Customers value the 3 Streaming Player's ease of use, smooth streaming capabilities, and intuitive remote control. Many appreciate the voice search function and the device's compact size. While some users noted shorter battery life and occasional heat generation, the positive feedback on performance and picture quality outweighs these minor drawbacks.

A couple of years ago I bought a smart bluray player that I was hoping would serve as a streaming device.
unfortunately, it was awful for streaming and I finally bought a Roku 3. I wish I would have bought the Roku ages ago. Its easy to hook up and use and streams smoothly. I bought the Roku 3 because it had a headphone jack on the remote control. I use this feature quite a bit, as I can watch tv and listen through the
headphones if my fiancé wants to read or not be disturbed by the tv.

This is my 6th Roku. Previously I have used the Roku 2 and loved them. I can't believe they were able to improve on the previous model. The Roku 3 is amazing. Very fast and as always easy to use remote that my wife absolutely loves. I just bought three more Roku 3's for a friend of my wife's and installed them in her new home. She absolutely loves the Roku and has since got rid of her over priced cable provider and simply streams all of her television and uses an antenna for local channels. Something I have been doing for about 3 years now. /good bye cable, hello Roku and streaming television with ease.

Way better than my old smart DVD Player

I got this to replace an old slow Smart DVD player. It is WAY better: faster, better Netflix interface, Amazon Prime interface, and the picture is great! I also prefer a wired network interface, and the Roku 3 provides this feature too. It would be nice if a recording app could be added to record streamed videos to an external drive. This device could be used to eliminate cable or satellite TV if there were more free or low cost channels.

Fast setup. Small and clean and simple to use the remote. I bought a second 2 weeks after buying the first. the direct Netflix button on the remote is great but should be able to program them to customize certain apps.

I had been streaming through my son's Xbox which was slow to connect and stream. I replaced with a Roku 3 and am very pleased.
Pros:
*Almost instantly connects and begins streaming. (My internet service is 15 Mbps) It might be different if your internet is slower.
*The voice search works pretty well although I have found we don't use it that much.
*It is very small so it takes up a small area near the TV.
*It has two things you have to plug in: the power cord and the HDMI cord, not all the input output stuff that confuses me!
*The remote seems very responsive.
Cons:
*I really didn't like that to set up the Roku 3 I had to give a credit card number during set up. I already have a Netflix account & don't plan to buy anything through another service or subscribe to other channels offered on the Roku 3. I tried to find a way around giving that info, but couldn't. Maybe there is a way I don't know about. I REALLY dislike that....A LOT!
*I think it is cheap that they do not include an HDMI cable at this price point. At least they make it clear on the box it doesn't come with one, but I would feel I got more for my money if it had included that. I borrowed the one that was already in the Xbox.
I am still giving 5 stars in spite of the two cons I have because they do not have anything to do with how the product functions, but instead are issue with the company's policies. The product functions wonderfully. I have had it for almost 2 months and use it almost daily.

Best Steaming Media Player Ever!

I have tried several kinds of media player (AppleTV, FireTV, Netgear, Roku2, etc) This version of the Roku is the best by far. I am an all Apple house so it is hard to say it but AppleTV stinks compared to the Roku3. It streams all my media without any lag time or quality degradation. I can plug a hard drive in it when we are on vacation and watch our shows in the hotel room without paying for high speed internet. It is so easy my 5 year old can use it. I haven't used it for gaming, it seems a little silly to me, but my kids will probably try it one day. Overall an outstanding product.

Best Streaming Device Out There

I was skeptical when Apple came out with the Apple TV, but eventually purchased the Apple TV2. Soon after, I just couldn't justify the purchase. It didn't let you do any great things unless you paid for subscription services and then used the pre-selected apps that Apple determined you needed. Don't even get me started on the aluminum remotes (I had to purchase several replacements) that kept breaking. I soon found myself buying the Plex app for my iPhone and using the server app for my Mac and just using Airplay to send it to the TV. Then one Xmas my wife had purchased a Roku 3 for her brother but never sent it to him. I eventually just opened it up and plugged it in to my TV. What a difference! The Roku already had a Plex app on it, a remote that is flawless, and a user interface that is better to look at and customizable because it lets you select which apps to use so you can get rid of the ones that cost money. I do use the Netflix quite often but it is reasonable on price. This newer Roku 3 now comes with a Netflix button right on the remote so there are less buttons to press to get right to why you bought the Roku in the first place. The headphone jack is a Godsend since now that my kids have figured out how to use the thing, I make them plug their headphones into the headphone jack that is ON THE REMOTE! (GENIUS!!!) Now I can kick back and listen to tunes while they binge watch Star Wars Clone Wars without ever witnessing any snake oil commercials! My technology challenged parents can even operate this thing with no trouble so that's a plus as well. The low cost is also a plus. Just get it, use the Plex app and hook up an external drive to your network that has all of your movies and you will be in heaven!

I had the previous version of the Roku 3 and this updated version has several pros: The buttons for selecting Hulu, Netflix, and Amazon Prime directly on the remote. The improved headphone earbuds. I even like the gloss black finish on the box. I tested Roku for about 6 months before I cut off my satellite service. Saving over one hundred bucks a month and don't miss my satellite for one minute. I have a direct internet connection via ethernet but tested the wireless with zero issues. So many options for streaming content. I highly recommend this product and am a big fan of Roku

Set up for the Roku 3 was not difficult. Works well, has more channels than I will ever use. I like that the Roku 3 comes with headphones which allows for use without bothering anyone else.

Bought one of these for our tv that is not a smart tv. We loved it so much that we have since bought two others as gifts. Great for finding older shows, movies, etc. Our current television works well, but we just wanted it to do what the newer smart television do. This does the trick and is so easy to use. Everyone in the family enjoys using it.

I love this unit. Easy setup and works great with my new 4K TV. The only thing that disappointed me was that they now just came out with ROKU 4 which is for the 4K TV. I will likely buy one. The amount of programming and features on this unit is great. I still have not made it through all of the available programming. The main reason I bought it was to stream Beach Body excercise programs, however there is so much available features and option I think I will downgrade my cable and save some money.

My wife and I were on the fence about getting a new television or just making the one in our bedroom a smart tv by purchasing this. This option is much cheaper and work great! Only watch about a few hours a week in bedroom as it is, and this work excellent! voice search works great and moves fluidly through screens! love the remote headphone jack to still enjoy programs after wife falls asleep. Only complaint would be that Roku Media Player only recognizes very few media types for playback.

Like so many others, the time came for me to cut the cord, as my cable bill was simply ridiculous. I chose the Roku after checking out the reviews for the alternatives, and I'm very satisfied. The setup was relatively simple, and the performance has been above average. The movie and TV choices are more than adequate for me, as there's plenty to offer between the free and premium offerings.
My only caveat would be that sometimes the channel on which I'm watching will sometimes lag to buffering, but I'm assuming that's more of an issue with my wifi than anthing else. So, make sure you have adequate speed on your internet.

After being frustrated with paying high cable bills and commercials I needed another alternative. This fits the bill. I mostly use Netflix and Plex to watch most of my shows. You do have to subscribe to some channels but its better than paying for cable. I have my ROKU hardwired instead of wifi. Hardwire will always work better than wifi. The ability to plug headphones into the remote and not disturb others is a great feature and one of the reasons why I choose to purchase the Roku 3.

We recently decided to "cut the cable", and just stream our entertainment. We have a small HTPC, but it is awkward to use, even with a wireless keyboard and mouse. We were also using a 4-year-old Roku XD, but when I looked at the specs and interface for the Roku 3, I decided to make the switch.
Glad I did! This box is much faster and smoother, and makes it easy to stream from Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, and CBS. Highly recommend the Roku 3 if you want the best streaming media experience.

I love this thing! The install and set up was waste enough and then I was ready to enjoy how easy it was to stream hulu and Netflix. It occasionally disconnects from my network even though it sitting less 12" from the wireless router. I still love this thing I have and use on a consitant basis smart tv's dad's and other streaming devices but this one is by far the easiest to navigate and most responsive. The voice search is awesome as well as watching with the headphones!

It has more apps the Apple TV. It does both Apple and Amazon based apps. It also includes Sling TV, the best of cable without cable TV. We've had a few clitches with the device but Roku's technical support is great. It was a little difficult to setup but again Roku's technical support was easily accessible and guide us through the process. The head phones that attached to remote is a nice feature. You would only would need the Roku 4 if you think you'll be buying a 4K TV.
