Excellent film—Pristine 4K clarity by Kino Lorber!

Owned for 1 month when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.This has to be one of the cleanest, sharpest 4Ks of a 90s film that I’ve ever seen. And the audio was stellar! Even though it’s just 5.1 surround sound track (vs something like DTS: X or Dolby Atmos), it was just so vibrant and solid!! An absolutely powerful, well-balanced mix. The film itself is great as well, of course! I mean, you can’t go wrong with Robert DeNiro and Jean Reno! And there’s an unbelievably good car chase in this film—which that alone is worth the price of admission, in my opinion! But in closing, to reiterate: I was truly just floored by the quality of this disc, 100%. Can’t recommend it enough! Do yourself a favor and get this disc!

Ronin gets a dynamite new transfer for Kino's 4K

But if you're not familiar with RONIN or you are on the fence about buying this movie again, first let me say that this new 4K release from Kino has a new transfer and the film really benefits from the visual upgrade. On a very simple level, if you're a fan of Robert De Niro, this was the next movie he made after his tour-de-force work with Al Pacino in HEAT. This is vintage De Niro and he is part of a great ensemble cast directed by one of the legendary Hollywood directors, John Frankenheimer, responsible for films like THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE, THE TRAIN, SEVEN DAYS IN MAY and BLACK SUNDAY among others. He knew a thing or two about action and suspense and appreciated the skills of a good actor. RONIN has not one but two of the best car chases you've ever seen. Trust me. Also included in the special features is a commentary track with the director, which is basically like going to film school. Highly recommended.
