This review is solely for using this monitor as additional monitor to my iMac for work purposes. I work from home and used to have 3 monitors and felt so cluttered and decided to just get one big decent size monitor. I have grown to love Samsung monitors for their superiority when it comes to monitors. The color is very vibrant and bright (I feel it almost matched my iMac, well almost) I don’t feel like I’m losing to much difference when I work on my iMac than this monitor. I find no stuffer or random shut off when using it. Also I was surprise on how easy it was to setup ! The remote is a game changer! I can easily turn it off without having to fiddle with buttons under the monitor. Turning it off and on is butter smooth! The weight of this monitor is unreal. For such a big monitor it’s very simply to move around. Even though it doesn’t weigh anything it still feels sturdy! The color white just matches my decor of my work area and appears to even match my silver iMac.

Needed a new clean looking work from home set up & this baby is it! Connected my thinkpad easily & can switch to tv OR split screen. The only issue is the camera doesn’t sit at the right angle, it’s a little too high and you can’t really adjust it. But I absolutely love it & don’t mind that little technical issue at all. The white is so aesthetically pleasing. Love it. Just get a white keyboard and mouse.

This is a monitor i knew about for awhile by seeing a youtube review for it. Its basically a smart tv in the form of a 32" monitor. I wish it was a glossy screen, but thats a small nit pick. I also wish it had a full size HDMI port instead of the micro HDMI it comes with, but ecerything else is great.

GREAT 4K THIN CLIENT / TV STREAMER / WEBCAM

SAMSUNG - 32" M80B UHD SMART MONITOR WITH STREAMING TV AND SLIMFIT CAMERA INCLUDED - WARM WHITE MODEL LS32BM801UNXGO Best Buy Tech Insider Network GREAT 4K THIN CLIENT / TV STREAMER / WEBCAM OVERALL The SAMSUNG M8 SMART MONITOR looks fantastic both in overall aesthetics and the screen quality. For the intended use cases, it a great fit in form and functionality. The M8 should easily satisfy most users. The picture quality is crisp and clear for all the uses below as expected with HDR 10+, and sRGB 99%. I did find a little faint graying around the edges when viewed off of center (VA Glow), but that it typical for this type of VA panel. It was average in strong sunlight. USE CASE: LIGHT COMPUTING / REMOTE COMPUTING The M8 has enough power and smarts to get it connected to popular social platforms, video web conferencing, and more. It is pretty cool that it has a built in Windows Remote Client to allow you to remotely take over another Windows Pro Edition computer. Attach a Blue Tooth Mouse and Keyboard and you will be hard pressed to tell if you are working on a local PC or a remote PC for all but the most graphic intensive programs. For video conferencing, the built-in webcam worked a lot better than I expected. The “AI”camera did a great job at zooming in, keeping me well lit, and in focus. The Full HD camera gave a clear image all the time. There is a magnetic cameral cover for added privacy. One last cool trick is that that with right subscriptions from Microsoft you can also run MS OFFICE applications like Word, Excel, etc, though I found the response a little sluggish. I think the M8 is perfect for non-power users who just want a simple way to stay connected and do some light work once in a while. This of it as sort of an “all in one” monitor with a very thin client. USE CASE: STREAMING TV The M8 has the built in Samsung Channels (Samsung TV Plus) for a wide variety of linear streaming programming. It also has built in apps for all popular streaming apps. As a streaming TV it is pretty good, I find the M8 is on par with streaming sets. I was easily able to use the included remote to navigate all the included apps, and also pair the TV with Blue Tooth Headsets and speakers. My only disappointment was the quality of the speakers on the “TV”. As a monitor it has great speakers, but as TV, they are only OK. While it can get very loud, unless you really crank up the volume you don’t get much depth to sound. So, like any other TV you will want to get a nice Bluetooth soundbar or earbuds. The TV supports screen casting from your phone and other systems. From my windows PC it was hit or miss if the screen sharing would connect, but once it did, it worked well. Note: There is no wired network input, so you must have good WiFi availability. USE CASE: MULTI PURPOSE TV Because it is primarily a streaming TV you need to know that there is only 1 HDMI port, and one USB C (display port for PC connections). So, if you need to connect it to more than 1 HDMI source you will need an external switching device. Also, there is no Over the Air TV Tuner, so if you want to bring in other non-streaming channels you will need an external tuner. I mentioned above Bluetooth speakers. As near as I can tell from the specs, the HDMI port is does not support Audio Return, and there is no 3.5mm audio/headphone jack. So that means your only option for audio is Blue Tooth. To turn the M8 into a great replacement multipurpose TV, you will likely need an HDMI Switch, an Audio Extractor for TOS (optical) Audio & Audio Return, an external TV Tuner, and a Sound Bar. USE CASE: PC Monitor 4K 60hz It is a very attractive monitor and aesthetically side by side puts my 2 year old 32 inch 4Khz from another maker to shame. Both HDMI and USB-C (Embedded DP) worked well. Visually games, graphics, and movies looked great. If you game at 4K, this is maxed out at 60Hz which it pretty typical for 4K monitors at this price point. However, if you are a power user or just like to connect lots of systems and devices, you will miss things like multiple video inputs, and any usable USB hub built into the monitor. Technically, you can connect 1 additional USB-C device to the monitor (besides video input). But most other monitors in this range might have 4-8 ports. I did not see in the specs V-Sync or G-Sync support, so I did not try to test V-Sync. FEATURE - SIDE BY SIDE PICTURE At the time of this review, you can only do Side by Side with one external input and the other window either being Samsung Plus or You Tube. If you want your PC in the big window and Plex (or any other app) in the small window forget it. If you want to use the two video external input ports at the same time, forget it. I have my own local library of shows and movies, but I can’t easily watch them in the side-by-side mode feature mode. FEATURE – ALEXA Setting the device up to act like an echo device works well and the M8 heard me under most circumstances. I don’t use the Samsung Biggby assistant at this time, so I was not able to test it. FEATURE - SMART THINGS I was easily able to connect to my SmarThings hub and control connected devices with the remote. But I have them all connected anyway through Alexa, so this was redundant for me, other than I could use the remote control. SET UP and PHYSICAL STUFF: The screen itself weighs next to nothing. The base and stand are very heavy. This makes for a sturdy stand. However, it is really hard to get to the I/O ports on the back once the stand is attached, so my advice is to attach the cables before attaching them to the stand. Everything went together easily enough, no big issues in assembly. The power brick is “giant” for a “TV” but there is a nice long power cord. The stand/monitor can only be raised or lowered, and has a small tilt capability. Unfortunately, there is no swivel capability, so the stand has to be physically moved to change the viewing angle on the M8. This is important because most modern displays with VA Panels need to be viewed head on. There are no VESA mounts, so if you want to use your own stand or wall mount, you are out of luck. The remote is very basic, but easy enough to use. It is a typical streaming remote control for navigation. ONE NOTE FOR PC USERS: If you want to use the built-in camera for PC based conferencing, you must hunt down and manually install the monitor driver from the SAMSUNG site, and of course connect to the monitor over USB-C. Then the camera will show as an option in your favorite conferencing software. The one downside that I found is that automatic AI capability of the camera does not work in PC mode. Instead, you get a nice 1080p, wide angle view, which you can manually zoom in via your conferencing software. This is OK, but I really wish the AI would work the same in PC mode as it does in Monitor only mode. CONCLUSION / RECOMMENDATION Phew, that was a lot to cover but there are lots of features. My main frustration is that is that it is so close to perfect, that the minor shortcomings for a power user really stand out to me. If I could do Side-by-Side with the apps of my choice, instead of only YouTube and Samsung Plus, this would be my primary monitor. If the AI webcam worked in PC mode, this would replace my primary webcam & monitor that I use for video conferences. If it had multiple HDMI’s it would be my primary TV for gaming and TV. If it had VESA mounts, I could mount it a swing arm. Always for me, it is one port or feature short of fulfilling my needs under each use case where I wanted to use the M8 as my primary device. You have to judge for yourself if you even care about the above topics. When I write reviews, I always grade on what it is, not what it isn’t. In other words, how well does it do what it says it will, instead of what I wished it would do. There are no “stars” removed for missing features that I wished for. It does what it says it will do and looks good doing it. The SAMSUNG M8 SMART MONITOR is very well built, very attractive, minimalistic and has a great picture. If you need either an “All in One” Thin Client, A Streaming TV, or A Single Computer 4K Monitor on your desk, the M8 is worth a close look and probably a test drive.

Below is my detailed review on this Ultra thin 32”UHD Monitor. Assembly- Very easy to assemble to the stand, basically one screw to mount built the two units of the stand and then simple click the monitor to the stand. The stand is made of the solid metal and is very sturdy. I love the way you can not only tilt the monitor on the stand, but it slides up and down for different heights as well. Very nice design. The webcam is another easy assembly, you simply add a small adapter and then the whole unit magnetically snap itself into place. The webcam also come with a magnetic privacy cover that stores on the back of the camera and when not in use. Connections- On the back you have a power/selector button and your input ports -Micro HDMI, two USB type C and a power adapter input. USB is also powered so you can also charge your devices up to 65 watt fast charge. Bluetooth & Wireless – Connect all your Bluetooth devices with ease, Keyboard, mouse, Speakers etc. Every device I connected went smoothly. Monitor and Remote- Very slim remote that is rechargeable via USB type C You have your shortcut keys for Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video and Samsung TV along with a voice activation button for Amazon Alexa or Samsung’s Bixby assistant. (Your choice at set-up) The left and right speakers are hidden in the back of the monitor and sound okay for being built into a monitor of this size. Speaking of the size of this monitor, it is very thin (<.5 inch) and sleek with clean bezel edges. The specs of the display - UHD or up to 3840x2160 resolution, 400 nits of brightness, 99%sRGB color gamut and HDR10+ support. All this to say the screen quality is amazing. Once again, Samsung does not disappoint. Document viewing is crisp and picture quality of streaming, art, games are all outstanding. I also love the matte screen finish of the screen as it does a fantastic job of not reflecting surrounding light. Setup- Initial setup was a pretty easy process as well. You have a choice to use your phone via Samsung Smart Things App or simply use the remote. Features: This M8 monitor is packed with features. Smart TV, with include all your expected streaming services PLUS it has Samsung FREE TV which is a big bonus. The interface is clean and easy to use. The UI is also very responsive. As mentioned earlier, upon setup, you have a choice to set up Amazon Alexa or Bixby as your voice assistant. You can choose to have the assistant respond to your voice or just the button on the remote. With Multiview you can do Picture in Picture with some inputs, but not all. I did try to watch Amazon Prime and see my PC at the same time and could not figure it out. I could view PC and Samsung Free TV, YouTube or phone. Wireless Screen Sharing- Beside the wired options, you can connect and share your computer screen via Screen Sharing (Win 8.1 and up). You can also screen share using Smart View or Apple AirPlay. To use as your main computer monitor, I would suggest using one of the hard wire choices as I found that to be more fluid with better resolution Casting- You can also cast your screen from your mobile device with ease. I have a Samsung S20 that I can simply tap against the monitor, and it will connect and share my phones screen to the monitor using Samsung Smart View. Wired- HDMI connection was flawless; however, I did run into trouble connecting my PC to the monitor via USB C. at first (User error), I thought the monitor would not recognize it as a PC. Reading through the ‘connection guide’ of the ‘support’ tab, I found you need to go to the Connected Devices tab / Sources and then select your PC there. With Samsung DeX on a compatible Galaxy, Note or Tab device, you can connect your phone via USB C or wirelessly to the monitor allowing you to use your phone much like a PC*. Another stand out option is the ability to use this monitor without a PC at all. With a Microsoft 365 account you can browse websites and work on all you Microsoft documents connected to your account.* *Note you will need to connect a keyboard and mouse. Webcam - The only Con I found with this device was the fact that the Webcam only appears to work with Google Duo and not applications like Microsoft Teams or Zoom. This is a big disappointment for the work-from-home person. I use Microsoft teams every day and was looking forward to the built-in webcam. (-1 star) Other than the con mentioned above. The Camera has a very nice picture and can also be used to aid you in workouts. You can view yourself while viewing workout content and you also have the option to get real time feedback thorough motion tracking. This feature tracks your body in real time to let you know if you are using proper form. Final thoughts. Overall, this monitor is pretty amazing. Samsung packed everything except a touch screen into this Smart Monitor. The Samsung M8 is so much more than a monitor. It is truly a Smart Monitor. You can use the smart home functions using the SmartThings App, voice assistant from Amazon or Bixby smart functions, connect anything you want through wired, Bluetooth or Wi-Fi devices, even connect Samsung wireless surround sound systems. You can even connect USB hard drive if needed. You can stream all your favorite video services and even watch them while working on your computer using Muti-View. You can screen share with Smart View, Tap View or Apple AirPlay and you even get Free TV. Oh, and the picture quality is what you expect from Samsung, A+.

Thank you for your review of the new M8 Smart Monitor with Streaming TV! We are sorry to hear you are experiencing some issues with the use of the camera. In order for the camera to work with video call apps outside of Google Duo, you must only hook up your monitor to PC using the USB-C slot on the back of the monitor. When the monitor is using HDMI, it will not detect it outside of the local apps on the monitor.

Again, thank you for your review! If you ever require further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact Samsung Customer Support via:

    The Swiss Knife of Monitors!

Monitors come and go. But Samsung has taken this to another level by releasing a line of smart monitors. Smart monitors you say? Well Samsung has released this line of monitors as the “Swiss Knife” of monitors catering to a whole gamut of users. And while there are monitors there with better specific features, none comes close to Samsung’s smart monitor’s capabilities. First, what is the Samsung M8 smart monitor? Well, it’s a 32 inch monitor that has a 4K resolution which also supports HDR 10+ with a refresh rate of 60 hz. It has a thin bezel design and has a thickness of 11.6mm. And unlike most monitors, the Samsung M8 comes with an adjustable height stand which reminds some folks of that it is strikingly similar to the fruit branded monitor. But in fairness to Samsung, it came up with the announcement during CES 2022 before the other brand announced theirs. As a smart monitor, Samsung has divided the monitor’s use into two segments. One being focusing on entertainment and the other segment focusing on productivity or work functions. Powered by Samsung’s own Tizen OS, the Samsung M8 smart monitor has all the entertainment features you would find in a Samsung TV. Major streaming apps like Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+, etc. are included. Picture quality of the M8 is equivalent to watching on a standard 4k However, there is no TV tuner port included in this monitor. On top of that, this monitor has a work or productivity mode which could either be wired or wireless. On the wireless end, this has two USB-C ports one having the ability to charge and pass through video and audio while the other acts more like a regular USB-C port. It also has a micro HDMI cable for computers. (Why Samsung decided to use a micro HDMI port still baffles me.) But in either case, Samsung provides cables for both connections. Further, I would recommend that you also download the M8 driver from Samsung for Windows based computers. (And if you have multiple computers like me - Windows and Mac - which needs to go through the HDMI port, a 4K enabled switch is highly recommended.) For the wireless end, Samsung has made it easy to use the M8 without the need of cables for various platforms. For Mac computers, the M8 utilizes AirPlay to cast your Mac’s screen. Note that this not only applies to Mac OS but to iOS devices as well. For the Windows platform, Samsung has an app named EasyConnect which makes mirroring seamless when using Windows though Windows has its own screen mirroring function similar to AirPlay. And lastly, this monitor also is DEX capable meaning you can easily cast your Samsung phone to this monitor. Unfortunately, I do not have a Samsung phone but I have tried wireless connectivity to both Mac and Windows. Do note that there is a slight lag or delay when using wireless connectivity either with EasyConnect or AirPlay. (But then again most wireless connectivity technology as this point in time has some lag.) The Samsung M8 Smart Monitor also includes a webcam. Dubbed as the “Slim Fit Camera”, it primarily is attached to the top of the monitor and is secured by magnets. It has an adaptor which uses a proprietary connector to the monitor. (But I would have preferred it if Samsung used a USB-C port on the monitor since the Slim Fit Camera has a USB-C jack which connects to the adaptor. The Slim Fit Camera has 1080p resolution and has face recognition technology. Out of the box and using Samsung’s Smart Hub interface, you can use the Slim Fit Camera with the built-in Google Duo app. Mind you the face tracking works. Also, Samsung’s Smart Hub has two video exercise apps used in conjunction with YouTube wherein you can monitor yourself while doing a workout. Lastly, the Slim Fit Camera can also be connected to your computer so that Zoom and other video conferencing apps can be used. Do note that you have to use the USB-C port in order for your computer to recognize the camera. HDMI will simply not work. Unfortunately for me, I have set up this monitor for use with a vintage AMD powered gaming rig and a vintage Mac mini in my home office workspace. So I am forced to use a third party camera. The Slim Fit Camera was detected immediately when I tried my 2021 HP laptop. As a bonus for productivity, the Samsung M8 has included a browser and a shortcut (key or app) for Microsoft 365. I have tried it and it works. But it is quite laggy and if you have a computer connected to this monitor, it would be much user to use Microsoft 365 from your computer. Plus you would need a bluetooth keyboard to use Microsoft 365 with the remote acting as your mouse. Given that the Samsung M8 Smart Monitor has a lot of features, the main question is “What is the intended use for this?” Well I guess it’s a top end monitor that caters to a wide gamut of users but not really the best in everything but the best overall. Take for example, it is a 32” 4K monitor running at 60hz. It will appeal to a lot since 32” is big for a monitor but slow avid gamers. Sure your Xbox and PS5 will run perfectly, but AAA PC games will still find it a bit wanting. It has Tizen so the experience of a TV is very similar. But it still won’t compare to a larger 4K smart TV. It has Microsoft 365 built-in, but using that on Windows or even a Mac will be better. I guess this is a Swiss knife equivalent for monitors, it has a little bit of everything. But still lacks in some areas. It’s a jack of all trades but master of none. Still, I find this monitor very versatile and would cater to a greater number of computer users. I would still recommend this smart monitor.

Unboxing this monitor was a nice experience since the instructions, packaging and included hardware were simple and easy to understand and set up. WiFi and connections were guided by a simple wizard. The monitor is flat as possible and the stand is heavy and sturdy. There are a bunch of tools needed except for a screwdriver for one screw. The stand design is simple and strong. I noticed how easy it is to adjust the monitor up and down on the stand with one hand as well as to tilt as well. The included camera was simple to install and adjust. There is a metal face plate to cover the camera when not in use. The resolution, field of view and color of the camera are excellent. The light sensor adjusts image as needed. You can use video calling and Samsung fitness without a PC as well. The included remote works well and includes short cuts to the TV channels, Netflix, Prime and Disney+. There are buttons for power, mic, back, home, play/pause, and volume and channel up and down. I like that the remote is not too flat to make it difficult to pick up quickly. It has a nice roundness to the sides. The smart monitor works great with my Windows PC. It can connect with the included USB-C cable, the included HDMI to mini-HDMI cable or via the network or internet with any Windows PC that has the Samsung Easy Connection To Screen software installed. I tried it with my PC on the same network as the monitor as well as with my wife's PC which is at her work and not on the same network and it works as well either way. The idea is that you can have this monitor in your living area without a PC located there and still use the monitor to watch streaming services or to use apps on the PC by connecting a USB-C keyboard and mouse directly to the monitor. You can also use Windows 365 on the monitor without having a PC connected at all. You do all the same things with a Mac. This is a UHD HDR 10+ monitor so it has a great screen and image quality with excellent colors no matter if I am streaming video or using my PC. I love the way you can adjust the image settings to make the screen look so life-like. The optimum brightness feature of the light sensor makes the image always easy to view. The built in speakers are not the best for bass but the sound quality is very good. The built in mic is also very good and works well with Alexa or Bixby to control my smart home. I like that Apple AirPlay is built in to the monitor so I an mirror my iPhone screen to the monitor. The built in side by side screen viewing and picture in picture is awesome. I just wish you could customize the size of the windows more and that it was easier to switch the main window. This monitor has so many features and is such a nice piece of technology it is difficult to tell all there is to know.

The first thing you notice about this 32” monitor is that it is very thin. Samsung has come a long way with their monitors and they continue to reduce the thickness of them each year. Even though this is a 32” monitor, it is lightweight for its size. No doubt this is mostly due to it being so thin. The monitor has a microHD input over which you can send a 4k 60 signal. 4K60 output from my laptop to the monitor looked great. It’s sharp and the color was accurate. It also has two USB-C ports on the back of the monitor along with the power port and microHD port. One usb port is for connecting to your computer and the other is for connecting peripherals. You can also charge devices off of the usb port. The ports and on the bottom back center of the monitor. With the usb ports being there along with the power port, the monitor had to be offset from the stand in order for there to be room to plug in the cables. This seems to have caused the stand to be deeper than it might otherwise have had to be. Hopefully, Samsung will move the ports over to the back right side or some other location and make the vertical part of the monitor stand closer to the monitor. It has a webcam that comes with it that will mount on the top back of the monitor so it is out of the way but I didn’t have any problems with the position of the webcam. It was able to capture me without a problem. The webcam works with the monitor, but windows on my laptop doesn't recognize it. The resolution is good to use with meetings and streaming video, however I wasn't able to get my windows laptop to recognize the camera. There is a magnetic cover for the camera for privacy. The camera has a magnetic mount and uses a usb-c adaptor to connect it to the monitor. You don’t have to use any cables for the camera to work with the monitor. The monitor can stream video through many of the popular streaming services. This is a nice feature since it doesn’t require you to turn on a computer if you are just wanting to stream something. Here are some of the apps the monitor supports: HBO Max, Prime Video, Starz, YouTube TV, Netflix, Apple TV, Disney+, Hulu, Tubi, as well as several others. Navigating through the apps is easy with the included remote. The remote can be charged by a usb-c cable so you don’t have to mess around with batteries. It supports DeX. I was able to easily connect my Samsung Galaxy tablet wirelessly to the monitor. The mouse feature of the tablet in this mode responds well, but I did notice that streaming through DeX had a delay. It wasn’t much but did show up. Everything else responded reasonably fast. I’m glad Samsung added this feature to the monitor. I will be using this from time to time. Samsung has done a great job with this monitor. It’s large, high resolution, and light weight given its size. I would recommend this to anyone wanting a large high resolution monitor that also has streaming capabilities built in and that supports DeX.

This is a well designed multi-functional smart monitor. I love the capability to go from streaming TV functions / news to using it as another monitor. The remote PC feature is incredibly helpful (I forgot my laptop one day, but with this set up, was able to continue working.)

I wanted a large monitor to pair with a laptop, one that had nice styling and could easily switch between a mac and a pc. I wanted height adjustability and I wanted a nice camera that didnt make me look like a washed out ghost. This delivers on all fronts. The only thing that I would like to change is that no matter what usbc port I use it charges my laptop battery, and I am concerned about battery life.

It has been my experience that “multi-purpose”, “combination” or “all-in-one” types of devices usually involve a significant level of compromise. Typically, they may serve one function better than the others, and sometimes they do not perform any of the functions particularly well. That “trade-off”, where a device is great with one functionality and inferior with the other(s) generally discourages me from selecting multi-purpose, ‘Swiss Army Knife” electronics. That is most certainly not the case with the Samsung 32” UHD Monitor with Smart TV, Model LS32BM801. This outstanding monitor does everything incredibly well! The LS32BM801 is a 4K UHD Monitor, which also supports streaming content, video calls and productivity applications including Microsoft Office 365 without being connected to a PC. A Bluetooth keyboard and mouse can be used with the M8 to provide an enhanced browsing or productivity workspace experience with no PC involved. It also serves as an IoT Hub using Samsung SmartThings, and includes both Alexa and Bixby support. The specifications are excellent, and the performance is likewise outstanding! The 32” Diagonal, Flat VA display panel measures 27.45” Wide x 15.44” Tall, with a 16:9 Aspect Ratio. The display appears very bright and Samsung specifies the minimum Brightness at 300 Nits and typical Brightness at 400 Nits, coupled with a Contrast Ratio of 3000:1 and 99% sRGB. With Native 4K UHD Resolution of 3,840 x 2,160, with HDR10 / HDR10+, a 4ms Response Time and 60 Hz Refresh Rate, all of the specifications are excellent, and in use, the display looks brilliant and beautiful! Additionally, the M8 has a Game Mode with Ultrawide Game View with a 21:9 aspect ratio and an anti-glare, matte screen coating. The monitor’s maximum depth is a very thin 0.8779” at the rear bump-out, but around the perimeter of the monitor it is an astonishingly thin 0.5”. The M8 weighs 14.77 lbs with the stand, but it is not VESA wall mountable. Built into that incredibly thin monitor is 2.2 channel audio with 5 W rear-firing speakers which uses Samsung Adaptive Sound + audio. Audio volume is plentiful and sound quality is certainly acceptable for a very thin monitor with small, thin transducers. The physical appearance of the M8 is very sleek and slim. Not only is the panel an extremely thin ½”, the bezels on the top and sides of the panel are almost invisible, at around 1/16”. The included, height adjustable stand accommodates up to 4.5” of vertical adjustment as well as -2° / +15° tilt. The VA panel should have very good off-axis viewing. The listed specification is 178° horizontal and vertical, which far exceeds typical utilization. However, I find that off-axis viewing delivers perceptibly reduced color fidelity and contrast, so I try to minimize the viewing angle to really enjoy the absolutely stellar screen with its vivid and bright color and resolution. Interface connectivity includes USB-C 3.1 Gen2 and Micro HDMI Version 2.0 with HDCP 2.2. One of the USB-C ports is an upstream port which provides 15 W of device charging output, and the other, downstream port provides up to 65 W of output. Even though HDMI is available, and Samsung includes an HDMI to Mini-HDMI cable, the M8 is clearly intended to utilize USB-C as the primary means of connectivity to a PC or laptop, in a simplified connectivity model which facilitates ease of use and connectivity with the majority of associated devices. Additionally, wireless connectivity and casting from a PC are available. The Samsung M8 runs on Tizen 6.5 OS. The M8 includes support for 802.11 ac / Wi-Fi 5, Wi-Fi Direct, DLNA, Samsung DEX and Bluetooth 4.2. Samsung touts several features for the M8 including (alphabetically), Adaptive Picture, Alexa, Apple AirPlay, Auto Source Switch +, Bixby, ConnectShare, Eye Saver Mode, Far-Field Voice Interaction, Flicker-Free Technology, Game Bar 2.0, Game Mode, Low Blue Light, SmartThings, Tap View, Ultrawide Game View and Workmode. Included with the M8 is the Samsung Smart Remote Control. This extremely compact IR remote has a USB rechargeable internal battery. In addition to a small array of multifunction buttons, there are also dedicated buttons for select streaming services including Samsung TV Plus, Netflix, Disney + and Prime Video. Samsung also includes a USB-C cable, an HDMI to Mini-HDMI cable and a 140W, 20V power supply. Samsung also includes a unique webcam with the M8. The camera attaches to the rear of the monitor magnetically, making it easily removable when absolute privacy is a concern. The camera has a USB-C (2.0) port which connects to the rear of the monitor with the included USB to 4 Pin adapter. The camera lens peeks out above the screen, and has a modest range of height and angle adjustability. A lens privacy-cover is also furnished, which when not in use covering the lens, is stored on the rear of the camera body, also magnetically. The webcam is 1080p @ 30 fps with an 85° viewing angle. The user interface is very good and easy to navigate. Numerous streaming apps are pre-installed, including Samsung TV+. Navigation through some menus and launching some apps proved to be sufficiently slow on occasion to be annoying. Significantly, the Samsung TV App Store still pales in comparison to the Google Play - Android App Store. There are several Android apps that I use regularly on my Android TVs that simply are not available from Samsung. Additionally, the Samsung Smart TV Browser has limitations, and it would be very nice to be able to install a second browser for greater functionality. The LS32BM801 ships in a nondescript brown box filled with everything needed to immediately set up and start enjoying the M8 Monitor. The printed documentation included in the box is very sparse. The only printed document which provides guidance pertaining to using the M8 is entitled “Quick Startup Guide” and it provides just enough information to assemble the stand and attach the monitor to it. There is no printed user manual included. Fortunately, there is plentiful helpful information and documentation, including PDF copies of the “User Manual” and the “E-Manual” on the product support website. The E-Manual is also viewable directly on the monitor. Physically setting up the M8 monitor could not be easier. The height adjustable stand ships disassembled in two major components. They easily slip together and are joined securely by tightening one Phillips-head screw, which is already preinstalled and captive in the correct position in the base. Attaching the monitor panel to the base is literally a snap. The top two fixed pins on the base are inserted into the mounting flange on the panel and the panel is then rotated for the bottom latching pins to engage with the flange, literally snapping them together. The connection can also be disassembled if ever desired. Powering on the M8 for first use presents the Setup Screen, which offers “Two Simple Options” to set up the M8; either using the “Smartphone – Quick and Easy” setup, or the “Remote Control – Step-by-Step” setup. It was not too far into the “Quick and Easy” Smartphone setup that problems emerged. I have set up several smart TVs which are Android devices. Android TV setup essentially flies on auto-pilot once launched. It has always been simple, easy and efficient. I have never encountered problems when setting up an Android TV. The Samsung, Tizen OS Smartphone setup requires the installation of the Samsung “Smart-Things” app and the creation of a Samsung online account. This requires furnishing personal information to Samsung, granting numerous permissions and reading and formally accepting numerous disclosures, some of which are lengthy legal documents, with no option to download and save copies of them. Of course, accepting everything is required in order to proceed with setting up and using the new device. It was during the Wi-Fi connection step in the Smartphone configuration process that after the M8 monitor was connected to my network, the Samsung SmartThings app would not advance to the next step in the setup process. It hung repeatedly, and looped right back to the “Select Wi-Fi Network” step. Multiple, repeated attempts failed. Samsung’s app then directed configuring the Wi-Fi setup using the Remote Control setup process (even though the M8 monitor was, in fact, already connected to the network). Multiple attempts failed. The app, which displayed that the M8 monitor was already connected to the network, insisted on repeating the connection process. However, it continued to fail when using WPS, as well as when manually entering the network SSID and Password. Force-closing the Samsung app and retrying all setup routines continued to fail repeatedly. Finally, after resorting to rebooting the Samsung M8, the setup process finally proceeded to completion, and the M8 registered with the SmartThings app. The setup process had proved to be cumbersome, problematic and frustrating, and it consumed an inordinate amount of time and effort to overcome the repeated failure of Samsung M8 to properly complete the setup process. I do not know if this was an unusual, atypical anomaly, or if this is a common problem. It seems most likely that the M8 firmware was the problem source. The setup annoyances and the Samsung browser and app store limitations notwithstanding, the Samsung M8 is otherwise a great device! The image quality is outstanding! Bright, vivid well saturated and accurate colors make viewing streaming content or PC applications a pleasure to behold. The M8 is bright and looks great even with a high level of ambient light. It also has low reflectivity, which further facilitates use in a bright room. The Samsung M8 is both a great streaming TV and a great PC monitor. I can certainly recommend it!
