I might be team Galaxy Watch now!

---- Summary ---- Disclaimer: I own a iPhone 8 Plus and use this Galaxy Watch alongside the iOS app. Pros: - Classy design - Long-lasting battery - Rotating bezel - High-quality materials - Clear and colorful display - Accurate workout tracking Cons: - None ---- Review ---- Design: When I saw this Galaxy Watch for the first time, it left a lasting impression. Now that I wear it almost every day, the design still impresses me. With its stainless steel finish and traditional round watch face that is surrounded by a rotating bezel, the Galaxy Watch differentiates itself from its biggest competitor, the Apple Watch. As a previous Apple Watch owner, I can honestly say I envied the round watch face and intricate design of the Galaxy Watch, which makes it look almost exactly like a traditional watch. Features and functionality, which I review in detail below, are important aspects of a smartwatch, but the design is also important to me, and Samsung knocks it out of the park with this latest model. Performance: I was skeptical about how well the Galaxy Watch would sync and perform since I am an iPhone owner, but that skepticism quickly went away after using the watch on a regular basis. I have only had to reconnect the watch once, and I think that was because of an issue with my iPhone, which I had to turn off and back on. I have not had any syncing issues since then. Everything runs smoothly with little to no delay while acting on notifications and navigating on the watch. Fortunately, there has been no lag, and all notifications have appeared promptly. Features: Among many other great features, the Galaxy Watch excels at fitness tracking. With around 40 workouts that it is capable of tracking at impressive accuracy, this watch is the perfect complement to an active lifestyle. It can also measure heart rate, sleep quality, and even stress levels. Beyond health and fitness, there are many other features that are nice to have, such as “My Day”, which outlines the day ahead with calendar events, reminders and more. Spotify integration, which the Apple Watch lacks, is also admirable. Another feature definitely worth mentioning is the ability to choose between countless watch faces, each with their own unique look and way of displaying unique information. They all look great and the Galaxy Watch’s screen can be set to always on. Verdict: After owning the first generation Apple Watch, and comparing it to this Galaxy Watch, I am on team Galaxy Watch now. It is a close comparison, but the traditional watch design with high-quality materials, impressive and unique features, as well as great performance, sets the Galaxy Watch apart.

This watch is amazing! When paired with a Samsung phone it is awesome! It tracks stairs, steps, heartrate, and distance. It has changeable faces. I can answer and make calls without having to look at my phone. I am still learning all the features of the watch but it is AMAZING! I added a blinged bezzle and a cover to protect the watch from being scratched, nicked or dinged.

I wear this watch every day and all day. It has never died on me or glitched out. I love that I can call and text from it to. I have to be in the vicinity of my phone to do that but it's to be suspected since I didn't want to open another line for my watch.

I bought this watch for my wife's Birthday, she previously wore a Kate Spade smartwatch. Her old watch (KS) had lots of bugs, glitches, and the user interface for settings wasn't that good. #GameChanger she said this Galaxy watch is ! ! I wear a Samsung Galaxy S3 Frontier. These watches are the absolute best.

Bought my husband and myself the galaxy watches for Christmas. We're both very happy with them. Phone calls, texts, calendar syncing and reminders work great. I love the step tracker. Only complaint is that the battery barely lasts a day with normal use of checking the time and steps. Drains much more when using the watch for texts, calls and checking other apps. Changing the watch faces is probably my favorite part!

    Samsung's Best Smartphone

    Posted .
    Pros mentioned:
    Battery, Features, Samsung galaxy

The new Samsung Galaxy Watch is the replacement for the Gear S3, introduced in late 2016. It comes in two models based on screen size: 46mm or 42mm for smaller wrists. The 46mm watch is available in a silver trim with a black onyx band, while the 42mm version is available in midnight black or rose gold. The 46mm screen size is 1.3” while the 42mm watch has a 1.2” screen. This watch adds some new extras that you may want to consider for upgrading. Samsung has pioneered the rotating bezel with previous models as well as the Galaxy Watch. This bezel makes changing to other settings and functions a real pleasure. No more going to many submenus to find what you want to do. One of the best features is its larger battery that provides a longer time period between charges. Samsung advertises that the battery will last up to 4 days before charging. From my experience, it was closer to 2-3 days. Of course, that will vary according to personal choices such as whether you leave the display on or go to ambient mode. Keep in mind that the 42mm watch has a smaller battery, so you cannot necessarily count on up to 4 days. Samsung has added several apps you may want to add to this watch. Google Maps and YouTube are two of the apps that can be added. But there needs to be more to make this watch more functional. You also have the option of making and answering calls on this watch as long as your phone is nearby. The “Dick Tracy” function of making calls on your watch is now a reality! If fitness is your thing, the Galaxy Watch offers monitoring of your calories, heart rate, steps taken and more. It even monitors your sleep patterns to measure REM sleep. This watch can monitor close to 40 activities no matter your choice of sport. This watch runs on Tizen 4.0 and offers many watchfaces to choose from. In fact, Tizen has more watchfaces than even Android Wear. Whether you want a standard clock face or a digital one, you are likely to find one that pleases you. The Galaxy Watch is compatible with both Android and iOS devices. Be advised that I only used it with an Android phone and it worked perfectly. Setup was very easy as long as you download the Galaxy Wearable app. From this app on your phone, you can select watchfaces and use Bluetooth to connect to your watch. One of the best features of this watch is that it is easy to replace watch bands. The 46mm watch uses a standard 22m band, while the 42mm watch uses 20mm ones. Check online and you will find leather, stainless steel, nylon, rubber or silicon bands to perfectly match the Galaxy Watch. These watches use a quick-release tab that makes it easy to swap bands. For $350 I would have preferred this watch with a metal stainless band. But for $30 or less I can have the band that Samsung failed to include. Unfortunately, the Galaxy Watch is not perfect and does have some drawbacks. The primary complaint is with Bixby, Samsung’s voice-activated assistant. In needs further updates to make it as flexible as Siri or Alexa! One of Samsung’s selling points is the sleep monitoring function noted above. But be advised that if you leave the watch on the charger overnight, you can’t track your sleep patterns. The last complaint is that Samsung needs to add even more apps to make this watch more functional. The Galaxy Watch offers many new features that makes this watch attractive. However, if you own a Gear S3 this watch is an enhancement to the Samsung line—not a dramatic game-changer! But if you are new to smartwatches, the Samsung Galaxy Watch is one to seriously consider.

I’ve been using the Samsung Galaxy 42mm smartwatch for a few weeks now. I’m really enjoying it a lot for many reasons. There are many customizations you can add for watch faces and notification alerts. The watch pairs perfectly with my Samsung S9 Android phone. My phone normally lives in my front trouser pocket at all times, which means I need to pull out the phone many times throughout the day to see who is pinging me. But now I can simply flick my left wrist to see what my phone is making a fuss about and either choose to investigate further by pulling out my phone or ignoring the alert. So in effect, this is saving me from carpal tunnel syndrome of constantly pulling out the phone out of my pocket every time it buzzes me. Alternately, I can simply respond to say a text message through the watch by replying back with a simple smiley face emoji or a pre-set saved message such as “can’t talk now, will call you later” or whatever. Also cool is the ability to speak a voice message reply through my watch and send it by text as an audio file…very convenient! Again, this saves me from having to pull out my phone out of my trouser pocket yet again another time lol. I can also view my email messages too through my watch, plus see who is calling me and choose to answer the call via the watch if I want to. Total Dick Tracy action! Granted, my particular Galaxy watch cannot make calls (only receive calls) because I don’t want to pay a monthly subscription for the LTE version, it’s still a cool feature to be able to answer calls via the watch. Besides getting instant alerts via the watch, the other major reason for getting a smartwatch is to have customized watch faces with LARGE font sizes so I can easily read the time, day, date and other info without putting on reading glasses. This is why I’m retiring my various collection of cool multifunction Citizen Ecodrive analog watches, because I can no longer read the small font sizes for day and date info, etc. I now have installed many dozens of free watch faces, the one I like in particular is called “Iris26” because of its large font sizes and lots of useful info on the screen such as steps walked, heart beat rate, battery life, etc. The rotating bezel is a really cool feature for navigation/scrolling in addition to the touch screen. The other week, a coworker with an Apple watch was amazed that I can watch movies via a Youtube-like app..haha! My significant other with her Fitbit Versa was utterly jealous of the many features of my Galaxy watch. Battery life is quite excellent. I leave the house at 6:30am with my watch at 100% battery life, it’s usually around 85% battery life about 1:00pm. I really like the black on black design of this watch, I much prefer all black versus the silver tone on the 46mm model. Plus the 42mm version fits my wrist better. The silicon wristband is quite comfortable on my wrist, plus I hardly feel the weight of the watch on my wrist. The screen is very readable even in direct sunlight and is very responsive by touch. I like the Samsung Health app on the watch paired to my S9 phone. I am not a die-hard athlete by any stretch, so all I really need is a casual health tracker, so this Galaxy watch suits me well. As others have pointed out, Bixby is virtually useless. I dislike Bixby on my Samsung phone and it’s equally useless on my Samsung watch. I asked Bixby on the watch how far is the earth from the moon (ala the TV commercial), and Bixby got confused and gave the usual “Please check it on device” display message. The other watch app I use often is the alarm which I have set to ring and vibrate every week day Monday through Friday at 5:30am, but off on the weekends. Very useful! The alarm function works perfectly even when I set the watch on “Goodnight” mode before going to bed. All in all, I’m very satisfied with this Galaxy watch, it now deserves a spot on my left wrist!

    Good Smartwatch with Some Shortcomings

    Pros mentioned:
    Battery, Design, Samsung galaxy

Overall I’ve been very happy with the Galaxy Watch. It’s solidly built and has a great interface. It also has excellent fitness tracking built-in. Although it’s compatible with most Android phones, it feels like you need a Galaxy phone to really take full advantage of it. I’m a big fan of the design of this watch. It’s got a classic look that doesn’t scream smartwatch or fitness tracker. The 42mm model isn’t terribly bulky and fits my wrist well - I’m a taller guy and was worried the smaller model might look strange on my wrist. I’ve had a few minor brushes and knocks wearing this on my wrist and so far the watch has held up very well. The screen sits below the bezel, which helps to keep it from scratching, and the rotating ring and the buttons are both very solid and clicky. I wasn’t that happy with the silicone wristband that comes with the watch; I could never quite get the right fit and it always seemed like it was either too tight or too loose. Fortunately, any 20mm watch band will work with the Galaxy Watch and I was able to find another one that I’m very happy with. There was a small learning curve for me to navigate the interface of the watch, but once I got it everything felt very natural. The entire outside bezel acts as a scroll wheel and it makes it really easy to navigate the smaller screen. The screen is also bright and sharp and I’ve seen no noticeable stutters in performance while using the watch. The battery life is excellent; I’ve got through the end of each day with 50+% battery left. The onboard apps are all very solid, especially Samsung Health. All the basics are there including phone, calendar, alarms, music, etc. How much you want to interact with those things on such a small screen is up to you, but Samsung does a good job of laying them out. One thing that I found while using this with my Pixel 2 was that I could get alerts and respond to text messages from the watch, but there was no dedicated messages app available to me on the watch. It seems like this is probably due to the fact that I’m not using Samsung’s text message app, but it’s odd because the phone and calendar app do a fine job of accessing my contacts and appointments, so I’m not sure why the onboard messages app can’t access my texts. It’s good that the basics are there because app support is limited; outside of some fitness oriented stuff I didn’t see a lot of true 3rd party apps in the app store. Samsung Pay is also onboard and that works well, though without a fingerprint reader or face scanner to authenticate you’re left to plug in a pin number on the watch before it’s activated. It works well, but it doesn’t feel as natural to use as just pulling my phone out of my pocket and holding it up to the reader. My biggest problem with the Galaxy Watch is Bixby, the built-in assistant. It’s just trash and is vastly inferior to anything from Google, Apple, or Microsoft. It misunderstands me about 50% of the time, often the wake command does not work, and the voice is very robotic. I know Samsung has a lot invested in Bixby, which give me hope that it might get better over time, but it’s got a long way to go. Overall I’m happy with everything this watch has to offer and it’s the one I wear every day now. I think it’s a great choice for anyone with an Android phone, Galaxy or not. If you have an iPhone this is a no-go; it’s technically compatible, but it’s severely limited by iOS restrictions.

Had a Fitbit 1st then switched to my Galaxy watch and for a few bucks more it does alot more. Love the fact it can be customized to your liking.

Bought this for my wife & she loves it! She only wished it had a different option for the band (she ended up buying another one & we swapped it out).
