I really messed up the Conair that I used to use by filling reservoir tank with tap water. It was an incredible handheld steamer that should have lasted but my water was too hard for it. Descaling with vinegar couldn't do much for it. In hindsight I should've used distilled water. However, I replaced the Conair extreme boost with the Rowenta Pure Force 1875W and I've been using distilled water only but Rowenta urges not to use only distilled water but to mix a 50% tap and distilled water to the tank because it's made to steam out tap water. I'm not taking that chance with my calcium hard water that destroyed a Conair, I will continue to use distilled water and every so often run a 50% distilled water and vinegar mixture through the internal workings. So far, the Rowenta Pure force kicks out just as much or even more steam than the Conair exteme steamer. Larger soleplate that seems really large with the double-sided microfiber and lint remover attachment. It's larger surface area is better for pressing/ironing. The booster setting is awesome since it boosts steam production by 5X( my estimate) and is excellent to steam flatten blazers/sports coats. Rowenta Pure Force is bulky but light enough to steam individual shirts, shorts, pants, and jackets without fatigue. When full, the reservoir lasts approx. 8-9 minutes...completely fine. Who would want to hold this steamer until wrist fatigues. I've used on only six items of clothes so far and don't have any negative things to mention.
