The picture quality is amazing and the letters do not look pixelated up close :). I love the build in USB hub that easily connects to my thunderbolt port device in addition to supplying power! The only negative I have is that there is only one HDMI port l!

I was pleasantly surprised when my new Samsung 37” ViewFinity S8 monitor showed up at my door sooner than expected. The box was pretty big, but nothing I couldn’t manage. Everything was really well protected with foam and plastic, as Samsung products usually are. Included in the box are quality cables (USB-C and HDMI), which is always nice. Quick note, I do wish companies would start printing their names/logos on the cables more. After I got it all unboxed I brought it straight back to my guest bedroom, where I have a small desk and an extra guest laptop set up with a much smaller monitor.
Setup was probably the easiest I’ve ever had with a monitor. The stand comes in two pieces that twist together, then the monitor clicks right into place, super fast and no hassle at all. It took maybe two minutes, from start to finish. The build quality looks and feels really nice too. The stand is metal and has a good weight to it without being bulky. Once I had it set up on my desk, the whole thing felt stable and well-balanced. The overall design is sleek, and the thin bezels help make the 37 inches feel larger.
The adjustability on the stand is one of my favorite features. You can raise or lower the height, tilt it back, and swivel it side to side quite a bit. I tested out the range of motion and everything moved smoothly and stayed where I left it. For a guest room setup, it’s great because no matter who’s sitting at the desk, they can get it to the angle they want without any hassle, even if they decide to lay on the bed and use the wireless keyboard and mouse.
Once I powered it on and connected it to the laptop over USB-C, everything just worked. The 4K UHD resolution is super sharp, and right out of the box the colors looked amazing. This monitor supports HDR10, and it really shows, everything looks crisp and clean. The matte screen is also a big plus for me, because I have a lot of windows and my guest room is a bright room with sunlight coming in during the day. It cuts down glare without killing the image, though like most VA panels, the colors can look a little muted from off-angles. Straight on, perfect! I’ve had a chance to use it for everything from streaming shows to editing photos and videos, and I”m happy with everything. For work, it’s been great, spreadsheets are way easier to manage when you can see dozens of columns at the same time.
Gaming on this monitor has also been better than I expected. It’s 60Hz, so it’s not a competitive gamer’s monitor, and there’s no G-Sync or FreeSync, but for casual gaming it’s been awesome. The 4K resolution and HDR10 support bring out a lot of detail and rich color in games, and the size of the screen makes everything feel more immersive.
The monitor also acts like a hub, which is part of what makes it perfect for this setup. It’s got a USB-C port that delivers up to 90W of charging power, HDMI 2.0, DisplayPort, three USB-A ports, an Ethernet port, and a headphone jack. I’ve got the keyboard and mouse dongle plugged right into the monitor. So anytime I want to use that laptop, I just plug in one USB-C cable and I’m instantly connected to everything, video, power, peripherals, and internet if I hooked it up.
The built-in KVM switch is a really cool feature I’ve never had before. I connected two laptops as a text, and it works perfectly, switching between them with ease. You can even split the screen between the two sources using picture-in-picture or picture-by-picture modes. I don’t really need that feature day to day, but it’s pretty neat and I’ll never complain about extra features!
One thing I was really hoping for, though, was to be able to use this monitor as a TV in the guest room. I have a Roku streaming soundbar that I tried hooking up, and it works, but not in the way it’s supposed to work. The issue is that the monitor’s HDMI port doesn’t support eARC, so it doesn’t fully communicate with the Roku soundbar. The soundbar itself stays on and just goes into sleep mode, but the monitor doesn’t auto-off when you turn the Roku “off.” You have to manually power the monitor off using the button. So yes, it can still work as a TV, but only if the guest remembers to shut the monitor off themselves, or you set it up to go to sleep after a few hours. That one little feature, adding eARC, would’ve solved the whole issue. Such a small upgrade, but it would’ve made a big difference for using this as a secondary TV.
For audio in general, there are no built-in speakers, which I expected. It does have a headphone jack if you want to plug something in, and I’ve been using Bluetooth speakers connected to the laptop with no problems. But if this had eARC or even basic speakers built in, it would’ve taken the whole package up another level.
I do think it’s worth noting that there’s only one HDMI input. It’s not a huge deal for me, since I’ve only got one device connected at a time, but if you wanted to hook up more than one HDMI source, like a console and a streaming device, you’d have to swap cables, or get a hub or something. And like I mentioned, no remote control either, which I get since it’s a monitor, not a TV, but it still would’ve brought this monitor to the next level. Imagine if the remote was just a tiny little thing that attached, via a small magnet, to the monitor base.. That would be cool!
Aside from those small things, I really like this monitor. It really looks nice and the picture quality is top of the line, the USB-C works great, and the build seems to be of high quality durable materials. I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a big, high-quality monitor that can double as a docking station. If Samsung added eARC, I’d call it nearly perfect. But even as is, it’s a really, really nice monitor.

Samsung 37” ViewFinity is an impressive monitor that will blow you away with its brilliant colors, 4K UHD resolution and loads of real estate. I have been using this monitor for a few days now and I love almost everything about it. So, let’s go over what the new Samsung S8 ViewFinity has to offer.
Setup:
The setup process could not be any simpler. I absolutely love tool-less assemblies and this is just that. The stand and base come together with a simple insert and twist and the monitor locks into place on the stand. It literally took me about 3 minutes to put this monitor together. It took me longer to remove my old dual monitor to replace with this beautiful display.
Refresh Rate: 60Hz
Resolution: 3840 x 2160
Panel type: LED
Weight: 19.6 pounds
Display:
The display and resolution on this monitor are truly remarkable. The HDR10 support combined with the 4K UHD led display makes the colors pop, giving you deeper contrasts and brighter highlights, so your visuals feel more immersive and clearer. Whether you’re working, enjoying your favorite show, or even a little bit of gaming, this monitor will make that experience more enjoyable. Oh, by the way you can do both at the same time.
Multi-tasking:
Multi-tasking is not an issue with this monitor. The built-in KVM switch allows you to toggle between multiple devices with this monitor. So, I have my laptop and my PS5 connected to this, and I can do both at the same time. Yes, the refresh rate does take a hit but for a casual gamer, it works out just fine. The KVM switch allows you to toggle between devices with a Picture-in-Picture or Picture-By-Picture. I personally preferred PBP vs. PIP because the PIP was a bit smaller as the PBP splits up the screen evenly.
Along with multi-tasking, one cool feature about this monitor is the ability to connect all your peripherals, such as your keyboard, mouse and even the internet connection right to your monitor and just have one cable run to your laptop for a clean setup.
Ports:
1 Display Port
1 HMDI
1 USB-B
1 USB- C – Can be used for display or data transfer
1 Lan Port
Audio Jack
2 Super Speed USB ports
So, there were a couple of things that kept this beautiful monitor from being the perfect display. There is no speaker on this monitor. Even though this monitor is specifically made for productivity, sometimes productivity requires online meetings and even when you’re not being productive such as casual browsing, maybe a movie here and there and some gaming would require speakers. Even though not having a speaker is not a deal breaker but would have been nice.
Overall, this is a solid monitor, it nails the core experience with great visuals and modern design. This monitor is a powerhouse for professionals, creatives, and even casual users who want top-tier visuals and functionality.

As one would expect at 37 inches, this LED VA monitor is large but has a thin bezel, which helps. Setting up is easy as support twists into the base which then clicks onto the monitor, all while monitor is still in the box. Making it easy to get it all put together before lifting out of the box. Unwrap all the protective film and just plug it in (5 ft power cord with no brick).
There is an array of settings easily accessed by the control panel stick shift located in middle and behind bottom of screen. Primary settings are Power LED (little light on/off), Function Key Guide, Source, Menu, Power off and Return. Most lead you to additional settings as well. There are a lot of options so suffice it to say you can tune it to your preferences, with a lot of them mirroring your TV screen options. Personally, I use my GPU options for most monitor color settings, etc. I do suggest going to the website and downloading the user guide.
The 4k resolution (3840 x 2160) looks great but does seem to wash out if viewing from more than 45% angle or so – up/down or side to side. Streaming 4k content as well as day-to-day usage for docs, surfing, etc. all looked great. I did encounter an issue where the screen would continually darken unless a window was active, etc. I had to change the HDR tone mapping to static to solve (took a little digging to find). My 9-year-old grandson played Minecraft and wanted to take it home with him. It supports HDR10 with 60Hz refresh rate and 350 nits. FreeSync and g-Synch are not supported.
Having adjustable height/tilt/swivels makes it extremely easy to get perfect position for viewing. You cannot rotate from landscape to portrait as some smaller Samsung monitors do.
It has 1 HDMI and 1 DisplayPort connection and comes with 58-inch HDMI cable.
Matte black screen provides virtually no glare.
Extra Goodies;
No built-in speakers but has headphone jack
1 ethernet connection
3 USB-A 3.0 connections
1 USB-C 3.0 connection that comes with a 39-inch cable. This has multiple uses and can charge to 90w while also allowing data transfer (using USB-A), as an extension monitor as well as ethernet connection. I connected to 3 laptops using USB-C (different manufacturers), and all were able to use this connection to connect to the internet (3/4 download speed of wired directly 215 vs 340 but same 34 upload) - also transferred files from/to laptops using monitors USB-A (about 50% speed if connected directly to laptop, see pics) while also extending display. Need to ensure monitor setting USB-C connection is set to data. Received low charge warning on gaming laptop as 90w was too low for charge. I also connected to my Samsung S23 phone and after turning off Dex (I hate it) was able to duplicate the screen and stream while also charging phone.
I tried 2 desktops using USB-C connection and while it indicated they were connected – monitor didn’t recognize them. I looked at BIOS, etc. and could not find any issues. But it could be an operator error.
These extras are all nice but would have been great if connections were on the stand. I left the USB-C cable connected and attached a 3ft USB-A extension cable and they work well when needed.
3-year warranty
This is the first VA monitor I have used, and while it does have great colors the washing out of screen is not great. This could be an issue if you are viewing content with others, which isn’t an issue for me. Overall, there is an awful lot to like about this monitor especially if you plan on using it with a laptop. It is now my main monitor in group of 3 and would recommend.

Massive, High Resolution + Many Built In Features!

The Samsung S80UD 4K UHD HDR10 High Resolution Monitor has all the features that one may wish for in a single package to help simply any given workspace… or casual viewing experience.
In the Box:
- Monitor
- Quick Assemble Stand (Height, Tilt adjustable)
- HDMI Cable
- USB-C to USB-C Cable
- Power Cable (Clever Design!)
- Manuals
Assembly:
Samsung makes the assembly process as easy as possible. The stand comes well packaged in two pieces. Simply twist the upright portion into the base until it clicks, hook the top of the monitor onto the backplate of the stand, and lower it down until you hear it click. That’s it! I will say due to the large 37” size of this monitor (they also sell it in smaller screen sizes) it can make leveling the monitor perfectly a little difficult. Luckily there is enough play in the stand to be able to adjust as needed but if it gets bumped you will likely have to readjust as needed.
Usage:
Immediately after setup I noticed the vast number of inputs and outputs available on this monitor. This is one of the features that makes it so versatile and why it can help simply your space if you don’t want a dual monitor setup OR want to consolidate your laptop connection to one single cable. The built-in monitor menu is controlled via a joystick on the backside directly in the center. I appreciate Samsung locating it in the center as it makes finding the controls simple from the front.
The inputs/outputs available on this monitor include:
- 1x HDMI 2.0
- 1x DisplayPort 1.2
- 1x USB-C (90W Power + Data)
- 1x Ethernet (Network)
- 1x USB-B
- 1x 3.5mm Headphone Jack (Output)
- 3x USB-A (One Service Only)
What’s unique about this Monitor is the built in KVM Switch that allows two inputs to be simultaneously shown and switched between on the monitor itself. There are two modes for this feature including Picture In Picture and Picture By Picture. One splits the screen evenly and displays them side by side while the other allows you to position one input over the other in a smaller portion of the screen. While testing the monitor, I have used the HDMI, DisplayPort, and USB-C and everything works seamlessly. If you have a wired internet connection at your workspace, the RJ-45 connection can be hooked to the monitor and all you need is the USB-C cable connected to your computer/laptop to charge and transfer data between the devices. This makes hookup up and powering a laptop a breeze and keeps your area free of cables.
If you want to use this monitor with external audio, you can use the 3.5mm headphone jack, Bluetooth audio on your computer, or via HDMI with a soundbar or other device that has e-ARC capability. This made connecting my Samsung Soundbar and Google TV 4K very easy, but it will require two HDMI cables to do so. The display is so large that is makes watching content on it for pleasure very nice as well.
Picture:
The picture quality of the monitor is also one of the biggest reasons to consider it although it would be nice to have a higher refresh rate for gaming. The 37” 4K display provides a PPI or Pixel Density of 119 which more than that of a QHD 27” monitor and you’re getting so much more screen real estate. The S80UD also support HDR10 and up to 1.07 billion colors. It is truly impressive how bright, vivid, and fairly accurate this monitor’s picture is compared to more basic displays. This is still a regular LED backlit panel so don’t expect inky blacks from OLED’s or full array displays but with the available adjustment you can dial it in to your liking. It is also limited to 60Hz refresh rate so if you’re into gaming, it may impact your gaming performance.
Overall:
Despite having a standard refresh rate of 60Hz and only one HDMI input, the Samsung S80UD has truly been a pleasure to use. With the 4k UHD HDR10 support, it makes streaming content from your computer or streaming device very nice to watch. The KVM Switch is a unique feature I haven’t used before but make keeping this monitor connected to two devices at once very convenient and adds productivity capability if you need to display both of those devices at one time. I would highly recommend checking out this monitor if you want a large, high resolution display with so many built in functions and docking capabilities.

One of the best all-around LED monitors I've seen

PROS:
Detailed picture (It can't be said enough how nice the picture looks on this thing)
Price (currently on sale for $449)
Fully adjustable stand included
HDR10
USB-C (90 watt charging)
CONS:
Limited HDMI inputs (I'd like to hook up multiple devices)
No speakers or audio input (although this would affect the nice aesthetic)
No remote
We've finally reached a point where high quality monitors are no longer outrageously priced. Gone are the days when you had to spend over $1,000 for a larger monitor that meets your needs. While the Samsung S8OUD isn't an OLED screen, it offers a great alternative at nearly half the price. According to Samsung, this LED monitor "boasts 1.07 billion colors and HDR10 support, delivering a rich array of hues and true-to-life color representation." While that may be clever marketing points, I can see for myself that the contrast is impressive. It provides deep blacks along with vibrant brights. Although the blacks may not be as perfectly dark as those on OLED screens, they are far from washed out or gray, unlike some of the LED monitors I've used in the past.
The colors are not only lively but also incredibly accurate, bringing photographs and films very little to improve on. The image quality is clear and detailed. Every detail stands out clearly and sharply, whether I'm working, writing, gaming, browsing, or enjoying streaming. HDR10 on this works very well.
What truly distinguishes this monitor is its impressive clarity and detail, thanks to its 4K high resolution. It has transformed our covered patio into a fantastic workspace, making me feel less cooped up than I do in the office. Luckily, we have some shade, so there is no chance of a bright glare coming from the screen. I didn't need to max the brightness to see clearly.
For entertainment purposes, the monitor has been awesome. It's replacing a Samsung TV we purchased back in 2012! While just about anything modern would be an improvement, the picture quality is night and day. Movies and video games look outstanding. I'm able to dock my Steam Deck, and my son loves to dock his Switch out there for family Mario Kart. The depth of detail and color saturation provide a picture that draws me in entirely. There are nuances I had previously overlooked.
The monitor's monitor is just as impressive as its performance. With its sleek, modern aesthetics and ultra-thin bezels, it looks great pretty much anywhere you set it. Setting it up was easy, and the user interface was user-friendly, allowing me to navigate the menu options without any trouble. The stand is fantastic, too, as it allows you to rotate the screen diagonally while also providing tilt adjustment. It's so much better than my TV, which was on a nonadjustable stand.
There are only a few gripes I have with this monitor, and most of those would require it to be more expensive. For example, I'd love for it to have a remote. Any monitor nowadays should include one because so many of us are using them as streaming sources. Additionally, I'd appreciate more HDMI inputs, allowing me to connect multiple devices without needing to unplug and replug when switching between them. At least one more would have been nice for a monitor costing over $500. There are no onboard speakers, which is to be expected for a monitor this thin. However, for a monitor without speakers, I'm bummed it didn't have any good way to plug in speakers other than the headphone input. I ended up using bluetooth from my devices, but not everything may have that feature to use.

This monitor has lots of screen space, but at what point do you just use a nice TV as a computer monitor? I also have a 32inch gaming screen for a different computer and that makes sense for gaming and feels like the right size, were as this one seems a touch to big.
Setup was a total breeze, connect the stand to the base, connect monitor to stand no tools needed. The stand provides for lots of adjustments from moving the screen up and down, left and right, and tilt up and down. The tilt up and down requires both hands and it's best to grab from the top and bottom of the screen and not the left and right side as that cause the screen to flex a lot.
The best part of this monitor is the built-in docking station. We connected a wireless mouse and keyboard and ethernet and it was all setup for anyone to use. We tested on an HP and Lenovo, and both had no problems connecting to the screen and the keyboard/mouse and internet all worked flawlessly. The docking station even charges the laptop, so this is a total replacement for a docking station.
This monitor does not have built in speakers, which I understand but seems like it should have a Mic, speakers, and even a camera. This would then be a complete work from home package and would be great for anyone.
I will say for work the matte screen is really nice and helps with glare. However, the matte screen really mutes colors. My laptop has a 4k glossy screen and the colors just pop and everything looks beautiful. This monitor with settings setup the same, the colors don't pop and look a little flat. If you are using this as a work monitor, this is not an issue as the screen is easy on the eyes and causes little fatigue. If you plant to use this for work/videos/photo editing, I would look at something else that might have more vibrant colors.
The built-in docking station makes this monitor worth it, and I hope other companies start adding this feature to their monitors. If I had to do this over again, I would probably go down a size as this is just a touch too big for my needs. If you work from home and need an all-in-one monitor, docking station, etc this monitor would be a great purchase.

A Great Monitor Option

I didn't want to have to buy this monitor - dropped my other one (!?!) while adjusting it during a work day - so I was panicked and this model was available at the local Best Buy. I've had Samsung monitors for years, but for the last five years they've been curved while this one isn't. Wasn't sure how I'd like it and now I can attest that I'm unabashedly a huge fan: this monitor is excellent! It's large (which is imperative for a near-sighted person like me), it's clear and it's easy to set up. The reason I ended up with it may have sucked, but this monitor is great and I'm very, very excited to use it: I can see and do so much with it (because it's so large that I can work on windows on a side-by-side basis or stream something in a way that's basically like a TV...). I recommend it highly.

I replaced a 32" Samsung 4K monitor with this bad boy (for my M4 Mac mini, and those extra 5" make a difference when editing photos, etc.
Make sure you fine tune the display via the built-in menu as well as your PC / Mac settings. Right out of the box, it looks kind of "neutral" because that's basically how it's set from the factory. It makes a world of difference after you set everything correctly.
One key feature is the adjustable stand. It pretty much adjusts every which way possible, making this very flexible depending on your height, room on your desk, etc.
$599 was a little steep, but I am thinking it'll go on sale within 60 days and I'll just submit a price match.

It's an awesome monitor, I definitely recommend it! I use it for my work as a web designer, and I need ample space for all the windows I have open. Als,o the colors are so neat and they are very similar to my MacBook Pro!
