This is the best tv I've ever purchased! I'm soooo glad I was lucky enough to grab this during the holiday sales for $1999. I see it jumped back up to $2999! Wow. It's worth every penny though. Great features, deep blacks. Over all great picture. Love it.

Nice picture, remote and software disappointing

Nice picture, but in desperate need of calibration to get the best out of it. The smart remote and software is disappointing. My wife was yelling at the TV as it is so frustrating for her. She has already commented that she hates the TV as it is too difficult to do simple things on. Guess I get an aftermarket smart remote. PS. Third Samsung TV in five years. Two other sets died just after my 2 year extended warranty expired. This one may not last that long as i think my wife will throw the remote thru the screen before then.

    Amazing Color and Deep Blacks!

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Despite not having full array backlighting, the blacks are very nice and deep while maintaining good contrast with very little backlight bleed or clouding. I originally bought an open box Sony XBR65x850c. It was OK, but I wasn't a big fan of the Android OS on the TV. I love my Android phone, but not so much on the TV. The color of the Sony was very neutral, and natural looking, but it seemed to be lacking the pop that I was looking for, along with the deep blacks. There was a noticeable amount of backlight bleeding during dark scenes whenever the ambient light was reduced at night, and clouding when the screen was all black. Using the live color helped some with the dullness, but it seemed to oversaturate the reds and greens, while leaving everything else kind of dull. I went back to Best Buy to see if it was just the fact that the open box had a defect, or if they all looked that way. While doing so, the UN65JS8500FXZA caught my eye. The colors were vivid (all of them), the motion was fluid, and the blacks were very deep. I always change my settings to custom, and warm the picture up (vivid is bad for the life of the TV and gives a bluish tint to everything), so I wanted to see what the TV looked like without all of the dynamic settings on blast. I asked the associate to change the picture mode to cinema/film mode. I was sold. This setting is pretty close to a calibrated setup, according to some of the review sites, and is how the filmmakers intended for their work to be viewed. The colors are full of life, but not so much so that they are oversaturated. The details in any picture that it produces are amazing. I watched a few different shows that are in 4k on Amazon and Netflix while I was tinkering with the settings. Native 4k content looks so amazing on this set. There isn't much content out currently, but more and more is being added to streaming services all of the time now. YouTube has a good bit as well. You will need a 30mbps internet bandwidth or higher to stream 4k without worrying about buffering. I used the calibrated settings from rtings.com, and then adjusted a few settings here and there until I got the right balance that I was looking for. Using the smart remote was really easy. It is as simple as point and click. Rtings.com states that the viewing angle is poor on this TV. They say that the contrast is lost beyond 16°, but the picture looks great to me from every angle possible. You do lose a little bit of your saturation from the sides, but not enough to make the picture look poorly by no means. I connected my PC to this TV to play games and watch blurays. I was able to display 4:4:4 Chroma 4k@60hz. I had to enable UHD color in picture options, and set the input type as PC. I also had to replace my HDMI cable. Apparently, anything over 25ft is too long for a passive HDMI cable to achieve 4:4:4 Chroma 4k @ 60hz. For cables over 25 ft, you will need an "active" "high speed" HDMI cable. They are directional cables, so watch out for source and destination ends when installing one. There is no such thing as an HDMI 2.0/1.4/etc...cable. They are rated on bandwidth. For 4k@60 4:4:4 you'll need a high speed HDMI rated at 18gbps or higher. I would look through some reviews for the length that you need to see if anybody else mentions their results. Look for "certified" "high speed" cables. It will depend on your video card, too. This TV has it all. It has the nano crystal technology for more color, UHD upconverting (works great on 720p and up BTW), is HDR ready, 3D, WiFi, smart OS with plenty of apps, and does 4k@60hz 4:4:4 Chroma when connecting a capable PC to it with a capable HDMI cable. I would highly recommend it to anybody on the fence with others in this price range. It's the best looking flat panel I've seen at this size in this price range. The only flat panel I've seen that looks on par with or better so far is the Sony 950(b or c), but it costs nearly twice as much as this one. You won't be disappointed with this one, that's for sure!

This TV is stunning, excellent picture quality and awesome black levels. This is the best edge-lit TV I have every seen. Black levels are great with hardly any clouding or flash-lighting. A must have!!

After weeks of research, we were going to buy the un65ju6500. But considering the sale price, we let the sales rep up-sell us to the un65js8500. When we brought the TV home, we mounted it and went through the setup steps. Setup was very easy. The TV worked well for 5 minutes and then went into a continuous reboot loop; indefinitely. It would keep rebooting only flipping between a black screen and the samsung logo every 30 to 60 seconds. Eventually it would turn on even though power was coming to it. I called Bestbuy and they were really cool about it. They told me to simply come exchange it. The rep who sold it to us had heard of this issue. I drove right back and had a new TV (same model)in 30 minutes. No hassle. The replacement unit works extremely well. Features are awesome. 3D is ultra cool. Home networking with other devices works awesome. Happy customer.

I couldn't be more happy with this TV. The picture is clear and the color is amazing. I've had it for a couple months now and have not really had any problems. I've noticed a couple of glitches with moving through apps and having it connect to my home theater system right away like its suppose to. I also do wish it had a remote with buttons on it instead having a pointer and an on screen key pad. The speakers on the TV are also surprisingly good for a flat panel TV. They aren't the best but are better than most other TV's I've heard. I would definitely recommend a home theater system or a sound bar though.

Geek Squad was great, picture is great, but ...

The Geek Squad did a fantastic job. And the picture on the TV is great. But the rest of the TV experience has been very frustrating. Where to start? You pay $2,000 for a TV and they include a bunch of junky apps that you can't delete. Classy. The Netflix app works (though slower than the Roku), but the Amazon Instant Video doesn't work at all and the Hulu app is way slower than the Roku. I have a D-Link Tri-band router and a 300 Mbps Time Warner plan and the router is 12 ft. from the TV and the wireless connection is still slow. No other devices have that issue so it must be something with the TV. I'm glad you can use Bluetooth headphones if you like, but it takes a lot of steps to switch from the regular speakers. Couldn't they have an app like Roku where you can type on an iPhone keyboard to do logins and searches? The interface is pretty clunky. There is no simple way to have your commonly used apps lined up like on a Roku. Lucky for them Roku works well and the screen is great. Otherwise, I'd be taking this all back.

    Samsung JS8500

I purchased this TV to replace a 32" and get a bigger SUHD TV at 65". I ran into many issues with this TV. I spent countless hours on it. The TV part worked perfectly. The Smart Hub did not. I had a cable modem Motorola 6580 all in one router/modem. I found out my router had issues with this TV, yet everything else worked fine. I then upgraded my router and turned off the router in the cable modem. That fixed my signal loss issues. However, I was having a lot of Netflix and HBO issues. Then after going back and forth to Magnolia at least 6 times, I found other customers complaining about this. THis then told me it wasn't my setup, rather the TV as all my other equipment that was smart was working fine and better with the new router. I worked with Samsung support 4 times and they helped me to resolve the problems temporarily. However, they came back. I am in IT so I knew about how to set everything properly. I did the firmware upgrade OTA #over the air# on the TV. So I was thinking I was up to date after support told me there was 1.5 GB upgrade to the firmware on Oct 25 and it was only a couple days after...but I had to download it since it was so big to a USB flash drive. Once I did this, plugged it in, turned on the TV, did the OTA update to the firmware, it asked me to use the files from the flash drive. I had to unzip the files first though before putting them on the flash drive. Once I upgraded the firmware from the web, then ALL of my issues - all of them #I think 6-8 I had# all went away. I even had another issue with another Samsung TV 32' that was never turning on after turning off the TV. It wouldn't turn on for 30 mins and I had to unplug it and never worked plugged in again if I didn't. i tried getting new boards, etc...all had same issue. I upgraded the firmware even though it was from 2010, this fixed my issue, so just goes to show you most of their issues are FIRMWARE issues. Firmware is software on the boards that are in the TV's! Once all this was done I never had another issue. Be sure to check the web for your firmware and compare to your OTA update versions...always apply the latest firmware #with today's technology#. I will say they are quick to post firmware provided that you provide them the feedback on these sites and Samsung's site. It was an issue for a few months, but at least they fixed it...and listened to the customer. A 1.5 GB upgrade is a MASSIVE upgrade.

I originally purchased the 55" version of this tv and I gotta say the picture was so crisp and you could see every single detail on the background of shows like Seinfeld because of the motion plus feature it was like old shows were brand new again, I then noticed they have this tv (series 7 7090 model) that was a 60" for $350 cheaper and convicted my husband to exchange that tv for the other one because it was cheaper and bigger, got home and no matter what I did with the picture settings it didn't look any better then my 60" Samsung plasma I bought last year and after looking up reviews I came across something called the Samsung panel lottery when they use a cheaper panel by no name company and of course I looked in the back of the tv and in fact it wasant an official Samsung panel, I couldn't believe it and read also that they have real official panels on the s versions of their tvs, on the outside of the box it says version right next to the model number and serial number if it starts with a t or something like th1s it's a real Samsung panel, the other tv to me did not look like something better or an upgrade because it wasant the top of the line so I called and found a store that had this 65" 8500 SUHD in stock and went and picked it up, it has such a beautiful 4K picture and it does a great job at upscaling my 1080 content from my TiVo premiere or Roku and the colors are so bright and vibrant, the silver bezel around the tv looks very nice and it deserves being displayed in the living room where people can see but instead it's in my bedroom where we spend most of the time and will enjoy it to the fullest, the 3D is awesome, the tv only comes with one pair of 3D glasses but it's so much fun to watch a 3D movie with the kids and get the same effect as if you were at the movies. Sound is good for me but you can just add a sound bar or something so that's not a big deal. You can even play ps now games so that's very cool. I purchased the tv for $2499 but it went on sale for $1999 a few days later, so for that price I would say buy it you can't go wrong instead of getting something for a couple hundred dollars less but that doesn't compare in quality. When the first 4K tvs came out I would stand in the back of Best Buy store looking at how amazing the picture was and how it looked better then real life to me and now I have one of them. Very happy with my purchase!

Finally back in stock! Worth the wait!

After missing the Black Friday sale price, a kind Best Buy employee took pity on me and told me they might return to the sub-$2000 price just before the Super Bowl so I waited.... Surprise!! He was right! My local store sold out within hours of the price drop so had to drive an hour to snag the last remaining one in stock without a 2 week wait for delivery and was not disappointed. This thing is AMAZING right out of the box! Set up was effortless..the tv almost set itself up with just a little help from a human. Took the advice from others to wait a few days to adjust the color calibration-tv needs some "break-in time to "settle in"- and could not be happier! Was torn between the 65" SUHD and the 55" OLED -both $2000- from LG and decided to go with the 65" due to OLED ,while having a potentially "better" black levels , I cannot justify a $2000 investment on a first generation technology without any history on lifespan/ deterioration of the OLED panels. The 65" size does takes a few days to get used to, seemed overwhelming at first, but quickly became the perfect size for day to day viewing and movie nights are spectacular! Bought the Samsung 4K blu-Ray player on sale in December and the up conversion clarity of DVD's and Blu Rays is almost miraculous! While true 4K Blu Rays won't be available until March, the streaming of 4K content and up conversion of HD disc's/content are more than enough for now. Cable HD (XFINITY) is FAR better than expected-a huge plus- and Smart Hub is far easier to use than some reports have led me to believe- if you have a modicum of common sense and can operate the most basic of modern technology. Was going to invest in a sound bar but internal speakers are more than adequate ( the 8500 has 10 watt main speakers AND 10 watt subwoofers built in) but a sound bar may be required for larger rooms or to replicate a more intense "home theater" experience. Bottom line: this is the best investment I've ever made in video technology and the "future proofing" features with his model make the "cost/benefit" equation tip in favor of a "brilliant" investment. If you can get ahold of one, grab it... The 2016 models will hit the store soon and this price point, for this many high-end features,3D, 4K, nano-crystals, HDR ready, and superior sound, won't be seen again from a quality manufacturer.

Had the 65JU7100 for about 2 weeks now and think I'm going to keep it. Out of the box, there was a lot of problems, mainly with smarthub. TV couldn't seem to connect to router. Used a USB stick to Update which helped but then it couldn't seem to connect to the internet. Eventually unplugging the TV and plugging it back in worked. There seems to be a slight uniformity/banding issue with the tv which is only present in dark scenes. At first, I didn't think the cable picture was very good, but then figured out my box was set to 720p which makes the HD look like garbage. The best 4k is on youtube, Netflix 4k looks about the same as HD except for Smurfs 2 for some reason. I have my picture set to standard- most recommend movie but I couldn't get the picture to not look washed out. Also make sure you upgrade Netflix to 4k.

I wanted to purchase this TV when it was listed at $2,999.99 three months ago, but was very fortunate that the price went even lower during the Black Friday sale. The SUHD technology really enhances the colors and the blacks on the screen, which really does make a difference, especially when I watch a football game or basketball game. This TV was a perfect upgrade for my living room. All my TV's that I purchased have been Samsung, and they have not let me down. I still have my LCD TV that I bought 8 years ago and it works perfectly.

Originally, I purchased the Sony 4K model (XBR65X900C). I was disappointed with the picture (black levels) and sound. With the amount I paid, I was not happy with the quality of watching a Blu-ray. After 5 days, I exchanged for this Samsung 4K model. I could not believe the price I paid ($1,999). This was less than the Sony. The black levels and S colors are simply amazing. The sound is much better, even without a sound bar. However, I will be adding a sound bar. I feel that Samsung has overcome on quality products than Sony.

My previous tv was a Samsung 55 hd tv and it is great I tried a Sony 4K UHD 8510 tv and the picture was not as sharp as my older Samsung 55 in non 4K tv So the Sony went back and I purchased this 4K UHD tv and love it The picture quality is awesome and 4K is amazing If you want a 4K tv that doesn't require all kinds of adjustments coming out of the box this is the one to get In my opinion Samsung is the best brand when it comes to quality in televisions these days I am very picky and this model is a keeper
