I purchased the Samsung - 860 EVO 500GB Internal SATA Solid State Drive for use in an external hard drive enclosure as a portable transfer / storage drive to move lots of data and pictures from one system to another. I wanted a solid state drive that is fast and small and the Samsung was a good choice. It fit perfectly in the external enclosure and provides the capabilities that I need. At the time it was a toss up between the Samsung or SanDisk SSD 1/2TB drives. When I was looking to purchase a SSD, the SanDisk was $5 less with a 3 year warranty but the Samsung has a 5yr warranty. I went with Samsung for the extra 2 years of warranty since everything else was pretty much equal. So I purchased the Samsung and loving it. Works for my needs very well.

I bought this drive to upgrade an older lenovo laptop for my sister in law. Overall I didn't expect much from it but was surprised to see how much it improved the operation of her laptop. It was so good she actually thought I switched out her laptop for another one. Now, it's no speed demon but the laptop went from rip van winkle to actually being usable for daily tasks and reports. She can now use her laptop again instead of leaving it to collect dust in the corner. Over the years I have only seen one samsung ssd fail and that was in a hot and I mean hot 2012 imac that was never turned off. Great Product!!!

I've bought a few of these Samsung SSDs the last few months. This EVO model was put into a desktop and another into a laptop over 18 months ago. I'd put a QVO model into an Xbox One. I've had great luck on these drives. All of these drives have been extremely reliable and are significantly faster the drives they replaced. The EVO were installed in a Windows 10 environment on a fresh OS build. The Samsung utility made things easy in my particular case. None of my applications for these drives have seen a huge amount of data write / rewrite so I can't comment on durability in that regard. I'd say for normal usage these are great drives. Keep an eye out for sales, it makes them an even better deal.

I’ve bought a lot of SSDs, and despite never having a “bad experience” with any brand, I never stray from Samsung. Reliability is crazy and despite most flash memory coming from only a handful of manufacturers (Samsung, Hynix, and Micron(?) I think), Samsung SSDs are the best. Boot times are great, read/write IOPS are infinitely better than an HDD. This 500GB model is modest capacity (more than enough for a boot drive) for a good price. The drive software (Samsung Magician) is great too, allows for health monitoring, firmware updates, and other maintenance tasks and is very easy to use. I always have peace-of-mind with a Samsung drive!

Bought it to replace my desktop computer HDD. Super easy to replace and setup was a breeze. I still use my old HDD as a backup drive. Boot time is super fast. Very happy with the purchase. Highly recommended.

Bought two of these to upgrade an older VAIO. The Evo SSDs have come a long way in terms of quality and value. The upgrade was rather very simple. I had to purchase brackets to help these 2.5 inch SSDs fit into the 3.5 inch bay previously used by the older hard disk drive. In terms of performance, boot up is now super quick and the internal CPU fan doesn't appear to be overwhelmed like previously. Running Windows 7 by the way. My performance index is now only limited by my graphics card. My hard drive was the lowest before the upgrade (5.9); my new score lists the hard drive at 7.1. Money well spent in my opinion; you won't regret it. I have used the Pros too but decided on the Evos as I needed 2 and didn't want to shell out too much.

Before this drives cost a fortune, nowadays computers without SSD or NVMe's are considered Slow Dinosaurs, got this for a niece laptop and change the game instantly, load times are quick, not as good as NVMe's but completely much better than conventional HDD... Best part is that you can handle the machine without worrying if the drive is spinning and would corrupt, that doesn't happen with an SSD, and since kids are careless this is a plus. Will recommend specially if you have a regular HDD, will see the difference in speed and performance (because of load times) don't get confused, this doesn't give you more cores or hertz or processing power, just Load times and Cache of course works faster Recomended

Purchased on sale. Great price...Cannot beat the performance gain of an SSD Drive. Plus, the included software Magician is excellent to help maintain and improve performance.

Replaced the Hard Drive in my 2012 macbook pro with this over a year ago and it's still working great! It's fast its quiet and easy to install. I'd highly recommend it to anyone who is looking.

This is an incredibly fast and reliable drive. I did a clean install of Windows 10 Pro and after setup and updates we're complete, my laptop only took 8 seconds to boot up. From hitting the power button to getting to the login screen. Wow! My applications are quicker and less sluggish. I highly recommend this drive.

If your Laptop (or Desktop) has a traditional hard drive and you want to give it an instant performance boost, installing a Solid State Drive will give you instant gratification. I successfully upgraded a fairly new but lumbering HP laptop with just a few hours of effort. The only not included item is a SATA to USB dongle that is readily available at relatively low cost. Samsung's migration software (downloaded from Samsung) is easy to use. My wife is very happy that her laptop now has a SSD (and of course so am I).

Upgraded 5 year old laptop laggy harddrive with this SSD. Very impressed with quietness and reduced boot time substantially. True Samsung quality and reliability.

Have some older pc 2015 at work Just went through the migration from windows 7 to 10 Hate the hassle of replacing pc at work — with the need to reinstall software, reconnect network, install printer driver, etc Asked my IT how I could get few more productive years out of PCs He recommend upgrading with ssd Cloned the drives and replaced hd with ssd kept the older hd in place as ‘physical’ catastrophe fall back plan They boot up faster and piece of mind knowing these drives are good at least till the next round of pc upgrade The cost of the ssd makes it a easy, efficient and cost effective way to delay major cost for few more years

Replaced my 7 year old hard drive with this SSD and right away my computer feels like a new one. It runs quieter and boots faster. Great upgrade that was easy to install

My laptop was slowing down with the upgrade to Windows 10 and it was mostly due to the old disk. I upgraded to the SSD card and it boots about 3 times faster and runs about twice as fast overall. The ssd came with cloning software so all you need is an adapter to plug the new ssd into a usb port (I had one) and clone your hard drive to the ssd, power off, remove the hard drive and plug in the ssd drive. Reboot and I was done. The cloning took a long time, I did it overnight, but the actual remove the old drive and putting in the new drive was about 10 minutes. I recommend borrowing the usb adapter, since you only need to use it once, for this project.

I replaced my Mac hard drive with this SSD drive. What a difference! My Mac is working like brand new again. The SSD drive was easy to install and all my files were easily transferred.

I bought two of these, and I am very happy with them! I replaced regular spinning disk type hard drives with these in both computers. One computer has an i3 processor and the other has a cheaper processor. So the computers are much faster than they used to be, but they are still limited by the processors. I am just setting your hopes, for people like me who have old PCs that they are trying to get a few more years out of. The SSD HD really did provide a huge improvement in speed on both computers!

I am astounded at the difference this relatively easy upgrade. The performance of my computer - with no other changes - has dramatically improved. If you are still running on a pokey HDD, the answer is, "Yes, do it." It is not difficult to swap out the drives, and Samsung on their website offers free software for cloning your existing drive. The only pieces you will potentially need (depending on your PC) are a power splitter and data transfer cords so that you can temporarily have both the old and new drives hooked up at same time for cloning.

I'm amazed how much faster the drive is. The Magician software not only carves out a bit of the drive for overhead, but it also has a cool performance test you can run on all installed drives. So I ran it on the SSD and a 6 TB WD HDD dedicated to pictures and the Random IOPS results were: for the SSD 8,789 read and 19,775 write vs for the HDD 178 read and 244 write. While that may sound unbelievable, it isn't. You actually experience this speed differential while working on the PC.

This is one of the best SSDs out there. It's reliable and not too pricey. IMO, it's worth the little extra. Great for a PC upgrade on a smaller budget.
