Warning! Do not buy this unit at any price.
We were very excited when we first purchased this convection microwave combo just before Thanksgiving 2014, however the controls for the first unit were defective, after 1 1/2 month of troubles we replaced the first one with another one (January 2015) and almost immediately the second unit has also shown the same problems.
We intend to return and buy a different brand.
Problems we have:
Control pad buttons sometimes fail to sense you are pushing them, this pad is a glass panel type. We have a GE Profile stove with the same kind of buttons and it has worked flawlessly for over 10-years, there is nothing to physically push down so we do not know why the buttons on the Samsung unit does not work, the only solution we have found is to give up, go away and try again later.
Turntable on-off status randomly activates or the work surface lights randomly turn or off, same with the vent fan. Sometime does this on its own, but mostly when you are pressing buttons to do something else
(The turntable on-off, fan and light are their own buttons so pressing something like MW cook should not activate them)
Sometimes the wrong menus pop up (not correct for the button you pressed) for example set clock sequence might start when you are pressing the start cooking button.
The strangeness goes on and on.
Both units have exactly the same problems - each was purchased from different stores so this appears to be a general quality issue with Samsung. Customer service claims not to have heard of control panel issues before, yeah right!
Check the web, many other buyers report the same problems.

The control board had to be replaced multiple times on our unit. The microwave was eventually replaced with a different model (which took a long time to complete).
The microwave would randomly turn on. I'm not just talking about the fan that automatically turns on from time to time, I'm talking about the actual microwave.

This was a total waste of money. The repair for this was 350$ after only 2 yrs. I would not purchase this one again. It started acting strange, the start button would not work and 3 months later the door wouldn't close. So I called repair and it was 350$

My contractor said it needed 20 amp service. He installed it, it did not fix problem. By the time he code install the 20 Amp service 30 days had passed and the store said I could not return it. Now I have a brand new none prong system. This is BS!

Best Microwave Ever on Halloween

If your favorite movie is the Ghostbusters or you reminiscent of days past telling ghost stories by a campfire, then this microwave is for you. I'm pretty certain Samsung's microwave manufacturing department was built on an old Indian burial ground. Simply put, the microwave is possessed. At random, this friendly spirit would like to turn on the LED light below it. Which is great if you want to get in fight after fight with your spouse arguing about who left the light on again. Just when you realize your microwave is playing a trick on you (and you should apologize to your spouse but of course don't)...it tries a few more things, such as turning on the fan. Who wouldn't want to hear the equivalent noise of a hair dryer going off late at night? Sometimes, just to toy with you it would stay on just long enough for you to reach the kitchen and then turn back off. Funny microwave, that was a good one. But wait, there's more. The SOB will then decide to exact its revenge toward you by burning your food. Or, should I say more accurately; cooking it unevenly so your frozen burrito you so looked forward to eating is ice cold in the center and lava hot at the ends. How does it do this you ask? Is it magic? Maybe. Or maybe because it decides to turn the turntable on and off at random too.
After awhile, the microwave breaks you and instead of crying you simply get use to the nuances. That's when you let your guard down and that's when it really strikes. You then get the dreaded SE code (which I can only assume means shoddy engineering). This will shut it down completely. But don't worry, within the first year they will send out a technician at no charge and in just a few short weeks after they leave...it repeats all over again! Silly Samsung, a new controller can't fix 1000 years of Indian Spirits.

I had purchased a Samsung French Door Refrigerator and I decided to continue upgrading our appliances, by purchasing a Samsung Slim Fry convection Microwave.
I purchased an "out of box" and described in Excellent condition unit, that was shipped to my house. When they installation team opened the box, they discovered that the unit was damaged in shipping (that part is on ups of course) however, they would go ahead and install it they took the old microwave out already and just request a replacement and swap them out; when the new unit arrived.
They discovered, that the store that sent the unit, forgot to send the installation hardware and the attachment bracket, so they couldn't install the new unit anyway. They installed the old unit and left.
I call Best Buy and through all of the hold time, transfers and other typical, outsourced service woes to include having my call dropped numerous time and having to start the process over again....We get another unit coming. Thinking I'm on top of my game today, I ask for a note to be included with the order to "please remember to include the attachment bolts and installation bracket" with the shipment. The Customer Agent says she will do that. Good call on my part to help prevent a future problem right?
The next unit arrives and I open the box to visibly inspect for damage this time. There is no damage due to shipping, it just looks like they will have to align the door with the unit upon installation, no biggie. I call best buy to schedule the installation and after some more transfers and another dropped call, I'm told that it will be 9 days for them to install the unit. Disappointing, but not the end of the world. You would think, in a situation like this, there would be a "priority install message" attached to my file as this could be problematic for Best Buy with any further incidents.
I remember the next day about the problem with the attachment hardware and bracket do I start digging through the box to check. I find attachment bolts this time but again....no installation bracket. If I would have not checked this, 9 days later we would have a second team of installers here and again, they wouldn't have been able to install my microwave. You can not use the bracket off of my old microwave and use it on this slim fry convection oven. It doesn't match or line up correctly.
So now Ill be honest, my patience limiter is starting to get close to the red. I have this beautiful Samsung Unit Im looking at and was once very excited to have installed and now Best Buy has ruined the excitement part of the transaction for me and my wife and buyers remorse is probably whats starting to push me into a negative light.
I call Best Buy, as my plan is to just make sure the bracket is here for the install and no more problems right? After more and I mean way to much hold time and another dropped call, I get people confused about my order and transferred a couple of times. Finally this stern and non apologetic lady gets on the phone and states, yes, this is an open box purchase and I cant authorize to send a bracket out to you.
I asked, " what does that mean, I looked at the open box rules and it says nothing about sending you things without the required hardware to install it" Why would you send out an "Open Box" product anyway and not tell the customer they need other things to get it installed? That makes absolutely zero sense. Her response, " well Im sorry" and then nothing. So I reply, wait a minute, are you telling me, that I have to buy a bracket now to have this installed? Even on an open box, this was just a shade under 500 dollars and you can't give me a metal bracket, to help out with a pending bad customer experience? Nope.
I canceled the installation and when I called to cancel the purchase, I was put on a two way call with an obvious outsourced service agent, that's accent was so heavy, I could barely understand her. She asked me why, I'm canceling the order. While I try to explain, she attempts to cut me off twice and I said, you ASKED ME WHY, you WILL listen to what happened.
I was positive and fair with Best Buy and my reviews until they pulled this with me.
Never again. There is no excuse for incompetence. None. I will never buy anything here EVER again.

We bought this as an open-box for an amazing price.... Now we know why. The fan and light would turn on randomly throughout the day and night. Every button seemed to control the turntable. When I wanted buttons to work, they wouldn't. Talked to local Best Buy and they said bring it back and exchange it for something else. Because of the great price, we opted to exchange it for the same one. It was delivered today and was missing the mounting kit. Called Samsung and were told that it could take up to 14 days to get the kit, but if we wanted to purchase one from the parts dept, it would be much faster.. HUH?? It's called put everything in the box the first time. Probably won't be buying Samsung anymore. Best Buy, on the other hand, is great to work with!

I like the fact you just turn the dial for time and with convection you can cook something in here and your oven.
What I did not like is the 3 speed fan control I practically have to thump my finger on the pad. The exhaust fan does not pull anything through from what you are cooking on the top. Even water vapor will not pull through. Yes, I set up the fan correctly and double checked it.
I would recommend this unless you got a smoking deal on it, not worth the money spent!

Warning! Do not buy Samsung Appliances.

I recently purchased top of the line Samsung appliances from Best Buy. (Refrigerator, Range and Micro wave). I started having problems with the microwave before the warranty ended. (The microwave scrolls through the menu by itself, turns on the fan by itself and the control panel locks up so we can’t turn it off without unplugging the unit). Samsung wanted to try repairing the unit so I agreed. (that was a mistake) Samsung sent a repair service to my house for repairs. After four attempts to repair the unit the service company stated that they could not repair the Microwave. I called Samsung and asked for a replacement. They told me the Microwave was now out of warranty and would not replace it even though the problem started before the warranty had expired. This thing scares the ---- out of me. I’m afraid it will start by itself and burn the house down so now we have a $ 600.00 dollar peace of junk that we can’t use.
I am sure all appliance manufactures produce a lemon once and a while but Samsung just doesn’t stand behind their product. The last conversation I had with Samsung I told them the microwave was junk and I’m tossing it in the dumpster. Their response was OK. I don’t blame you for that.

This microwave seems to take longer to cook foods than other full-sized microwaves I have owned. I like the fact that you can turn off audible notifications, and the eco display (unlit) would be good if you didn't have to reset it after every use.

Bought a brand new house and after 3 years I decided to purchase a new dishwasher as the builder grade was too noisy for open floor plan house. Because my dishwasher and refrigerator were Samsung, i decided to change out the microwave and gas burner/oven as well. Big mistake. Samsung had one OTC convection microwave and it cost $599. I figured it is their top of the line product so i should have nothing to worry about. Big mistake. 10 months in microwave completely died. I talk to the dumbest girl who tried to tell me my microwave was out of warranty while I was staring at the manufacture date sticker that stated October 2014. I had called in August 2015. When the repairmen showed up, his ticket said no receipt required due to manufacture date. So point proven on the stupidity of the original girl i talked to. Poor repairman spent 2 hours taking it a part. He asked me to help him take it down because it is pretty heavy. He nearly took the whole thing a part and asked if he could just take it back to the shop incase he had to order a new part. About a week later he was back. Apparently a wire shorted. Repair said he replaced wire harness. Took about 20 minutes to reinstall and he was gone. I tried the microwave and about 1 minute in, i guess what? I get an error code. E-A1. Do your self a favor. Do not buy. If you don't trust me, just google this model or even Samsung microwaves. Look at Home Depots review on this product. Really wish i did. I went ahead and extended my warranty another 3 years because looks like i should expect to change out the control panel once a year. Moisture weather it is food cooking in the microwave or under neath on the stove will fry your microwave over time. I'm going to tough it out for 3 years and then once the warranty is up looks like i will be in the market for new microwave. What's sad is your old American brands from 25 years ago are still running like champs in a lot of houses. Technology has not change muted so i blame this on poor quality. I agree with all the negative feedback that Samsung needs to recall this microwave! Good luck to those who are in the same boat as me and i feel for all of you who didn't know to extend your warrant.

Bad control panel

I will not recommend this product to anyone.
Purchased and installed in Jan. 2013. About four months later, the sensor on the panel didn't work. Since it was under 1 year manufactures warranty, Samsung replaced the control panel. The replaced panel gave me the same sensor problem time to time and now it's completely gone after about 1 year.
Since manufacturer's 1 year warranty is over and there are no warranty for the new part, I have to replace the control panel again which will cost me around $250.00 total. I am debating on between replacing the control panel again or buying a whole new one! Samsung advised me to purchase an extended warranty when purchasing new products. Another words, no matter how expensive the product is, it is only good for the manufacturer's warranty period, and if it works beyond, you are just lucky.

Warning! The prev model# bad reviews so new number

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
This microwave is garbage! The previous model number (ME179KFETSR) was so badly reviewed they changed the model number to get rid of the negative reviews. After two days of use, the microwave started displaying a "TE" error and stopped working. I did a little research and found out that they had changed the model number because of the tens of thousands of negative reviews. This microwave is actually one of the worst reviewed products I have ever read about. I don't see how something that has so many problems is not recalled or replaced. For the people who spent $600 and were left with a paperweight on day 366, something should be done. Once this new model number hits a year old I expect the bad reviews will start pouring in. Once the warranty is up, it's $300+ for repairs every 3-6 months. If you buy this microwave, make sure to get an extended warranty!
