Got this as open box, so I got a great deal. Worst part is the rear channel is very weak and you cant explicitly adjust it. Suggest NOT using Surround setting and using Standard as your...standard as that boosts the rears more than the surround. Love the ability to simply blue tooth my phone to it at a whim and the tv to instantly switch sound devices. Wish my Q90r TV, $3k a like 2 years ago, could attempt to do the Q symphony, but that is only the very new model TVs. Overall, i think i would have preferred a new reciever for customizability, but the wife prefers this, its clean look, simplicity, and lack of wires going around the living room which we used to have win it out for her.

Seems to work well with my Sony TVs eArc, which the Visio I had did not. Sounds much better than the Visio. The bass is nice and even though the Sub is in the corner next to me, you don't hear it. In other words the low pass filter is set correctly

Good soundbar, but pain to set up.

The sound from the soundbar is pretty good, although I felt the rear speakers could be better. What was disappointing is just how much of a hassle it was to set up. I would get random disconnects and eventually I found I had to update the soundbar and then reset it. Resetting the soundbar was a pain because neither the included manual or the expanded online manual mentioned how to do it. I had to find a YouTube video with a few different possibilities and one of those worked. Since then I've had no issues and it sounds great, but it was a huge hassle just to get it up and running well.

      Hi James,

Thank you for choosing the Samsung HW-Q850A and taking the time to share your experience. I’m sorry to hear that your out-of-box experience has initially fallen short of your expectations.

By design, the surround speakers are supposed to simulate sounds happening behind the viewer. Therefore, most of the time the surround channels are only used for ambient sounds, which are naturally lower in volume.

However, there are a few settings you can change to adjust the surround effect to your preference:

      1) Make sure that the source (e.g. TV output) is sending surround channels to the Soundbar. If the source is not capable of surround, then set the Surround mode to OFF on the Soundbar by pressing the Surround button on the remote.
      2) If the source has surround channels, select the desired Sound Mode from the Soundbar remote.
      3) Turn off Dynamic Range Control. This is done by pressing and holding the Sound Mode button while the Soundbar is in standby mode. Depending on your soundbar model, you may or may not have DRC.
      4) Increase the volume level of the surround speakers using the Sound Control button on the Soundbar remote control. Press the Sound Control button on the soundbar remote (looks like a gear), then select REAR LEVEL and use the Up/Down buttons to adjust the volume within a -6 to +6 range.

I hope these tips help to enhance your audio enjoyment.

This bar produces good sound and on higher volumes it does fill the room like a movie theater. Lower volumes do not produce the same surround sound impact. Good bar for an average size room.

Easy set up and great surround sound experience for the price. Only negative is that the subwoofer, while clean and capable in general, is a bit lacking in power if you want huge bass. Overall, a great system.

      Hi MP20!

Thank you for your review of this Samsung HW-Q850A Soundbar. We appreciate you sharing your feedback regarding the bass performance.

There are two adjustments that can be made to maximize bass from the soundbar and subwoofer:
      1) Using the WOOFER button on the remote, you can adjust the level between -6 to +6. To set the subwoofer volume level to 0, press the button in.

      2) Adjust the bass control by pressing the SOUND CONTROL button (gear icon) on the remote control, then select BASS to increase the level. You can adjust the volume between -6 to +6 by using the Up/Down buttons.

For precise audio adjustments, you can use the 7-band frequency equalizer to optimize the sound for your room acoustics.

I hope this helps. For further assistance with features, settings, adjustments, or functions please contact Samsung Customer Support.

Quite simply the best sound system I've ever owned. I really couldn't be happier with this. I paired it with a Samsung 8k TV and I'm in heaven. I will never go to the theater again. Why bother when you've got this at home. I highly recommend this. No regrets.

Wow! Amazed at the sound on this. I recently returned a Sony soundbar which was more costly but didn’t have the best sound. I was weary of the surround speaks that aren’t wireless but I’m amazed. I’m thinking of buying this for the main entertainment room now.

I bought this hoping for a decent midrange soundbar with atmos. What I got is a very good soundbar, a decent subwoofer, ok-ish atmos, and working but weak satellite speakers. The reality is, for this price range your not going to find much better. This is the best I was able to find for a 5.1.2 sound setup without spending over $1000. Voices are crisp and clear, bass is strong enough, and the atmos speakers are noticeable but just barely. If you want a sub 1k setup that will blow those tv speakers out of the water, this is it. I will say i had an issue with mine coming new out of the box and being in store demo mode. I had to google instructions on how to turn this mode off.

Overall, we are very happy with our system, as it paired well with our new Samsung 65" Neo QLED TV and it was easy to install. However, we were a little disappointed that the Subwoofer does not have as much "Punch" during Low Volume situations, like the older Sony system it replaced did. I explored all settings and connection options, but was not able to improve low volume performance. This is a concern when considering the cost of the system and how much larger the Samsung Subwoofer is. On the upside, the entire system sounds great with the volume turned up, so this is a compromise we were willing to accept.

This is an ok system. Setup went kind of easy, but if you don't have the right t.v. to link it up to, some features don't work. Sound is decent, and doesn't require a high setting.

Soundbar is loud as hell, so are the pilot speakers but what's up with Subwoofer...very very disappointing on Bass level, for the most part is nonexistent even though you can crank it all the way to 6. On top of that whenever i turn on my Samsung tv the soundbar turns on automatically which is great because it eliminates the use of 2 remotes but its causing me an issue that for the first couple minutes my tv menus become frozen, the remote only works for volume up and down and return key. Never seen this issue before

I bought this for my media room after being helped in Best Buy by two employees. They failed to tell me that the rear “wireless” speakers are hardwired to a wireless transmitter that needs to be plugged in. The soundbar is good. The side-firing subwoofer lacks the punch I wanted. I thought that I would get a theater-like experience with the rear speakers. What I got was a few little sounds coming out every so often. My JBL 5.1 is a much better system even without the rear speakers.
