The Rog ally is an amazing gaming device. The Rog X is even better. Everything is upgraded except for the screen, that’s the same. The audio, buttons, ram, battery, internal storage, and ergonomics are better. The only thing I don’t like are the back m1 and m2 buttons. I prefer the original ally m1 and m2 buttons more but over all it’s a great portable gaming pc. it’s probably the best one on the market. If you already have an ally I don’t think it’s worth it to upgrade unless you just have money to spend like that, but If you don’t have one definitely pick this one up.

I love my new Asus Rog Ally X. This device is comfortable to hold and is very versatile in gaming software. I can use Microsoft, Steam, other other sites, like EPIC, Rockstar, etc. The 1TB hard drive allows for me to have plenty of storage and I added a 512GB micro SD card for other files I would like access to. The 24GB ram allows fast response times. The downside is windows can be glitchy from time to time, so make sure to back up your games. I would have given five stars if I didn't have to reset it twice within the first month of using it, but all is better now.

Im fortunate enough to have this and a Steam Deck oled. I love my Deck and wouldn't trade it for the world. But this caught me off guard with how great the graphics are. You dont need an OLED screen when you have 120 fps and 24 gig ram. Its well worth it. Here are two tips. Youtube how to put it into hibernation mode instead of sleep. Its easy. Also, Youtube how to add a drive for the SD card, it took a minute to figure out. You then have to go into steam, exit big picture mode and and go into settings and add the SD card there as well. After these two things, it is literally a portable handheld gaming PC. Have fun.

Great device for handheld gaming and travel, but a little bulky, expensive, and wished there was more storage. It can certainly handle AAA games and being used as a home desktop, but I use it more for travel as I still have a custom built pc. I also, love that it does not limit me to a certain gaming platform and the Armory crate supports plenty of them.

Finally jumped on the hand held gaming trend. Coming from switch, switch lite and also a Logitech G-cloud I wanted something with a little more to offer. Gaming is fantastic on the Ally X. Graphics and FPS is right up there with my Xbox SX or PS5. Haven’t had any serious issues besides turning it off to hibernate while taking breaks in between gaming and loading back up the Ally X, it acts a little wonky. Sometimes a quick reset will fix it, sometimes it works fine with whatever game I was playing at the time. The only downsides or minimal complaints I have are the desktop mode is a bit messy and feels like the windows OS isn’t designed for touchscreen functionality. Typing anything on the virtual keyboard is a chore. Windows has way too much bloat ware they try to sell or make me subscribe too as if this unit is a desktop computer or laptop. I just wanna game on it not write a term paper. Overall I enjoy how impressive gaming on the ally X is. Haven’t fired up my Xbox or PS5 or gaming laptop since buying this. Definitely recommend for anyone who wants a pick up and go type game console. With the market flooded with various models, I feel this the best move for bang for the buck.

So where to start on this. I guess we will go with performance. Keeping in mind that this is not some powerful pc, but a handheld console that is running windows with a mobile chip, it’s pretty good. I’ve been able to get smaller games like potion craft, early final fantasy games, and others at 100 frames+. I was able to get games like stray at 45-60 frames (depending on lighting by and particles) and ratchet and clank: rift apart at 35-45 frames. (This is at medium settings as well) all in all, playable and not too terrible. Great for non AAA games. On top of this, because it runs windows, you can have access to all of your other game library’s in one spot using armory crate (comes “pre installed” to the console) works well enough and in most cases better than if you were running it on just a desktop. Next, let’s talk ergonomics. The console is comfortable. I can’t argue that the joysticks feel good to use and the buttons have a nice resistance to them. Even the touch screen was bearable. The only think I would want to have added would be a touch pad for mouse input. Not a necessity I know, but would be a good quality of life feature for the next version *cough* Aside from the normal steam, epic, gog, and Xbox games; this console does very well emulating PlayStation games using PPSSPP and Nintendo games as well. Fantastic emulator console. The only thing I’ve been on the fence about has been cost. 800$, to be fair, isn’t a bad cost and is fair for what you are getting with current tech. But these are the beginning of these consoles and there will be better for better cost at some point. If you don’t have a computer, sure. Get it. It’s great. But for 800? I have a hard time justifying the cost currently if you already have a pc to play these on. As far as Best Buy is concerned however….. I got my ally from the store and there was a dented corner of the box …. Granted, this was just the box. The console was fine. But, being the nerd I am, I would have loved for the box to be UNDAMAGED when I picked it up. Kinda hard to want to keep the box on a shelf to show off when the corner is knocked in All in all though, it is a good console and you will have fun with the thing. See yall online!

The rog ally x is probably the best financial decision i’ve ever made it runs games smoothly last from anywhere to about 2-8 hours depending on the games you play and on the wattage type you use but overall it runs fantastic and plays games phenomenally

The device works phenomenal. Absolutely love it. I truly enjoy all the game play available for this device. And the best part is its mobile. I dont even use any consoles anymore. I onlty play my asus rog ally x.

So i have steamdeck and i want to try this product to see for myself. So after almost a month of using it, i can say that its more powerful compare to steamdeck. But playing on its native resolution (full HD) the fps i get is kind of similar to steamdeck. A little better maybe. I always wanted to play on native resolution because i looks so much better. I capped my framerate to 60 fps depends on the game to conserve battery and to run cooler. While the handle, and the grips and the overall ergonomics i can say that steamdeck is still better. I like the rog ally x because i can play my epic, battlenet and other game platforms games without a hassle. So windows os is a downside and also an upside. My goto when i am going out is still my steamdeck because of ease to play. Its like a nintendo switch. So i think, overall experience based on the good and the bad. The rog ally x is evenly matched to my steamdeck. Recommended.

The Ally X checks a lot of boxes and misses a few as well. I've had the Ally X for a good amount of time now and here are my pros and cons - Pros: Big enough battery to keep you gaming for a good stretch of time even in demanding games like Helldivers 2. Cooling system is excellent and the device does not warm up too much in hand even while plugged in and gaming at 30W. Flexibility - this can connect to a compatible Thunderbolt 4 dock supporting multiple monitors for your typical office workload then when your work is done just unplug and game on. Cons: Size - if you have larger hands this device will not be great for you, but it is doable. This is more of a small-medium size hand device in my opinion. Analog sticks are terrible for shooters. You can install an aftermarket set for cheap without being a hardware expert though. Much more expensive than the original Ally with the Z1 Extreme with basically the same in game performance - the price difference may not be worth it depending on your needs. If you were like me and just wanted to see what was up in the world of PC handhelds while already having a main gaming rig, I highly recommend getting this refurbished from BB to save some of your hard-earned money. Overall I'm happy with my Ally X.

Just got the ROG Ally X and lemme tell you—it’s like a gaming PC had a baby with a Nintendo Switch and raised it on Monster Energy. Ran all my games like a dream and didn’t even overheat once. 10/10, my social life is officially canceled.

I love this handheld. Having a powerful desktop had me worried that a portable handheld wouldn’t be able to hold up when playing my games, but I was wrong. This device is phenomenal to have for trips and such where I can’t use my desktop.

Die hard Valve fanboy, but I must admit the ROG ally X is way ahead of the competition. I loved my steam deck since i received it a year ago but everything called out to me from the X, EVERYTHING. Specially the bigger battery.....steam deck owners, you know exactly what im talking about. Sell it and get something better. GFX, BATTERY, ERGONOMICS, DISPLAY ARE WORTH THE BUY.

The good: It's fast for a handheld, great performance and market leader in the segment for sure. It run windows which offers at least the ability to attempt to play some games that are simply not available on the steamdeck - aka Forza Motorsports. Great NVMe performance / watt - and optional ability to swap it if you want to get even better nvme drive. Overall I liked this device but I only bought it to play 1 game mainly and it can't... Out of a last ditch effort I ran the cloud restore, which worked amazing - love how easy it is to deploy a fresh OS on this as well. Great BIOS and feature rich device. The Bad: I bought this because in store demo of the orignial Ally showed it playing Forza Horizon 5 - which worked awesome and I mainly play Forza Motorsport on my PC so grabbed this to add some racing in a more casual setting - but unfortunately, as powerful as the device is, it's not enough for Forza Motorsport. I don't think this is a Ally X specific issue as it is a 780M/AMD driver problem - which I get. So I will be returning as was main use case to replace my Steamdeck. Hopefully the nVidia new handheld will be powerful enough, fingers crossed! The Ugly: Arrived brand new with seal cut - seems to have been tampered with before I ever got it in the mail - needs better quality control perhaps? Left trigger also stopped working, the spring mechanism seems to be an issue.

Fantastic handheld performance with the Z1 Extreme CPU Much faster and better build quality than any model steam-deck. I would choose this handheld over all other 2024 alternatives. The upgraded Battery life is great for long car/train rides on the go!

Great little handheld pc, super powerful. Great graphics and performance capabilities. Been using with an external gpu on a 4k monitor getting 100+ fps in cod with great performance using as a secondary gaming rig. Performs beyond expectations.

Great screen, great battery life, I think this device would be even better if the SO were better optimize to handheld form factor.. but hey, this isn't on ASUS .. But, ASUS should at least include a case... It's $799. C'mon Asus

The ally x plays black ops 6 and all AAA titles I throw at it! This handheld is a beast and if I didn’t have a gaming pc but owned this tossing a dock and a keyboard and mouse together you have a reliable and quality rig on the go! Battery is also very strong compared to others I have tried

It still goes as strong as when I first got it even after all this time.
