flaw. But hopefully it'll get fixed in a later release; perhaps in an upcoming 4K Blu-ray? TL;DR: If you have fond memories of watching Rock-A-Doodle as a child, the current line of animated films won't wrap you in a warm, fuzzy nostalgia blanket like Rock-A-Doodle. Sure, it's not a perfect movie, especially by modern standards, but the charm of revisiting the farm with Chanticleer, Goldie, Edmond, the Duke, and Patou, not to mention being able to share this precious movie-watching experience with your own children, is truly a memory to cherish. As Chanticleer says, "Sun do shine."
