  • A darker, bloodier Saiyuki story but Excellent!

    This is a darker, bloodier, and more serious story than the other Saiyuki series. It tells the story of the four main characters prior to the 1st Saiyuki series, when their previous incarnations live in Heaven. Konzen (reincarnated as Sanzo in the main series), Tenpou (Hakkai), Kenren (Gojyo) and a very young Goku are caught up in a conspiracy and trouble in Heaven and seek to escape to the Lower World. As they do, it becomes clear who is the real villain and they learn the extent of his treachery. I really enjoyed seeing the characters in this incarnation. You also learn more about Nataku. It is only 3 episodes (90 minutes) long so it is a relatively expensive DVD. It's a tragic story but it's SO good! I'm glad I bought it and watched it, and it's going with my other Saiyuki DVDs. Excuse me while I go cry some more now, then maybe go re-watch the 1st series.
