Bought this in hopes my younger brother would pick the bass back up. I like the lessons they have, and I think it's cool how the songs and lessons change difficulties in the middle based on your performance. However, it kinda keeps you from being able to get a good feel for the songs. The graphics make it kinda hard to know when to hit each note (Rockband and Guitar Hero seemed easier to me). The tones are great, though, and it's always fun to play actual stuff instead of hitting buttons along with the real music. I'd recommend it.

This is a great experience for the price. Not the greatest song list from what I have seen so far, but it isn't to bad. Probably not for someone with no music ability at all. But those people probably aren't purchasing the game anyways. It does take musical skill. Though I am sure with dedication a lot of people could get the hang of it.

Truly works as advertised. You tend to have to tune your guitar a lot, but it's great!

Mostly fun, but it doesn't make it easy to learn. It just lets you learn without a teacher. My 11-year-old got frustrated with it and stopped playing. My 15 year-old did better because he already had exposure to guitar.

This is a really well put-together game that greatly deserves an online component. I'm an experienced bassist with very little experience on guitar, so naturally I wanted to learn more on guitar. And I did. I was surprised how much easier it made it to learn songs from scratch. It teaches you techniques through videos and mini-games, and has tools to help you through sections of songs that you're having trouble with. You can slow down the song, learn techniques associated with the song, and replay certain sections of the song until you're able to master it. This is a truly great game, but it could be improved upon. Also want to note, the included real-tone cable can and probably will short out eventually. Mine began to about two weeks into use, but it's still usable. Just gotta be careful with it. Hopefully there will be a Rocksmith 2 coming up soon. If there is, I'm certainly buying it.

For anyone who wants to learn guitar/bass

This game is great. The unique thing about this game is that you use a REAL guitar to play it, not some plastic multi-colored controller like Guitar Hero or Rock Band. This is the real deal! The game comes with a proprietary USB cord that plugs into your console while the other end has a jack for plugging into your guitar. It has a list of included songs that are pretty good. You can download others for a fee. As you start, the game gives you a setlist to play and introduces you to different techniques you should learn to play these songs. The gameplay looks a lot like Rock Band with the colored notes coming toward you on a fret board. However this time, the colors represent the different strings and the fret board is broken up into numbers. As you play, the game recognizes your improvement and adds new notes as you do better. So you're not picking a difficulty level at which to play; the notes are added in as the game feels you can handle them. The game also includes mini-games that increase your playing techniques. I have had a bass guitar for about 7 years and never learned to play it until now This version of Rocksmith has support for both guitar and bass guitar. In fact, my son has the game for his X-Box. He brought his cord over and we played guitar and bass together at the same time. The only problem is that the game takes a while to load/save after finishing a song or changing modes. This seems to be inherent with the PS3 version, as my son's loads right away on the X-Box. I highly recommend this game to anyone who wants to really play guitar/bass.

For everyone that ever wanted to be a rockstar!

A little bit of background: I have always wanted to play guitar. I got my first one at age 13, didn't learn to play...second guitar at age 34, got to where I could strum through a couple of songs. Guitar went in the closet and I forgot all the chords, so I sold it...and then I saw Rocksmith, and knew I had to get it! I opted to buy a guitar separately rather than getting the package because I found a much nicer guitar that kept me within the price range of the Rocksmith package. I nabbed Rocksmith for PS3 on a great sale from Best Buy. My first impression after playing it for two pretty long sessions is that it is awesome! The storyline keeps it very interesting. The interface works flawlessly for me with no lags in the sound or feedback. It adjusts accurately and quickly to how well I am executing the notes, in fact, I can see notes comming down the way that end up disappearing before they are to be played because I've started missing notes. It's very cool! The songs are catchy, and the "lessons" are designed well and progress well, but you can replay venues as many times as you want to. I like the note percentage feedback as well as the number of notes in a row feedback. I was actually surprised at how many great features there are, like the Techniques section where you can practice different techniques before playing them in a venue. Rocksmith is definitely not easy but it will keep me coming back
