    Amazing Phone

Ungraded from a Galaxy S5 to this. Wanted a big screen and the huge battery. Hasn't disappointed in either area! Even under heavy use (watching videos, browsing the web), I can get over 24 hours out of a charge. I sprung for an otterbox case, seeing as I have a nasty habit of dropping my phone. Highly recommend investing in a quality case, based on other reviewers experiences of cracked glass.

Everything works so much better and is so easy to use! I will get my case today and of you are on Verizon get the deal they have with a qualifying phone! Even if you are not and want unlimited get it anyways! I am so glad I went back to Samsung.

Samsung got it right this time

I originally had an S6, but Samsung really got this phone right. With an amazing screen, the water resistant protection back, the quick interface, and overall a very easy to use design, this is Samsung back in their element.

Great Phone with even greater Achilles Heel

This is a great phone let down by one major flaw. I have had an S3 and and S5 in the past and this was a step up. I love the display, the memory, the speed, and the color. If it was just for that I would have given this phone 5 stars. So why only two? SCRATCH CITY!!! I have had this phone for only 3 days and there is already a bunch of scratches on the screen. And deep enough to pick up with your finger nail. I never had this problem with the previous Samsung phones. In fact I went caseless for the entire 2 year life of the S5 and only picked up one scratch when it fell to the floor of the truck once. I haven't treated this phone any different and have not dropped it or otherwise abused it but there are still noticeable scratches and marks. This alone makes the phone a "DO NOT BUY" in my book. Maybe if it was HALF THE PRICE but not at over $600. I seriously think that the screen isn't even glass but PLASTIC. A big step backward for Samsung.

If you're a fan of the S7 or Note series then you'll love the improvements and design of the phone. The home button being phased out was different at first but definitely grew on me. I recommend this phone.

    Can't wait for phone

Ignore the review claiming it's made of plastic. It's glass and metal. If you want a stylus the note.8 is for you and you should wait otherwise this phone will be the same/similar in specs with possibly the addition of a distinguishing feature. Also, best buy....The phone is IP68 not 67

    Not what I Expected

I did the preorder on on March 30th and had extremely high hopes for this phone. Currently I have the S6+ and I was looking forward to the 6.2in screen. I went to my local BestBuy and got a chance to use the display phone. Sadly I was very disappointed. The phone is too skinny. Its not really bigger than my S6+ except it has more screen. The displays are the same and there wasn't a noticeable speed difference. The camera images were equal and besides the SD card slot, there wasnt anything worth the $800 price tag. I also think the phone felt like cheap plastic. Dont get me wrong the display is awesome, but not really a dramatic upgrade from the S6. When you put a case on this phone and trust me you need to since its all plastic, you will lose the side images. The finger print button is really close to the camera and not usable if you want to take pictures. The home button has vanished and the pressure screen where the home button should be is akward at best. Sadly, I cancelled my preorder and will wait for the Note 8. My biggest complaint is how skinny and cheap the phone feels. I highly suggest you try before you buy and not rush into an uograde.

I am a huge fan of Google nexus phone and was concerned about coming back to a Samsung with the bloatware etc. I have been really please with its performance so far, the screen is amazing. The VR options for it has been fun. The only thing I really do not like is the Bixby button and there not being an option to turn it off.

OK, but not what Samsung needed to recover

This device is OK, but not really (other than looks) what Samsung needed to produce to get back on track after the Note 7 disaster. I thought about this purchase for quite awhile and ready many reviews. I owned the Note 2 and the Note 4 previously - the Note 2 was a really great device, the Note 4 was OK, but had many weaknesses, including that the GPS antenna reception is very poor (also true of the S8+ reviewed here) and it began running brand new, fully charged batteries down in a few hours after a couple of years (this is why I replaced my Note 4 at the time I did). I had almost decided to purchase an iPhone 7, when I saw the promotion for a free Gear VR with the S8+. That convinced me to purchase the S8+ as a friend was doing VR development and it would allow me to help with that project. This promotions turned out to be somewhat obscure, whether intentionally I don't know, and I have been refused the Gear VR offer. The S8 and S8+ use Corning Gorilla Glass 5, which Corning claims to drop test from shoulder height with 80% survival from that height. The first day I had the phone, before putting a screen protector or case it, unfortunately, it fell out of my pocket, while I was sitting in a chair, onto a tile floor (measured to be a 20" drop), and the glass cracked. I was unimpressed - whether it's the glass or Samsung's design that made this so weak, I do not know. Bixby is pre-installed on the phone with a hardware button to invoke it. At least currently, Bixby is nuisance-ware and the button is very easy to press so it brings up Bixby when I'm really trying to do something else. I have not explored this extensively, but I don't see anything that Bixby provides that Google Cards doesn't do better. Wish I could reprogram the hardware key to do something useful or, better yet, that the button had not been included on the phone. There are two things I do like about the phone - the display is awesome and the fingerprint recognition works very well. The placement of the fingerprint reader on the back of the phone does not bother me as much as some reviewers I have read. Every time I start tracking a hike or walk with Samsung Health, I receive a warning "GPS signal weak." This happened with my Note 4 as well. It seems that Samsung just does not do a very good job with antennae. I am very disappointed and unhappy by the treatment I received from Best Buy and Samsung on the promotion offer. I saw, in very large print with lots of graphics, the offer for the free Gear VR, but nothing about how to get it, so I assumed that it would come with the phone. Maybe the instructions on the offer, that Samsung insists I should have seen, were hidden in the fine print, but I missed them. When the phone arrived there was only the phone, the charger, the earbuds and some adapters with two small brochures about safety and instructions - nothing about the promotional offer. When I did call Best Buy about the promotion, I was transferred a couple of times, the last time to Samsung. After several conversations with Samsung, they said that I had missed the deadline for registering for the promotion (I never saw anything saying I had to register!) and that they would not honor the offer. I will avoid doing business with either Best Buy or Samsung in the future. Bottom line, I now wish I had bought an iPhone. I much prefer the software and openness of the environment of the Samsung, but the hardware is simply inferior.

I love my new phone. It's user friendly and fun to use. However, it is far too fragile. It fell out of my purse and dropped less than an inch to the ground and the screen cracked. When I bought it I was told that the screen protectors are no good and not to waste money on it. Best buy won't do anything to help and Samsung won't make it right so now I am stuck with a cracked phone for 2 years. Great phone but be careful and make sure you buy the extended protection because without it your warranty doesn't cover anything.

This phone is great. Great battery life used youtube with screen off for 8+ hours still had 80% battery left compared to my mate 9 and iphone 7 plus which would drain to 30%. The only bad thing about the phone is the back scratches really easily. Had it for less than a day and it the whole back is scratched already. When you get it put a case on right away.

I am an ardent Samsung phone user. I have my second S8+ after cracking the screen on the first. I used the Otter box case from the beginning. And with trivial drops the first and second phone have cracked screens. I would NOT buy this phone again.

No replaceable battery is a big pain in the neck. The factory-installed battery needs to be charged constantly. I don't know why the manufacturers are all moving to built-in batteries. This is the reason I avoided IPhones in the first place. The rounded screen edges are visually appealing. However, if you are trying to activate the touch screen near the rounded edges, it's not sensitive and hard to do. Having purchased the S3, S5 and now S8 plus, this will be my last Samsung Galaxy phone unless there are significant improvements in the utility of the phone.
