"Working Man" is a classic, must have!

The first Rush LP includes "Working Man" which is required listening for any hard rock fan. The other seven songs also feature the young Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee stretching their musical legs in the power trio format. The songwriting is pretty basic on the first LP but the energy is undeniable. The final track: "Working Man" is the home run here. Some would say it is the finest track Rush has ever created. For me, I never get tired of hearing it, even after all these years. So all you young folks out there give this a listen and imagine you are a young person in 1974 and this new song comes on the FM radio. It's "Working Man" and Canada has answered the hard rock challenge started by Cream, Black Sabbath and The Jimi Hendrix Experience. The legend of Rush begins here!

Although it may pale in comparison to some of Rush's other works, their debut album is still worth a listen. Peart's absence is noticeable in the lyrics but it's still a good listen and shows how far the band has come from their origins. If you wish to introduce someone to Rush, this album isn't a bad introduction as it is not too complex to go over some people's heads.

I own the vinyl which I bought 40 years ago; haven't owned a working turntable in quite some time, so when I saw this in a bargain bin, I snatched it up; remastered sound is very good!

Classic Rush. Pre-Neil Peart when Geddy & Alex were starting to Gel. Grooves to get you through your day.

Not the perfect album to purchase if your just getting into Rush, but a great straight ahead "rock" album. Recommend if you like, IMO, Black Sabbath, stoner rock, etc.

Great Under-rated First Album By Rush!

Here's the 1974 first album by Rush, remastered and re-issued, to feature the original official band lineup, featuring The late great, under-rated John Rutsey on drums! They, as a band were a tight trio even pre-Neil Peart. My favorite tracks are "Before & After", and, "Working Man". It's a downright shame, that John wasn't credited as, or for anything with the band, during their induction to the rock n' roll hall of fame. He had to officially leave the band after this album, due to illness complications of Diabetes. John Rutsey's work was great here, as well as Geddy, and Alex! A "must hear to appreciate", for the true Rush fan....

    Where it all began

The first Rush album is a unique listen. The debut is the only one without legendary drummer Neil Peart and it shows if you are already familiar with the band. There is no progressive rock to be found. It's straight ahead, 1970's hard rock with a heavy Zeppelin influence. No Peart written lyrics also means Geddy Lee singing about girls most of the time, which is odd to hear. Nonetheless, the album is a fun listen. Working Man is probably the most famous song off this release.

Rush sounds more like a Led Zeppelin rip off than prog masters here. Still establishing their sound with an alright album.

This was the first release by Rush, and the only one with the original drummer. While the production quality was typical-for-the-time flat and dry, their fomenting genius was peeking out, and it does include WORKING MAN, their first anthem. A must for all RUSH fans.
