Turned out, the set up was more difficult than it needed to be and after about 30 days the remote channel change and number buttons didn't communicate with the TV. The volume and other buttons continued to work.

Thank you for purchasing the Samsung TU7000 TV. I am very sorry that you are experiencing issues with your remote. There are a number of reasons why your remote may not be working. The most common are physical damage, battery issues, pairing issues, or issues with the infrared sensor on the remote or TV. You may want to try the following troubleshooting steps.
1) Reset the remote by removing the batteries & pressing Power for 8 seconds. Then reinsert the batteries.
2) Check to see if the remote is sending/receiving an infrared signal. You can check whether the signal is being transmitted by pressing the power button and observing the front tip of the remote control through the camera on your smartphone.

Now it turns on an off but the picture never come on. YES I have unplugged and plugged it back in - didn't help. So now I will go through the repair process. I will report back on how that goes. The TV is 9 months old - bought it back in May 2020 from the store in Winder Garden, FL.
