This is a great movie if you are a Stephen King fan. I have never read the book which inspired King's screenplay, so I can't say how closely it follows the book. In my opinion this story is definitely in Stephen King's wheelhouse. It's entertaining and creepy in a way that only Stephen King can do it.

    Stephen King's best mini series!

This is my wife and I's favorite Stephen King mini series. We love Stephen King and we have almost all of his books, movies, and mini series. Over the last 10 years or so, he's been on this mini series kick. Some of them were good, (like this one, Nightmares and Dreamscapes, Tommyknockers, etc.), and some of them have not been good, (namely Kingdom Hospital.) I don't know why he does all these mini series'. They're not nearly as good as his movies and most of them are too long and don't have very good special effects or the best acting. However, Rose Red is one of his best, in my opinion. I gave it 5 stars, not in comparison to his movies, but to all his other mini series'. (In comparison to his films, I'd probably give it 4 stars.) Another reason my wife and I loved this movie was because it was loosely based off of The Haunting of Hill House and the real Winchester house in California, which is really haunted. (Google Winchester mystery house.) Just like the movie The Shining was based off of the Stanley Hotel, which really is haunted also. (Google Stanley Hotel.) For my wife and I, it makes for a better ghost story when there's some truth behind it. If you watch it from that perspective, I think you'll enjoy this movie. I highly recommend it! Also, you may want to check out The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer, the prequel to Rose Red. (Stephen King is the ex. producer.)

This might be the best Stephen King film

As a die-hard Stephen King fan, I've seen everything he's ever done and this is by far one of the best ! The man just has a way of taking even the most sacred of things like the safety you feel in your own home and turning it against you! You won't want to walk to the bathroom in the middle of the night in the dark ever again after watching this! Rose Red is one of those movies that stays with you long after it's over. Don't let the length of the movie (almost 6 hrs.) turn you off to watching it. It's well worth the time to sit down and watch this brilliant masterpiece. The cast was wonderfully chosen. From Nancy Travis who plays Dr.Joyce Reardon. The woman who becomes fasinated with a haunted mansion called Rose Red to the point of risking other peoples lives to prove to her boss and collegues that Rose Red truly is haunted. To Annie Wheaton played by Kimberly J. Brown who has the power to waken Rose Red from a deep sleep by using her mind to do. If your a Stephen King fan than you won't want to miss this, and for the rest of you who aren't, well give the movie a try anyway. You won't be disappointed.

This was one of Stephen King's better mini series'. I like it because the plot is based off of a real house, the Winchester mystery house. I thought this was put together well. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Some other good Stephen King mini series' are Nightmares and Dreamscapes, and Tommyknockers.

This is not a good movie. I bought it cheap, but still feel as though this movie is more like one you would watch on tv half asleep, when nothing else is on.

Was drawn to it because of the plot line and "Stephen King", and the price - it was cheap. But I guess you get what you pay for. The movie itself is painfully slow, with really bad acting and bad cinematography. Would NEVER recommend. I haven't even gotten through the whole thing - it was just... that bad.
