    Excellent phone upgrade

Got the S8 to replace my 2+ year old S6 just as the S9 was coming out. I debated whether getting the already year old S8 was the way to go with the S9 just out, but I couldnt justify the huge payments on the S9 for a slightly better chip and a better camera, which I dont care much about. BestBuy had a great deal on the S8, and as I was still leasing my S6 through Sprint, I found myself paying more to lease the S6 than to purchase the S8. So it was a no-brainer. The phone itself is a huge upgrade, with a much better screen, slightly larger, with a lot more customization options and way faster. The lack of a true home button is annoying, but I've gotten used to it. The huge Bixby button on the left hand side of the phone (below the volume buttons) was also annoying as I was constantly hitting it accidentally. But that was solved when I shut off the annoying Samsung Bixby entirely. One other issue is the Calling Plus feature, which supposedly allows you to talk and surf (cellularly) at the same time (a la what you have been able to do on Verizon for years now). Unfortunately I found that if I turned that on making phone calls became pointless as after about 30-60 seconds or so either I couldnt hear the other party, or they couldnt hear me. Turning it off resolved the problem but failed to resolve the issue of why you still cant talk and surf on Sprint despite them promising it for years now. I suppose that wouldnt have been an issue if I was on Verizon, but I'm not. The phone otherwise is highly recommended and for the price a better option than the S9.

This phone is great. My old S7 had to be charged constantly from the time I purchased it. I can use my S8 for hours without the battery depleting much. The phone takes great pictures. It is hard to find a screen protector. I had to go to several places to find one that actually works well (because of the edge). The fingerprint scanner it the best! My S7 had a fingerprint scanner that never seemed to work. The S8 fingerprint scanner is on the back of the phone. So simple to use and it actually reads my fingerprint the first time. I am not sure how much I like the home and back buttons. Sometimes it is hard to get them to show up at the bottom of the screen. In some apps it takes a few times to get the back button to work at all. Great phone though.

This is a great phone though not inexpensive. Feels good in my hand and even though the Bixby button is annoying I have learned to not hit it inadvertantly.. Phone performs as I expect from Samsung

    Still not in love

I was hoping for incredible long-range photos and super-easy, intuitive function. What I got was a steeper-than-expected learning curve - even for a veteran Android user - not-as-sharp-as-promised photos and other distractions, such as pop-ups I can't make disappear, an impossible-to-see charging light and that darned Bixby button that, as a leftie, I keep hitting accidentally. I'd still probably buy this phone, but I'm not as wowed as I hoped I'd be. Plus, there's no print manual! And the online version is 200-some pages! That's a real pain if you just want to know how to make that truly annoying bouncing circle of FB messenger photos go away or change the color of text messages (if that can even be done). Issues like that shouldn't be hard to figure out by looking through phone settings, but that's not the case.

I've had the s8 about 2 months now & so far overall, I love it. operation is fast, especially when connected to my wifi. the camera is fantastic, & finally competes with the iPhone camera. I actually have the iphone7 for work & have compared the two. during the solar eclipse, my s8 took great photos when the sun went behind clouds, however my iPhone 7 did not turn out near as good. the new s8 handles light so much better than older models & the shutter is super fast, almost instantaneous. I don't like the edge feature or the infinity screen as that just makes it more susceptible to damage if the phone is dropped. I don't use the edge feature anyway, so I wish they had made a model without it, like they did for the s7. I also hate the new home buttons being incorporated to the screen rather than having actually buttons.

Upgraded from a S6 to a S8 and I love it. Never used the finger sensor on the S6 cause I found it difficult to read my fingers but S8 was simple, read without a problem. The Iris is a great way to unlock the phone also, very easy to unlock and won't work with other people's Iris except yours(I tried with many people). There's one thing that does annoy me, the BIXBY Button on the side. It's too close to the volume button that I would accidently press it. But other than that annoying button, I am very pleased with my upgrade.

Beautiful design Amazing... everything One minor gripe: I keep accidentally hitting the Bixby button, which then activates the Voice Assistant (for the vision impaired). This is MADDENING, but not enough to make me love this phone any less. Stop thinking about it and BUY ONE.

I have been a Samsung fan for years and this phone did not disappoint. The infinity screen and the camera are exceptional on this device. My only complaint is the Bixby button under the volume. I mean really what is the purpose? Other than that I love everything about the Galaxy S8.

The display is supperb with the brightest setting too bright for any circumstances other bright Sun light. The lack of an IR blaster is disappointing in such an expensive and top-of-the-line phone. Audio quality with headphones, earphones or external speakers is outstanding. There is a quirk with the Contacts settings. The sort settings (first name or last name) work properly for the phone app but not for email/texting apps. I have not been able to get the edge lighting to work. This problem is apparently common according to many Internet reviews. The dedicated button for Bixby should be re-thought and perhaps eliminated. The button can be disabled or re-assigned using one of a few free apps. The phone itself is beautiful, but most people will put their S8's in a protective case.

I upgraded my Samsung S7 to S8 about two weeks ago. S8 is a good phone, but there are things I'm not impress with. The phone button is digital which occasionally hard to find to press on. The edges make the screen protector to stay on securely.

This phone is definitely an upgrade to the s7. Going to miss the home button at the bottom of the phone but I think I'll adjust.
