Great 2018 Entry Level 4K TV

It was time to replace my old 4K TV. There was a lot of choices but I didn't need a premium TV for my bedroom. I chose this set over the competitors because it was within my price range on sale for around $500 and I liked the way it looked on display. There is a lot to like about this set and I will list it below.
Pros:
- This is a 2018 Samsung 4K TV
- HDR 10 support
Slim & lightweight just a little over 20lbs (43 inch model)
- All 3 hdmi ports support HDR
- Has the essential apps in the app store for TV, Movies & Music
Cons:
- No headphone jack (no analog audio output)
- No bluetooth
- No local dimming
- No 5ghz wifi (I ended up hard wiring instead)
- TV speakers aren't the best but that is common with most TV'S
- Average picture quality in bright environments
- Not enough apps the ecosystem is lacking (Roku & Android TV offers more apps)
Colors on this tv set aren't bad they could be brighter and more vivid but then again this is an entry level TV not an OLED. Picture quality suffers when viewing at an angle. Overall this set is a good set for the price. It has 4K, good amount of inputs, Wish it had more apps but it does the job, it has Sling, Netflix, HBO & etc. This is fixed easily by adding a streaming box of your choice. Be sure to pick up a sound bar you will be glad you did.
I was pleasantly surprised to see Steam link on this TV, being able to play your steam library on the big screen is awesome. I am not sure if wireless game controllers work on this I will have to try it out. Do some research and be sure to calibrate your picture settings to your liking. After calibration I am pleased with the results no saturated or exaggerated colors. Gaming is a pleasant experience just be sure to turn on game mode.
If you have a bigger budget or just want a better TV go with the Samsung Q6F it has VRR/Fresync for the Xbox One S & Xbox One X.

Can't beat an the price on this open box 2160p TV

Bought this last month as an open box that was solely missing the remote. Currently using an old Android phone with an IR transmitted for that. My laptop's RTX 2060 is a perfect match for this TV, despite some acceptable short comings.
Getting Win 10 to output properly at 2160p@60 4:4:4 was a small struggle, but it all worked out fine in the end.
Is the RU7100 newer, yes.
Can the RU7100 do 1440p@60, yes.
Could I have gotten the RU7100 for the $180 I paid for this unit, NO.
While I would have loved a 40" set that also handled 1440p, I don't regret this purchase one bit.
Thx, BB.

Bought this TV for my bedroom. The picture is excellent from the front view but from the side it loses color. This is my first high definition television. I didn’t want to spend a lot of money. This television has a lot of great functions in a very easy remote control. It is highly recommended.

I bought this tv mid October 2018, it’s now February and there is a black shadow across the left half of the screen which does not go away, even with a reset. I’m so disappointed with my purchase....I do not recommend this product...
Again, I am very sorry for the inconveniences you have had, and hope that we will hear from you soon.

I picked it up at BestBuy after purchasing online. Well packaged...no signs of mishandling. Once everything was out on the carpeted floor, assembly was intuitive and easy. Hookup to Comcast Xfinity box was also simple as this TV was replacing an older Panasonic flat panel model. HDMI connection was simple as were the connections for DVD player. It didn't take long to get into 'settings' using the remote and identifying Comcast as the source. The 'out-of-the-box' settings for color seemed to be right-on as were the settings for sound.
Now that we've used the new Samsung 43", we could not be more pleased. We have other TVs in the house, but this one is more like sitting down in a theater. Details are crisp. Colors are life-like. The remote could be a little heftier--more like the Comcast Xfinity remote which allows most all buttons to be accessed while holding in one hand and using thumb to select each one. Overall, we are very pleased with this purchase and with BestBuy customer assistance at the point-of-sale.

Had to return the first one (43 inch) after 4 calls to Samsung couldn't resolve issue. WiFi constantly lost its connection, then couldn't find any SSIDs until I cycled power by unplugging. Second TV purchase works fine and looks and sounds good. Minor off axis viewing degradation, lacks blue tooth and 3.5mm audio jack. Good connections otherwise with three HDMIs (one with ARC) and included 2 dongles for one RCA type connector video and audio connection to older equipment. I primarily use an antenna signal for viewing. Connected a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse effortlessly via the USB. Also purchased same model 50 inch TV with all the same features but the 50 inch sound quality is poor compared to this one which leads me to conclude (along with previous WiFi issue) that there may be quality issues with this model regardless of size. Not fond of the intrusive app focused home screen. Dropped a star due to quality issues experienced and lacking audio connections mentioned above.

This tv looks and sounds great. Set up was extremely easy, but color adjustment was a little challenging. HDR setting was hard to find. Best feature is Screen mirroring, which allows you to view content from your cell phone to your tv. Despite being a little pricey (2018 model), I love this tv!

Most all of the new technology works on TVs 50" and larger. This means there are plenty of deals and steals on smaller sets for bedrooms, kids play area etc. This Samsung is such a find, once you get it calibrated to your liking it is good to go with a stunning picture quality and decent sound. I only have two concerns, the first applies to all TVs smaller than 50", listen to the sound quality of the set, many companies now have very weak or very poor quality in the sound area. This forces you into buying a sound bar often costing more than the TV!!!! Do not fall into this trap! Look and listen to all brands, (kick it up loud!!!) you want 10w speakers 20w is better, this samsung has 10w which can work for a bedroom. This biggest bummer on this set is the angle of view changes a lot as you move away from the center of the set. If two people watch this TV, one from a chair and one from a bed with the TV facing directly at the bed viewer, the person is the chair is going to have a not so pleasant viewing experience. This is just the way these sets are now days, probably the higher tech TVs have a better field of view buy you got to go 50" and larger.
I would stick with only Samsung, LG or Sony on a smaller than 50" set.

This flat screen TV was purchased as an upgrade for an old non-HD TV. We were thrilled with the picture, color and clarity at a reasonable price. It will be used in a small family room so we did not need a " home movie theater" size and grade at the requisite higher price tag. We feel this model and size was the perfect choice for our situation. Kudos to the sales person for his patience and expertise. Great product, but absolutely needs a sound bar because the backward mounted speakers in the TV were pathetic.

Picture is amazing. Especially when hooked to the hd devices. Xbox, bluray, some of the channels that are broadcast in h.d. This samsung also learns your devices, meaning the tv remote can operate your blurays and such. The processor is also very fast. Haven'thad any buffering while on netflix or amazon tv.
Wound up going with samsung, (which is my first samsung) because i went through two vizio 43" tv with the same specs. And both of them had to be returned. So i didnt want to drive back out a third time for another lemon. The first vizio i returned had a bad #2 hdmi port. And the second one i took back had lines that would flicker on the screen. Looked almost like watching a bad vhs tape.
So i went samsung and im glad i did. And the price difference was another $110 for the Samsung and it is money VERY WELL SPENT.
Not trying to bash vizios name, i still have three older ones for the other living rooms and kids rooms. And they have all been great. But be wary of their new ultra 4k tv's.

This is a great TV for the price. Nice color and dimension for HD. Easy to use and set up. If you don't want to spend a lot on a bedroom TV this one is perfect because the quality is excellent and the size, 43" is great on the wall.

After purchasing a Samsung TV for the living room, we felt it was time to upgrade our 15 year old SDTv (non-HD) in the master bedroom. This Samsung 43” Smart TV was exactly what we needed. The picture is nothing short of spectacular and having our favorite apps readily available at our fingertips was just the icing on the cake. Christmas is coming so we’re looking forward to replacing the kids TV’s with Samsung sets this year. Great TV, great company.

If you want a TV that does it all but won't break the bank at $1500+ due to the size then this is the TV for you. At 43" it is a screen size that won't make you pan back and forth with your eyes but not make you squint to make out some images here and there. Probably the best TV I've bought in years. The 4K HDR functionality is great. Smart TV functions work fine but my only gripe is the whole making accounts for this stuff however I guess it can't be helped. The sound on this is fine. The brightness on this will handle a well lit room but you will have problems with reflections from your window or something else. Not a biggie but just something to note as some TVs have more of a matte finish so it isn't as reflective. I've been impressed with this TV since I bought it and even though the price has dropped this is one of the very few times I don't feel like I lost out on my money's worth. I compared this with the Sony equivalent from about a year ago and while the Sony is much more and provides a more natural picture I am more than content with losing out on the color accuracy for more pronounced colors because sometimes that HDR just works against you anyways. Great bang for my buck and after nearly a year of ownership the only issue I've had was it froze once or twice. As far as the smart TV stuff, if you want snappy then get an external device but if you can put up with not having snappy and a few second delays here and there this will be fine. Once it gets to doing what you want it to do there are no issues.

Would love to give it 5 stars but -
*it doesn't come with Bluetooth for headphones, needed to add converter
*had to search for the initial set up, once there it was easy. Directions were confusing because it's for a few models but doesn't say exactly which is which
*speakers are not facing toward viewer, but sound is good
Found my call outs unusual since Samsung is usually pretty thorough.
Let me say the picture is very good and so was the price. I would recommend others to pay a little more and getting it all included

The 7100 series is the best you can get from Samsung in a 43”.
I always opt for higher end tv’s in any brands lineup, especially if you are looking for the best picture quality.
4K is only a marketing tool and the lower end sets never deliver the detail and clarity that is presented in top tier sets.
Out of the box the picture quality looked flat and unrealistic. I went into settings to tweak and customize the picture to my standard of brightness, color and contrast. Don’t be afraid to play with the settings, you can always change back to default settings if you want to start over. The movie, dynamic or natural settings just didn’t give the picture a bright natural color image so had to go deeper
I’ve always had good experience with Samsung tv’s. Only departure from Samsung was the purchase of the Sony OLED XBR 65” A1E.
