Great 2018 Entry Level 4K TV

It was time to replace my old 4K TV. There was a lot of choices but I didn't need a premium TV for my bedroom. I chose this set over the competitors because it was within my price range on sale for around $500 and I liked the way it looked on display. There is a lot to like about this set and I will list it below. Pros: - This is a 2018 Samsung 4K TV - HDR 10 support Slim & lightweight just a little over 20lbs (43 inch model) - All 3 hdmi ports support HDR - Has the essential apps in the app store for TV, Movies & Music Cons: - No headphone jack (no analog audio output) - No bluetooth - No local dimming - No 5ghz wifi (I ended up hard wiring instead) - TV speakers aren't the best but that is common with most TV'S - Average picture quality in bright environments - Not enough apps the ecosystem is lacking (Roku & Android TV offers more apps) Colors on this tv set aren't bad they could be brighter and more vivid but then again this is an entry level TV not an OLED. Picture quality suffers when viewing at an angle. Overall this set is a good set for the price. It has 4K, good amount of inputs, Wish it had more apps but it does the job, it has Sling, Netflix, HBO & etc. This is fixed easily by adding a streaming box of your choice. Be sure to pick up a sound bar you will be glad you did. I was pleasantly surprised to see Steam link on this TV, being able to play your steam library on the big screen is awesome. I am not sure if wireless game controllers work on this I will have to try it out. Do some research and be sure to calibrate your picture settings to your liking. After calibration I am pleased with the results no saturated or exaggerated colors. Gaming is a pleasant experience just be sure to turn on game mode. If you have a bigger budget or just want a better TV go with the Samsung Q6F it has VRR/Fresync for the Xbox One S & Xbox One X.

Looks pretty, but occasional screen blackouts

I want to keep this to-the-point and acknowledge my subjective experience. I bought this TV last month as a college graduation gift to myself after doing some research. I wasn't planning to drop more than $500 on a TV (I bought this for $379), and anything bigger than 43" was going to be too big for my room. I wasn't expecting this TV to be a huge upgrade from my old 1080p Insignia TV, but I was pleasantly surprised with vibrant colors and crisp images, especially with my new PS4 Pro. The only problem that I've had with this TV, and while it has only happened to me twice, is that the screen has gone black for a few seconds and given me the loading dial while playing video games. Again, out of the one month I've had it, this has only happened twice (both while offline gaming on my PS4 Pro). I remembered reading a review before buying this TV that someone had almost the exact same instance about it going black, but I wrote it off as just somebody complaining about something very rare and what was probably a result of their own incompetency with modern tech. After this had happened to me the second time (which was last night 01/01/19) I became really nervous. I did a little research and moved my PS4 Pro to the HDMI 2 input, and we'll see if this makes a difference. If Samsung sees this and helps me fix it, I would be happy to change this to a five-star review and refer a friend. I'm just disappointed that my first 4KTV is having the same issue that I saw someone else in the review section have. TLDR; Pros: Picture is crisp and vibrant. Game-mode option under "external devices manager" looks great with my PS4 Pro. Easy UI. Easily mountable. Cons: On two different occasions the past month, the screen has gone black and given me a loading dial for a few seconds, both of which occurred while playing my PS4 Pro. (One occasion occured right during a QTE in my game and made me lose)

If you want a TV that does it all but won't break the bank at $1500+ due to the size then this is the TV for you. At 43" it is a screen size that won't make you pan back and forth with your eyes but not make you squint to make out some images here and there. Probably the best TV I've bought in years. The 4K HDR functionality is great. Smart TV functions work fine but my only gripe is the whole making accounts for this stuff however I guess it can't be helped. The sound on this is fine. The brightness on this will handle a well lit room but you will have problems with reflections from your window or something else. Not a biggie but just something to note as some TVs have more of a matte finish so it isn't as reflective. I've been impressed with this TV since I bought it and even though the price has dropped this is one of the very few times I don't feel like I lost out on my money's worth. I compared this with the Sony equivalent from about a year ago and while the Sony is much more and provides a more natural picture I am more than content with losing out on the color accuracy for more pronounced colors because sometimes that HDR just works against you anyways. Great bang for my buck and after nearly a year of ownership the only issue I've had was it froze once or twice. As far as the smart TV stuff, if you want snappy then get an external device but if you can put up with not having snappy and a few second delays here and there this will be fine. Once it gets to doing what you want it to do there are no issues.

Great TV but serious side angle viewing washout

We needed to replace our old Samsung UN39FH6000FXZA for our bedroom as it prematurely died. That TV had Samsung's Wide Color Enhancer and the viewing angle and color consistency was top notch. So we went back to our trusted Best Buy partner and decided to upgrade to the NU437100 series. It cost a little more than other Samsung's in stock but we felt it would be worth it in the long run. Well we were wrong. We put the NU7100 in the same corner of our bedroom since we had limited other options. The color washout was terrible and even got worst when the angle viewing increased. We did our home work on this TV and consumer report rated it in the top 10 of 43 in sets. They did mention the viewing angle was an issue but it was far worse than stated. We were obviously disappointed so we went back to Best Buy and explained the situation. They told us we could return it, as expected, so we swapped it out for a new Sony XBR43X800E. Don't get me wrong we love Samsung products but they have limited 43 in options. The new Sony works great and no viewing issues. As a long time customer of Best Buy they came through for us again. We got a lemon and they stood behind us and made it right. Thanks Best Buy.

Most all of the new technology works on TVs 50" and larger. This means there are plenty of deals and steals on smaller sets for bedrooms, kids play area etc. This Samsung is such a find, once you get it calibrated to your liking it is good to go with a stunning picture quality and decent sound. I only have two concerns, the first applies to all TVs smaller than 50", listen to the sound quality of the set, many companies now have very weak or very poor quality in the sound area. This forces you into buying a sound bar often costing more than the TV!!!! Do not fall into this trap! Look and listen to all brands, (kick it up loud!!!) you want 10w speakers 20w is better, this samsung has 10w which can work for a bedroom. This biggest bummer on this set is the angle of view changes a lot as you move away from the center of the set. If two people watch this TV, one from a chair and one from a bed with the TV facing directly at the bed viewer, the person is the chair is going to have a not so pleasant viewing experience. This is just the way these sets are now days, probably the higher tech TVs have a better field of view buy you got to go 50" and larger. I would stick with only Samsung, LG or Sony on a smaller than 50" set. Moonpie001

I picked it up at BestBuy after purchasing online. Well packaged...no signs of mishandling. Once everything was out on the carpeted floor, assembly was intuitive and easy. Hookup to Comcast Xfinity box was also simple as this TV was replacing an older Panasonic flat panel model. HDMI connection was simple as were the connections for DVD player. It didn't take long to get into 'settings' using the remote and identifying Comcast as the source. The 'out-of-the-box' settings for color seemed to be right-on as were the settings for sound. Now that we've used the new Samsung 43", we could not be more pleased. We have other TVs in the house, but this one is more like sitting down in a theater. Details are crisp. Colors are life-like. The remote could be a little heftier--more like the Comcast Xfinity remote which allows most all buttons to be accessed while holding in one hand and using thumb to select each one. Overall, we are very pleased with this purchase and with BestBuy customer assistance at the point-of-sale.

    HDMI3 (ARC) issue

I purchased this 43" TV in mid February 2019 and the identical 50" model in May, along with two sound bars in April. The TV's HDMI3 (ARC) connection to the Samsung HW-K460/ZA sound bar is not working properly. For the first 10 days the tv remote would turn ON the sound bar, now it only turns it OFF. The sound bars both work perfectly with the Samsung 50" TV, and both remotes work perfectly with the 50" TV. Changing to the Digital Audio cable and setting the sound bar setting to Auto Power On did not solve the issue either. I have spent several hours on online chats and on the phone with both Best Buy and Samsung. The TV is past Best Buys 15 day return policy, so I am stuck with the manufacturer warranty, or paying Geek Squad $99 to diagnose the issue. Samsung has told me 1) replace the HDMI cable and 2) reset both the tv and sound bar. Neither option has solved this issue. Samsung's online forum has dozens of complaints on this issue and it does not appear Samsung has a solution. I am looking to replace my two main TVs in my family room and game room, and due to this issue, it surely will not be Samsung equipment.

Picture is amazing. Especially when hooked to the hd devices. Xbox, bluray, some of the channels that are broadcast in h.d. This samsung also learns your devices, meaning the tv remote can operate your blurays and such. The processor is also very fast. Haven'thad any buffering while on netflix or amazon tv. Wound up going with samsung, (which is my first samsung) because i went through two vizio 43" tv with the same specs. And both of them had to be returned. So i didnt want to drive back out a third time for another lemon. The first vizio i returned had a bad #2 hdmi port. And the second one i took back had lines that would flicker on the screen. Looked almost like watching a bad vhs tape. So i went samsung and im glad i did. And the price difference was another $110 for the Samsung and it is money VERY WELL SPENT. Not trying to bash vizios name, i still have three older ones for the other living rooms and kids rooms. And they have all been great. But be wary of their new ultra 4k tv's.

Had to return the first one (43 inch) after 4 calls to Samsung couldn't resolve issue. WiFi constantly lost its connection, then couldn't find any SSIDs until I cycled power by unplugging. Second TV purchase works fine and looks and sounds good. Minor off axis viewing degradation, lacks blue tooth and 3.5mm audio jack. Good connections otherwise with three HDMIs (one with ARC) and included 2 dongles for one RCA type connector video and audio connection to older equipment. I primarily use an antenna signal for viewing. Connected a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse effortlessly via the USB. Also purchased same model 50 inch TV with all the same features but the 50 inch sound quality is poor compared to this one which leads me to conclude (along with previous WiFi issue) that there may be quality issues with this model regardless of size. Not fond of the intrusive app focused home screen. Dropped a star due to quality issues experienced and lacking audio connections mentioned above.

The 7100 series is the best you can get from Samsung in a 43”. I always opt for higher end tv’s in any brands lineup, especially if you are looking for the best picture quality. 4K is only a marketing tool and the lower end sets never deliver the detail and clarity that is presented in top tier sets. Out of the box the picture quality looked flat and unrealistic. I went into settings to tweak and customize the picture to my standard of brightness, color and contrast. Don’t be afraid to play with the settings, you can always change back to default settings if you want to start over. The movie, dynamic or natural settings just didn’t give the picture a bright natural color image so had to go deeper I’ve always had good experience with Samsung tv’s. Only departure from Samsung was the purchase of the Sony OLED XBR 65” A1E.

Very good TV. Great blacks that would perfect with local dimming if it had it. I needed a 43" TV with great blacks and motion interpolation (the soap opera effect) and this is the best one I could find. I've been using motion interpolation TV's for years and can't go back to the blurry mess that's watching TV without it lol. I got the Vizio E-Series 43 inch and it would have been perfect if it had motion interpolation but it doesn't. The blacks and overall image quality was better on the vizio due to local dimming and for the price is a better bargain compared to the Samsung, but if like me you must have motion interpolation this is the best option. I also tried an LG and the motion interpolation was not very good (smearing) and the blacks were awful. The only other downside to this Samsung TV is that the smart features are quite intrusive at times.

I opted for the 7100 series over the 6900 for the additional features and chose a Geek Squad certified open-box item for the value. This is my 2nd ope-box TV purchase from Best Buy and both have served me well so far. Set up was very easy (you don't need geek status to do it in 20-30 minutes). The picture is sharp and the colors are vibrant. The sound is, for me, particularly good. My issues are few and mostly minor. 1. I was expecting a bit more brightness 2. Some content has awkward movements. From what I've read, that's has something to do with the refresh rate? 3. The "Smart" controls are a little too near the bottom of the remote control unit, making navigating difficult for large hands and long fingers. So far it is a solid win for me ;the perfect Christmas gift (to myself).

This TV is working out well for our needs, being small, slim but fully functional. The streaming access is really nice with these TV Plus channels I did not expect. The biggest issue we have is that it drops the wireless settings by the time it is turned on the next day! It won't even reconnect automatically. I have to setup from the beginning every day! I checked Samsung forums and this is a common problem with still yet no fix reported for this by Samsung (despite this being an issue for over a year!). Some people have had some success with Samsung remoting into their TV and turning off a setting. I believe it has something to do with the fact it never really turns off but goes into standby. Somehow the internet connection gets forgotten in this standby state.

There was a lot of choices but I need a 40+ inch TV for feet stand. I chose this TV over because it is 4K the size and I had Samsung which works great. However with this model I'm very disappointed. There is not a lot to like about this TV and I listed it below. Pros: 2018 Samsung 4K TV, Slim & lightweight, 3 HDMI ports Has the Smart TV apps Cons: No bluetooth WIFI 2.4 GHz Speakers are poor sounding, and you can't adjust it by equalizer because it doesn't exist. But you can only adjust it basic Normal, Expanded which I found not good. The most important is Picture quality, It is Average! Background light too bright and Contrast Max is 50. View angle changing color so that not good at all which indicates that this display is cheap and have low quality. This is not an OLED TV display quality suffer at an angle. Overall very disappointed with quality for the price

This TV is very good and the price is right at Best Buy. The problem is with the Apps that are installed on the unit. There are some that work beautifully and we have no problems with. Many of the channels with the apps do not complete the connection and there is no way to get the sound. Best Buy will not help with the problem as the Geek Squad is not able to get involved. Samsung will not offer anything less than to refer us to the App designer. And The App designers say that they are having problems with being able to work the bugs out. We at this time have an Expensive TV that works with what works and does not work with many applications.

Purchased to replace old Samsung that was getting a little dark....Relatively small screen fits beautifully in my bedroom. Picture quality is great and sound is adequate for a smaller space. Only annoying thing was the pop-up that took up half of the lower section of the screen whenever TV starts. Was able to remove through settings so now all is good. I kinda like the way TV turns on and off with the horizontal line that spreads - Old School in a good way. Would buy again - incredibly good value. Unfortunately, one can only have so many TV's.....Maybe I can purchase one for each bathroom? At this price point, I probably could....but I would probably never use the rest of my house!

I have to admit that I made a BIG jump in televisions. My 20 year old 27" cathode ray picture tube was finally starting to give out. We both like the old cabinet type television so it was a hard decision to go and look for a new model. I have a large flat screen for my computer and it is a Samsung. I have had it for over 10 years and never had any problems with it so i felt i could trust Samsung. I ended up getting the 43" 4k Samsung. We have had it for about 3 months and are VERY satisfied with the clarity, color and quality. The sound quality is pretty good, however, sometimes i think the volume is not quite there. It seems like we sometimes have to turn it up in order to hear, all things considered, even the sound is good.

This TV is Awesome.... I definitely would Recommend the Samsung 43 inch 4K Smart TV... .. I had a 40 inch Toshiba 1080 that I was looking to up grade , so looking around I saw this 43 Samsung 2160p 4K smart tv , and everything was right about this TV the size, the picture , the make, and the price... Read the reviews before buying it , and was skeptical , but took the plunge... the one thing I found was that I used the expert settings , and the picture looks mint... even using my old DVD player with movies ... makes them look good...

We are extremely pleased with the picture and sound of our new televising. It’s met our expectations. The remote control is easy to learn and use. We encountered one problem that was frustrating. We had trouble setting it up, connecting to our home wi-fi network. That took some time as did learning how to navigate our way around everything. There is much more that this tv can do that we haven’t used. It’s a bit intimidating having a smart tv that, in some ways, is smarter than me. I’m sure that with the passage of time, we’ll learn how to use more functions that it offers. But, for the two main criteria, picture and sound, we are extremely pleased.

Great thin profile, however picture quality is below average. Tried all adjustments but picture was either washed out or totally over saturated (in dynamic mode). We have 6 other TV's and some of my older 720p units have better picture quality. Totally makes no sense at that price and with today's technology. Returned and went with the Sony XBR43X800E. $200 more but WOW....what a difference. Not quite as thin but the picture quality is amazing right out of the box.....no need for any adjustments. I have 2 Samsung 4K monitors which are excellent so I am not sure what's going on. The TV is not defective because I went back to the store and the Samsung and Sony were right next to each other and you can see the difference immediately.

      NeilH,

I am sorry to hear that you were not happy with the picture quality.
Here are a few tips that may help you better enjoy the 4K viewing experience:
      1. The TV will upscale as best as possible any content sent to it. The closer your content is to 4K, the better the image will look on the screen.
      2. HDMI cables are recommended for optimal HD viewing.
      3. The TV also offers custom settings, allowing you to adjust images to your preference.
      4. The quality of streaming content depends largely on the speed of your internet, as most content providers have adaptive streaming that would automatically adjust the image quality based on the network bandwidth.
Please know that Samsung Customer Support is always happy to assist you with image quality adjustments tailored to your preferred viewing experience. Simply contact us via any of the following options:
