Great TV

I am a Samsung fan, so when looking for a new TV to replace my old TV (a very old boxy flat screen), I went straight to this brand. It has a beautiful picture, and great sound. I got the 40" which is perfect size for my bedroom. Very easy to set up and light weight as well. I do think Best Buy needs to display them better. I understand they would rather sell the bigger TV's but I noticed the picture was actually better when I got it home and plugged it into an HDMI cable.

I Like it but wonder if I shoulda bought the Sony

First of all, let me say that I shopped for months before buying the TV. I read so many different reviews of many different models before narrowing my choices down to the Samsung J6300 or the Sony 50w800B, which was available online only when I was in the market, so unfortunately I was not able to view the Sony KDL 50w800B, but Best buy did have the KDLw800C on display, which seemed far too dim for me to consider, In fact almost all the Sony TV's appeared far too dim unless you went to the higher end models, which were out of my price range. I also considered the Sony KDL48w600 which also got great reviews but unfortunately looked a bit too dim for my liking. I really wanted to get a Sony because my main desires in a TV were a beautiful picture first and secondly a TV that was going to last me for many years to come. Sony seemed to have the reliability factor built in but at the cost of being too dim. Samsung had many conflicting reviews from different consumers over the years, mostly positive. Plus I have always wanted a Samsung. But here's the thing:
My last TV was a 2007 Magnavox LCD 32"" TV that was a fabulous super reliable TV that only broke down once. I loved my Magnavox TCV, especially because it had a GREAT sharp picture and lasted me for so many years. So I was definitely looking for a RELIABLE TV and did much research before buying to try to understand if a Samsung TV would provide me similar reliability. My dad has a large older Samsung TV that has lasted several years which I believe was what led me to finally decide that I was going to go for the Samsung.
So here I sit with my new Samsung j6300 TV . When I first turned it on, I was not very crazy about it. Seems like sometimes many people faces looks distorted or unnatural. The picture looks good although perhaps not as clear and sharp as my Magnavox TV used to be. Although, as I have spent more time with the TV, I am getting more and more used to it and like it more and more. Graphics shots on TV that use letters come across as very very sharp and refined. The whites and blacks are very deep and nice looking. It's more how the people look that concern me. They people look a bit odd, especially their faces. The shots could be clearer. Some shots are clearer than others. Maybe it's just that I have never owned a TV this large and perhaps it is harder for a larger TV to process clearly peoples faces in great detail when the shots change so fast. I don't know. I just kind of prefer the picture on my old Magnavox sometimes as it seemed clearer overall. That's not supposed to happen. But it is what it is. I do like it and am enjoying the TV though. But a big part of me wonders what could have been if i had bought the Sony KDL-w800B that was available online only. It was supposedly brighter than the 800C that was in the Best Buy stores so it might have worked for me, after all. There was just no way to be sure so I went with the Samsung j6300 because I had seen the picture with my own eyes. It was a tough call to make.
Here is my main concern with this TV. Although the picture is pleasing and all, I honestly don't believe this TV will last me through the years. I could be wrong about this and I hope I am! But I do believe this TV will last for a year or two then the backlight issues or whatever will start as it has for other people. I do not have faith in the reliability of the new line of Samsung TV's. I think Samsung used to make more reliable TV's but I feel as if corners are being cut by installing inferior non-Samsung panels on the lower models and I dunno, I just am of the opinion that this TV isn't going to last very long; in which case I will be crying and wishing I had bought the Sony, if that happens. I will update my review over time, if Best buy doesn't take it down..
By the way, I went to Best buy many times before buying the TV on Arden Way in Sacramento and I was more or less ignored and treated poorly by one team member in particular. When he found out it was going to be 3 weeks before I bought a TV, he lost interest in helping me much beyond that. And when I would come in on other occasions he would also ignore me and when I did corner him on rare occasion to ask a few questions, he acted kind of bothered. Other employees were also around sometimes but they were almost always busy with other customers and I couldn't get the help I needed. A coupled of times, a few well-meaning employees tried to help me out but they lacked the real product knowledge to truly answer my in depth questions, except for the one guy who would avoid me. I was praying the day I came back to buy the TV I would get a different employee to buy from but of course it was the same kinda jerky employee who had been avoiding me and ignoring me. I had no choice but to deal with him. At least he got me in and out pretty quick. Bleh.I sure hope this Samsung TV lasts but as of right now, I have no faith in its long-term reliability and kinda wish I had bought the Sony so I could be more assured of its reliability over time. I am afraid to keep the TV on while I am asleep or working in another room, like I like to do, because I am afraid it will only have a short life and by having it on while I am asleep, I am already using up some of its precious life. I never used to worry about that with my Magnavox. Hmm.. Do yourself a huge favor and get yourself a Squaretrade warranty for 3 years when you buy this TV. Square trade will reimburse you in full quickly if the TV fails. DO NOT BUY A GEEK SQUAD EXTENDED WARRANTY! I did that years ago with a receiver I purchased from Beat buy and it was a complete nightmare once the receiver started having problems. Never again will I buy an extended warranty through Best Buy. But Squaretrade is a great company to get an extended warranty through. I cannot stress enough that I do believe you might need the extended warranty as this TV may not be reliable over time. We shall see!

This tv does everything you would expect it to for the price. My only complaint is that it does not come with an ir blaster so you can use your Samsung remote to control you cable box.

Careful on Samsung TVs. Had bad screen hardware and local authorized Samsung technician state that it's not worth replacing the screen itself.

I like the computer but the hard drive crashed for no reason. I brought it in for repair "free" got a call a week later to come pick it up. guy opens computer completely broken screen and keyboard, it looked like it was smashed. No damage to anything when I dropped it off. Needless to say I got a brand new computer. Best Buy guys very nice though no one knows how my computer got smashed or why the hard drive crashed

Only giving it a 1 star because it had a hole in the screen when I opened it. I have two other Samsung's and they work great.

After returning the Samsung UN40J6200AFXZA Model due to a black uniformity defect, I exchanged it for this Model for less than a $100 more. I must say after setting it up I was very impressed, It' just wonderful. The picture and firmware are way better than the J6200 in my opinion and the bezel doesn't feel like some lower end T.V you would buy at Walmart (nothing against Walmart). The best part was the service and exchange process. If you get this T.V I seriously think you wouldn't be disappointed.
After looking on Samsung's website, I couldn't find this T.V (probably because it's only sold by Best Buy) But if you you're looking for the Manual and Update? You'll find it under owners and support. But here's a direct link to the page http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/UN40J6300AFXZA

LOVE MY SMART TV

I did a lot of research, read a lot of reviews before I decided on my tv purchase. I had several things I was told to specifically look for in looking for a good tv...at least a 1080 resolution, 120hz or better, LED, Flatscreen...and this is what I kept coming back to. I cannot speak for anyone else but myself...I love it! I had heard both good and bad on Samsung tvs, etc. but I have had nothing but positive results with mine. The size is perfect in my bedroom, the sound quality is really good, and everyone (besides me) that has watched it says the quality of the picture is great also. If I had the chance to do it over, I'd still choose this same tv.

After researching Sony 40" & Samsung TV's-this one turned out to be tops. The sound is what won me over the Sony. The Sony models had a hollow/tinny alarm clock quality sound. This Samsung actually sounded great and had bass & depth. No sound bar needed. I use the movie sound setting for the best sound. Great picture & sound!. Highly recommend this set. Don't hesitate-buy it.

I have not had any issues connecting to the wifi. The streaming of shows on Netflix, AmazonPrime, HBO have been constant. I have not yet had it buffer even once. However a previous smart tv that this one replaced (was not a samsung) and dropped network connectivity while streaming videos all the time. The placement is the same for this samsung tv ( on the same wall mount) and no issues so far. Great picture quality, continuous network connectivity. Both these qualities mattered to me as i do not have a cable tv subscription.

On 12/9/2015, I was a victim of a home invasion. Thugs stole everything including my excellent 40" Samsung tv that I bought several years ago for $1000. I purchased this Samsung for half the price and it is even better than my old one.
On 12/21/15, I got some great news, Detectives busted both thugs, got confessions and I will be getting my property back tonight.
Happy Holidays.

My first HDTV is great!

I had an old 24" tube TV. This 40" Samsung gives the picture that I was hoping for from an HDTV. I am not good at hooking up electronics but I followed the owner's manual and had no issues. The only thing that I could not figure out was how to change channels using the Samsung remote. So I called Time Warner [my cable company] who said that because Time Warner requires subscribers with my level of cable service [Standard package] to use the "adapter" [that Time Warner provides to us customers] to convert the cable transmission to digital, that I still had to use the remote from Time Warner to change channels. I had been using the Time Warner remote so this was no problem to me, and the Samsung remote can be used for all other functions.

AWESOME PICTURE

The picture on this is outstanding. However, I'm of the belief that possibly all smart tvs are not as smart as a Roku when it comes to streaming. I'm trying hard to become a cable cutter.
This is the 2015 model with a new operating system - and one of my favorite and essential apps (Plex# is not ported for it - and no one at Samsung can tell me if and when it will be. It was in the 2014 model, but I wanted the latest #the J Model).
So I had to buy another Roku to put in front of it to get what I needed.
