Took it to the Geeks and they estimated the cost of repairs to be $275.00+. Told me buy a new one. No way! I walked into the store and found this item on sale, a 500 gig solid state drive for $89.00. Down loaded the Window 10's Installation Media on a 16 gig thumb-drive @ $4.99. This Solid State Drive is better than factory spec! Fits the standard 2-1/2" laptop hard drive slot perfectly. All you need a micro-Phillips head screwdriver. Take the back off the laptop and unscrew the old HD mount and slide it down. Attach the old mount to new drive, then slide it in and screw it down. Replace the back and plug the Windows 10 thumb drive in to a USB slot and turned it ON. It booted to Windows 10 thumb-drive automatically . Took 10 minutes to install drive and fire up. Great product, much faster boot, and not as delicate as the old spinning disc model.
I would recommend this to a friend Terrible product. Clone sw terrible.

My PC that used to take around 1-1.5 minutes to boot up and be usable now takes less than 10 seconds. Speed of everything is amazing. No noise, no heat from what I can tell. Highly recommend for apps or if you are doing a lot of transferring of pics, etc.

They make such a tremendous difference in computer speed and performance! These SSD drives made by Samsung are excellent, top-notch SSD drives. In some cases, I have clients that use their computers for very few things (email, web browsing), so I do opt for the cheaper PNY 120GB SSD's since Samsung does not offer a 120GB option. That being said, whenever I am in need of a 250GB SSD or larger, Samsung is my first choice, even if the price is higher than other options. These drives are very well made, and the Samsung Magician software that can be installed on Windows is great. It provides lots of insight on drive health, usage, and when a firmware update is available, it makes updating the firmware very easy and straightforward. On top of all that I mentioned, these drives come with a 5 year warranty from Samsung, which shows they really do stand behind their EVO products. Highly recommend these drives, and I hope that Samsung will eventually offer a 120GB option as well!

The Samsung Magician software did not let me do anything. I ended up trying 2 different pieces of software before Mini Tool Partition Wizard did the job. I ended up ripping my laptop apart (have to remove the keyboard and pry apart the case) 4 times before things booted properly. Once in, this thing is blazing fast. My boot time is probably 20x faster. This is not an exaggeration. Obvious other advantages, such as quietness and lack of heat. I can't imagine spending much more for other models would make things much faster. Overall, very satisfied and would buy again.

Great Value for Older Laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I installed this in a ten year old Acer Aspire 6055 ($350 in 2011, not a fast machine). Wow the reviews were right. Best bang for your buck. If you are on the fence on your old laptop why not try it. It made an amazing change for my system. Was sooo slow to start before, now 15 seconds. Keep your hard drive from failing and if the rest of the laptop gives out now you have your data and a backup drive to mount in an external enclosure.
