Make my computer(CPU) start up in about 3 seconds !!!!!!!!

Since March last year work was done on my laptop and every time I try to do some work on it I cant..it consistently tells me " your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. We are just collecting some error info, and then we'll restart for you..but it never collects info or restart. Hours of waiting. Nothing..Geek squad had me buy a solid state drive which they installed and it's been hell since..DRIVER POWER STATE FAILURE. Really!

Welcome to 21st century. The harddrives have gone from bulky 5.25 inches to a mere 1 to 2 inches. This is called EVO, these harddrives are better known as RAM hard drives due to likness and installation. Replacing the original EVO HD was a challenge as and watching a few videos I successfully backedup my original hd and replaced it. This is kinda like plug and play you just have to insert it very carefully into the correct slot as they look like normal DRAM memory sticks. I have had NO ISSUES and this product does its job perfectly. My suggestion is this EVO technology is already replacing the normal laptop 3.25 inch hard drives, so you should get used to it. Backup your old hard drives and replace it, no need to defrag and with prices getting cheaper this is a worthy upgrade. I used Macrraium free version to clone my old hd as there is no clone software in the box or to download.

Replaced original HP drive that had typical problems: slow, some programs wouldn't open without determination and lots of key strokes. This replacement drive performs exactly the same as the original. My cost was reasonable; but I got nothing for the price.

Second one purchased for 2 recent all in one pc projects. Installing these is EASY. There is simply no reason to install an old style spinning hard drive unless you need massive storage. For home use this is ideal and the price is great. This was a match for my project and the sweet spot for price vs performance. The software for this works. I have put together 4 pcs with samsung sata3 and one with an m2. The specs for this device are improved over last years model and the price is even better. Best Buy associates are ready to tell you things like what are you waiting for and that they cant keep this on the shelf. If you want 1 step up get the extreme version for double the price and if you want faster go with an intel product for double the price again or say no and take the advice given. What are you waiting for.

Like others mentioned in their reviews, this has to be the best 500gb SSD for laptop or desktop. I currently have it powering my desktop as I am writing this review. Boot up times are phenomenal, speed of opening apps is crazy fast, and storage is more than adequate for a primary PC Windows partition. Yes, I was skeptical of all the positive reviews, but I for one am impressed. Also, the Magician software is one of the best out there for checking the status of your Samsung SSD and bench marking other non-SSD or HD drives. Read and write speeds are the best in the business as of today. I am very pleased with this SSD!

This is a great SSD. The installation was very easy with the Samsung Migration tool available on there download site. There are a couple You Tube videos on this if you are hesitant. The data, roughly 90 GB, from my laptop drive was completely moved to the SSD in about 30 minutes. I removed the old laptop drive and installed the SSD, with the aid of another You Tube video. My laptop now boots so fast and I can be on a google search in about 20 seconds with a Gen4 Intel i5 laptop. This is like getting a new laptop. I liked this Samsung SSD so much I bought a 2nd SSD and upgraded my wife's laptop. She is very happy with the performance. Before she would complain about her Gen5 Intel i7 laptop. The price was right at $73 too.

My understanding before getting this hard drive was in order to make my Macbook Pro operate faster that I needed to add more Ram. I maxed out my ram, but my computer seemed to operate at the same speed before upgrading the ram. However, after installing this hard drive, my computer has completely changed. Start up time use to take over one minute and now it boots in 10-30 seconds. I work in the music business as a producer and now my applications run so much faster. I can process songs in seconds after completing them. It's amazing. Highly recommend this purchase. Easy to install as well. If your computer doesn't recognize the hard drive, make sure to formatthe new hard drive 1st and then your computer should recognize it. I had this problem when first installing it. A lot of YouTube videos will tell you to replace the connector strip (I think that's the name) but that isn't always the case. By the way, I have a late 2011 Macbook Pro.

I was looking for SSD upgrade for a laptop. What a speed improvement over a spinning disk. Installation was easy and Samsung migration utility worked great. Reliability has been very good.

Samsung 860 EVO SSD 500gb BACKGROUND: I have been debating for some time now whether to replace my 8 year old Lenovo G560 Laptop (Pentium P6100, 4gb ram, 300gb HDD) with newer technology, or go low-budget just replacing the HDD with a SSD. Been running Microsoft’s free Windows 10 upgrade for over a year, maybe two, and I really only needed a speed boost for the original slow HDD. After spending Friday researching SSD’s, I purchased the Samsung 860 EVO SSD 500gb Saturday morning. I already had a USB to SATA cable in my parts drawer. Downloaded Samsung’s Data Migration and Magician software and had the HDD cloned and replaced by 3pm. Nice! SHOW STOPPER: Now I did encounter some HDD errors from my source drive during my first cloning attempt that stopped the process. The Data Migration software asked if I wanted to run CheckDisk, I selected YES, and it rebooted the system checking/fixing the drive. In hindsight, yeah I should have run that first being it is an 8 year old HDD. That added an hour and a half to my overall cloning. Therefore I would highly recommend for older HDD’s that you check your drive for errors before your begin (chkdsk c: /f /r /x) - run as Admin. CLONED: Anyway, once the old HDD errors were found, recovered, and moved, I restarted the Data Migration (cloning) process. Took about 1 hour and 50 minutes to clone 126gb from the original HDD to the new SDD. Add another 20 minutes to actually swap the drives. WOW! Once the SSD was installed, it breathe new life in an aging laptop, I am very pleased. The bottle neck has always been that HDD. Task Manager was always showing the disk running at a very high percentage (40% to 60% or more); seemed like all of the time. Now disk usage is below 5% if not 2% with apps and most of the time the SSD shows less than 1% just surfing the net. Boot up time has dramatically reduced from around 7 minutes (CPU & HDD ceased running) to less than 1 and ½ minutes. SOFTWARE: Regarding the need to download the Samsung software; that was not an issue for me. Had this 860 SSD included a software CD, it would probable have been outdated requiring a download to current versions anyway. And nowadays, most laptops are doing away with onboard CD’s readers, so it would be just a waste of useless resources to include a CD. BOTTOM LINE: If you are on the fence with replacing your old HDD with a SSD, just do it. One of the most cost effective upgrades around, especially with the lower pricing of SSD’s these days.

This is the fourth Samsung SSD I've installed in laptops over the past two years. In each case the owners were frustrated with very slow speeds and ready to purchase new or toss their PC's in the trash. If your computer is slow due to 100% disc utilization as reported in Task Manager, this drive will likely solve your problem. (Size used in all four cases has been 500GB) Samsung's online cloning software works as advertised and helps in keeping the conversion cost down. Please note a cable is needed for cloning the SSD before installation and is not included with this drive. I personally like to use a hard drive case and cable when cloning. This way the original drive can be placed in the case and used as a portable backup drive later on. (Case and cable cost approximately fifteen dollars) Disassembling the laptop can be somewhat intimidating, but there are many model specific online videos showing how it is done. No laptop in 2020 and beyond should have a spinning HD given the price-point Samsung's SSD have become. With no moving parts they are very reliable. BUY IT and enjoy the speed increase!

Extremely fast (night and day difference between a mechanical drive), fair priced, very reliable. This is the third Samsung EVO SSD I have installed in my computer (the other two are still happily running). These make great system drives or games drives as their modest size makes them perfect for those few games that really benefit from fast file access (e.g. WOW, Squad, SWTOR, etc.). Additionally I find the size just perfect for a system drive as well as it's more than big enough for most people's OS, applications, and pics/documents. For larger files, I would suggest offloading to a cheaper storage solution like a mechanical drive.

The Samsung 860 500GB SSD is a great replacement hard drive for older/legacy spinning disk hard drives. For this specific scenario, this SSD was used to replace spinning disk hard drive that came in a Dell Precision 6600 laptop. Windows 10 performance is absolutely phenomenal on this older work station laptop as a result of this SSD. This change to the laptop really eliminates the need for having to upgrade to newer device For at least a couple of years. Great way to refresh an older device. Price for SSD was reasonable as well, and locally in stock. Definitely recommend for those looking to upgrade an older device.

Think your computer is slow? Taking forever to load things as simple as a spreadsheet or document? Web browser crawling along? It may not be your internet, your processor, or your RAM. The single biggest improvement I've ever done to speed up a computer an SSD. I've built a number of computers, for myself and others, upgraded or repaired several computers, and taught others to build. This is the upgrade that is totally worth the price. And these Samsung units are awesome, I've purchased three over the last several years, the oldest is about three or four years old in a gaming rig and doing just fine. All are working flawlessly.

Hard to rate something that works in the background on your PC, but here goes. First, on-line ordering and pick-up in store was quick and easy. Second, this thing is very small and light. It was exceptionally easy to install. Because it was so light, and we had no screws, we elected to just set it in the case and let the tension from the cables hold it in place. Third, once installed, it was recognized by the system immediately. Finally, it has sped up our system quite handily and with little investment of my money or my time.

wow for the price and speed of this product simply amazed me. I'm going to buy another for my other laptop

This is the second one of these I have purchased from Best Buy. Both have been installed as the internal HD for two different computers. For this one, I installed it in a refurbished HP ProBook that was a couple of years old. Once the SSD was cloned and installed the performance of that laptop was exponentially increased. Since this HD is a solid state, it loads everything almost instantly. Booting up that laptop is almost instantaneous, hit the power button, a second later slide your finger on the fingerprint reader to unlock, and about 5 seconds later windows is fully loaded and ready to use. Boot-up before this hard drive was installed was normal (slow), a minute or two before windows was loaded, and even then, processes would continue to load, that would slow the system down as they started as well. Not anymore, it seems like all the background start-up stuff is loaded almost instantly as with with this SSD. Even normal tasks happen so much quicker, before opening an Excel spreadsheet would be delayed, as it loaded for a few seconds; not any more, it I click on an icon for a spreadsheet, it opens almost instantaneously after I click on it. The hard drive comes with free downloads of software from Samsung to clone it from another HD and utilities and monitoring. I was worried I had to purchase software to clone my original HD, but the free samsung software worked great and was easy to use. I purchased a USB adaptor from Best Buy as well when I ordered the first SSD, and cloning was as simple as downloading and running the software, connecting the HD via USB, and letting it run for an hour or so. Once the SSD was installed in place of the old HD (install consisted of removing a cover, four small screws and one cable) the laptop booted up like the factory HD was still there, except about ten times faster.

I have used Samsung EVO SSDs for a long time, starting with the 840, then 850 and now the 860. The Evo 860 does everything I asked-this one was bought to put in a mid-2012(non-Retina) MacBook Pro, and it was a night-and-day difference in how the computer performed. SSDs in general are a great upgrade for computers, and the Evo line consistently delivers a reliability and speed at a very reasonable price/capacity. This drive benchmarks consistently at over 500mb/s read and write, and experience with older Evos has told me that it will hold that performance over the long haul.
