Purchased this solid-state drive to upgrade an old computer that I am working on. A year ago I purchased this exact same hard drive to install on my personal computer when I upgraded it from Windows 7 to Windows 10. This drive has performed flawlessly. It breathe brand new life into my personal computer and the new drive I bought will breathe new life into the computer that I am building for a family member. Reliable stable and the speed is crazy when compared to mechanical hard drives.

Upgrading an older system to an SSD is still the most cost effective and noticeable investment you can make in your PC. New NVMe drives have replaced SATA SSDs with far better performance, but if you don't have an m.2 slot, it's not an option. This drive offers a great blend of storage space, speed, and price that is pretty tough to beat. I typically go with the 250/256GB sizes for system builds, but would recommend this to anybody that stores a decent amout of data locally. Can't beat Samsung reliability when it comes to their SSDs, either.

Why didn't I do this sooner? Oh well. Now that I finally got around to adding this as the OS boot/critical files drive to an aging desktop, it performs as well as any of my other new machines. I'm sure I could find drives with "better" performance baselines but for most home users I'm sure this will more than fit the bill. Install is easy and it just works - fast. Great price for this size (500GB), inexpensive enough to buy a few for spares and upgrade neighbors' computers.

Easy installation, faster, and very silent. I installed this on my laptop and it performs 100% better than the cheap drive that came with the laptop.

If you are a designer, then you will love this SSD. For my particular workstation, I use AutoCAD a lot and i was very impressed with how fast the program opens now that I have this installed. The boot time is great, the response time is spot-on when opening other minor programs and installing any software (big or small) is a breeze. Overall I could not be more satisfied with this product. I will be buying a 250GB for my other PC running Linux. Note:For those who are curious, this comes with approx. 465GB of usable memory. (As expected. No such thing as True 500GB/1TB/250GB...etc.)

I bought this as a secondary storage for games for my desktop and another one to upgrade my wife's macbook pro to replace the original hard drive. It was easy to install for both systems. I would recommend this as an initial upgrade if you have an older computer that uses a hard drive and want your os to load faster. Note, that replacing the OS drive, you will have to clone the original drive. Best Buy also sells the hard drive cloning peripheral, personally I used the Apricorn one and it worked just fine.

Super fast, excellent immediate upgrade in system speed and reliability. Samsung makes some of the best SSDs. Easy to migrate system to SSD with the Data Migration software (Windows) that is included, or can do a fresh install - your choice. In this new drive's case, I went ahead and did a migration as there was hardly anything on the drive that I was replacing... easy enough to do and hardly any drive space to worry with. Used the 1TB 7200 it was replacing as backup storage. Win-Win. Now using the SSD as main system drive. Boots up in about 6 seconds. Wow!

This drive was added to my Dell gaming machine for storing Steam games. It installed easily and I moved the games from a smaller SSD and set the drive as target for Steam. Just be sure you have your connectors ready, initialize the drive and format. The price is right for using SSDs for storage, but always make backups in case the drive goes down. This is my third Samsung SSD and so far none have failed. You are more likely to run out of space and the price is perfect for increasing the size of an SSD.

This is the second Samsung - 860 EVO 500GB I have bought. I bought the first one a year ago and it is still working like new no slow down at all. The migration software that came with it made transferring all the data from the old mechanical hard drive a breeze. Before the laptop was sluggish, would take a long time to start up, and games take a long time to load too. Now it takes about 10-13 seconds to boot to the windows screen, it is no longer sluggish and games load much quicker.

The 860 EVO ssd’s are my favorite - never had a problem with them. I have about 5 of these in 1TB and 500GB capacities. I bought my own usb c enclosures for them and it’s fast - I could not be happier! I use them to store my sound libraries for my music production projects and an extra for my PS4, so it’s definitely decent enough to work off of. You’ll be happy with your purchase if you get these!

Sony VAIO I7 laptop started slowing down, did complete drive wipe and still had sluggish performance with clean install. Hard drive analysis didn't show any issues but i figured this was the next step. Software is user friendly and makes cloning your previous OS a breeze. Install took less than 15 minutes, and first boot took 15 seconds from power on to full ready! If you're on the fence about swapping to an SSD, do it now! My PC runs faster than when i first bought it.

Upgraded the HDD on my Mid-2012 MacBook Pro. My son is using it for learning at home and we'd notice how sluggish it was when trying to open learning programs. It runs like a dream now! Everything opens up without a sitch. No spinning rainbow circle all the time. Booting up has no wait time and it was a pretty easy upgrade to do. SUPER happy with this purchase and the result.

This SSD replaced a traditional spinning platter hard drive in my laptop. The performance boost was not subtle; even with the maximum RAM installed that the system will support, it was still paging out to virtual RAM in some cases, the speed of which this SSD greatly improved. The system boots faster, and applications load faster, too. Although time will tell, Samsung EVO drives are supposed to be some of the longer-lasting SSDs.

Bought this to replace the OS drive in my cousin's old laptop because they wanted a reliable upgrade and based off my history with these SSDs I've never once had an issue. In my opinion Samsung makes some of the best SSDs and they are always my go to. Plus 500GB for this price is great considering that is more than enough for most every day computers today

I bought the Samsung EVO 500GB SSD for my HP Laptop that was giving me alerts that my hard drive was failing. If you value your time, get an SSD like this Samsung for your computer. It fits nicely in my laptop. The boot time is like 15 seconds with this new SSD!! I used to keep my laptop on all the time as it took so long to boot up. This SSD is quiet (it doesn't have any moving parts) and fast. I am happy with this device.

I purchased this SSD to replace the HDD in my PS4. The difference it has made is night and day. I specifically purchased it because I play BDO and ESO and the performance has improved, significantly. If you're on the fence about replacing your HDD, don't be. It was easy to install and following Sony's online instructions for saving and reloading data was pretty effortless. I highly recommend this SSD.

I bought two of this SSD. 1TB for my desktop and 500GB for my daughter's Dell laptop. The laptop used to be very very slow with the traditional HDD. Simply replacing HDD with SSD is huge upgrade. It was easy and fast to transfer existing OS (Windows 10) and files from the old HDD by using the Samsung migration software that is downloadable from Samsung website.

This was a savior when the stock hdd on my hp laptop died. Will fit any laptop that has a 2.5 inch sata hdd. Installation is easy once you figure how to open the laptop. Amazing performance if you are upgrading from hdd. With a usb to sata cable, it can be configured to be used as an external Portable hard drive. No moving parts = less worries. And... Best buy rewards brought down the cost!!

Solid State Drives (SSD) improve the speed and reliability of a computer or laptop more than anything else these days. Samsung males some of the best and this unit was on sale when i needed to upgrade one of my older computers. Everything I do is now much faster and more responsive. Reliability is better, operation is silent and less power is used. Very satisfied with this purchase.
