Battery life for days. Great upgrade to the line!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am upgrading from the Galaxy Watch 3 to the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. I was a little nervous going from Tizen to Wear OS but I am definitely happy I did. Something about Wear OS just feels more fluid and smoother. Overall Samsungs interface intertwine with Wear OS is a very nice touch. Battery on the watch is phenomenal. I typically can get 3 day use out of a single charge and that is before the watch battery adapts to how I use it. The sleep tracking is very spot on and you can even select an option to record how long your snoring while sleeping. I find this useful as I fear I may suffer from sleep apnea so this is a great tool to help me better identify how serious my symptoms of it may be or if I'm just a bad snorer and nothing more. Fitness wise, I go to the gym almost everyday. My treadmills at my gym has the ability to connect the watch to it, which works seamless and keeps track of my progress on the treadmill. One thing I really really like is the watch will give me a report of my heart rate and how much time my heart rate was at a certain rate during a specific time period. For example, it tells me that my heart rate was in a range for 11-12 minutes of weight control. I take this as my heart rate was going at a pace that helped burn fat better. Overall, I really like the design of this watch. I was worried I'd miss the physical dial rotation on it but the touch sensitive one works just fine. The strap is unbelievable comfortable too. Hands down one of the best watch straps I've used on any smart watch. I know there is so much more this watch can do that I haven't hit on, it's advertised to be a great outdoor watch for hiking and trails, but I haven't had a chance to test this out yet, I have no doubt it'll work great for this purpose though. I am glad I jumped on this watch and it goes great with my Galaxy Fold 4. Strongly recommend this watch for any Samsung/Android user.

mostly great but why get rid of the physical dial?
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro - mostly great, but why get rid of the physical rotating bezel / dial? This is a big watch. Just keep that in mind, especially if you are a woman. The watch also feels a bit heavier than most other watches on your wrist. I happen to love the watch size, having always liked G-Shock sized watches before getting smart watches of any kind. This watch is THICK, I guess for that bigger battery, and new health sensor designs, but the thickness actually feels fine for me, and only noticeable when off your wrist. It comes with a really great new magnetic buckle strap. It takes a few tries to get to fit perfectly, but once it does it provides the best fit I have ever had on any smart watch ever. I didn’t have to mess with it once I got it set right. This kept the stellar fitness tracking functions working much better than my previous smart watch. There are a few more fitness related features on this 5 Pro model, including something called track back, which helps if you are out walking and want to go back to exactly the same starting point you came from. The fantastic large screen is great for looking at the map, haptic feedback which feels great, and turn by turn directions to get you back to your starting location. This is a great function while out walking in the woods, where there might be no real walking path for example. Notifications are a dream on this watch. Very fast, and love the feedback vibration, and haptic feedback just feels great. Glad they put in a big battery as this would really drain a smaller battery down much faster I would imagine. I was able to make a few phone calls directly through the watch microphone and speaker, and it works very well, especially if you have your hands full and want to take a call without holding your phone. My only real con on this Watch 5 pro. I have had a Galaxy Watch 4 classic, which is a great watch all around, but always had bad battery life. But, that watch had a physical bezel on it. That physical bezel just FEELS good. It is responsive, it works great. This new Watch 5 pro, is virtually the same spec wise as the Watch 4 classic, with the Watch 5 Pro having a much larger capacity battery and better for those tracking fitness activities and a much more rugged design. But, this new Watch 5 Pro has gotten rid of the physical bezel, and gone back to an inferior touch screen bezel. This isn’t that bad, however the physical bezel was the best, and it baffles me why they got rid of it. If you use this watch for fitness, and your hands are sweaty it becomes much less accurate to use. This is a big downgrade if you are coming from any of the previous Galaxy watches that had a rotating bezel on an otherwise stellar watch, especially when this watch is significantly more expensive, unless you really need all the other fitness and health upgrades and large capacity battery. For me, this watch strikes a good balance between a great smartwatch and a great fitness tracker. This is my favorite smartwatch so far, but please bring back the rotating physical bezel in future versions samsung.

Latest & Greatest
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Every summer into the fall season Samsung releases a new iteration of their Galaxy devices ranging from the more recent foldables, the traditional candy bar style phones and the wearables. I recently picked up the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro I wanted to see what Samsung had created being that I am an avid user of the brand. As far as wearables go, I first got into them when I first purchased the Galaxy Gear S3 Classic way back in 2016. The sleek clean look is what drew me in. I then replaced my Gear S3 with the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic in 2021. I have been using Samsung watches for a little more than six years. :::Initial Impressions::: Upon opening the box, you will find the watch itself the new clasp style band and a small magnetic USB Type C wireless charging dock. Figuring out the clasp mechanism took me about a minute to figure out. It is adjustable but not in the traditional sense like a double clasp watch the mechanism is magnetic and is solid and doesn’t come undone at all. I typically get the Grey or Silver like watches but opted for the Black variation this time around and it looks great. I was really surprised with the fact that Samsung yet again is trying to do away with the Rotating bezel. I found it to be a distinctive feature that was unique to Samsung and it was more than a convenience but more on that later in the review. :::General Thoughts::: Depending on who you ask as whole the Galaxy Watches have taken a few steps back and some forward throughout the release of each watch. I saw what the watches used to do and can do and, in that sense, there are more obvious changes that were made from a design and software perspective. For those coming from a legacy Tizen OS device this will be quite the change because the Wear OS software had only recently been adopted by Samsung with the previous generation Watch 4 Series of smartwatches being the first devices that Samsung offered with Wear OS. There are differences between the two operating systems but the biggest advantage Tizen “had” over Wear OS was battery life. Tizen was optimized over the years to have outstanding battery life and that has mostly been the Achilles Heel of Wear OS along with a lack of support from software developers. In all reality the same could be said about Tizen with the lack of popular apps that one would find on competing platforms like Apple. But a watch’s worth is measured by the owner. :::Battery & Design::: One of the main features of the GW5 Pro is the battery life. And after my testing I have been able to get through three days of use which is what was expected of the Tizen OS devices. But then again not everyone uses their device like I do so YMMV. When I do use my watch for fitness purposes then I will get close to two days of battery life. I like to use my watch for sleep tracking, fitness and for notifications and phone calls. Fitness tracking was a cinch previously thanks to the rotating bezel. I find myself frustrated at the gym sometimes because I forget that there is no physical rotating bezel. It is still there but it is now digital and it does work well it is more a muscle memory reaction having used a watch with a rotating bezel for six years or so. In fact, I believe the design of the pro is for those who had previously been used to the rotating bezel. Compare the standard watch 5 to the Pro and you will see the design difference because the outer ring is elevated on the pro as where there are very slim bezels on the standard 5. Sleep tracking, I can’t notice any improvements or with fitness. I do not use the GPS feature on my watch because I find it to be confusing having to find and load GPX files it isn’t cut and dry like using GPS on your phone is but that may be different with the LTE version of the watch. I really tried to figure it out and I was frustrated with that. I manually use Maps on my phone and then track my bike rides through the watch with the aid of my phone. That is my preferred method and it is a whole lot easier for me. Design wise I am not really a fan of the plain look of the GW5 pro I really loved the design of the Classic line of watches. My solution to that is simple I kept my GW4 Classic and use that when I am going out with my wife for a night out on the town or have an important meeting to attend. Otherwise, my GW5 pro is my main watch. I long retired my Gear S3 I just can’t get rid of it because it looks great. :::Pros & Cons::: Pros 1. Large display 2. Improved battery life 3. Rugged 4. New magnetic clasp strap Cons: 1. Bland design 2. Really miss the rotating bezel :::Closing thoughts::: I really would have preferred that Samsung make a base, classic and pro watch which would offer something for everyone. I know that in time I will get used to not using the bezel but I really prefer the look and feel of the classic. I would need more time to figure out how to find and upload GPX files it just seems like a lot of work just to track your workout I do not see the purpose yet. Maybe in time I will but as of now I just won’t. :::TL;DR::: Samsung is trying something new here and I like the direction this is headed in but taking away a loved product and then not offering an alternative isn’t cool. I am hoping next year we see the return of the classic people like myself own more than one watch it is a missed opportunity. Overall, this is a solid device but I don’t quite see what is so pro about it. Go try it out for yourself if you like Smartwatches and need the latest and greatest.

Impressive
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Samsung Galaxy 5 pro is a very nice, smart and capable watch. I had an S3 and loved it. So, the S5 is a big improvement. Out of the box the watch had a 81% charge for those that cant wait to start. I fully charged it with the included charger (USB-C no outlet included) charging from 80 to 100% only took less than 10 minutes. After charging I downloaded the app and fired up the watch on my S22. Pairing was almost immediate, very easy, just a few clicks and the watch was good to go, it also logged in to my previous s3 account and wanted to know if I wanted to restore those settings. I started fresh. After downloading a few watch faces and setting up the notifications on my watch, I was ready to test. Phone calls were answered and the other person couldn’t tell if I was on my phone or watch, emails ..very easy to view and respond, same with texts, health notifications were all good, even apps with multiple accounts. Most all settings are tweaked from the app which is very user friendly. I downloaded the healthmate app and enjoyed using the sleep, EKG, Pulse/heart rate. The sleep app logged the length, got a sleep score, 02 levels. I also setup the measure snore activity (even records you) I had previously set the app up to recognize when I was exercising. I tested this on a brisk walk. The pro didn’t miss a beat. When I was done, I checked the app and it logged my walk, also included GPS coordinates, speed, pace and distance as well. From the watch you can pick from a multitude of exercises, like swimming, biking, running, lifting, exercise bikes, treadmill and ellipticals. More than I could ever use, and for people who are fitness gurus. This will log about everything for you, for those who want to lose weight, you can measure your body composition and set target weights. The app will also provide tips. As far as the fit goes, once you get the band set to your liking, I forget I’m even wearing it. The silicon band is very comfortable. If its not for you, they have nicer bands you can acquire. The size of the 45mm is not real big. To me its average of a wristwatch (I don’t have big arms either) maybe a little thicker. The build is solid, titanium case with a sapphire crystal crown. Performance comes from a Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 chip, same as the 4 but very capable Gone from the new watch is the turn dial, now everything is swiped, or touch the screen in a circular motion to flip screens like turning the dial. The battery is awesome, it states up to 80 hours but a lot less if you leave the display on all the time (I have mine set to turn on when I lift my arm and I was able to get 5 days out of mine wearing it. Loose your phone or watch? You can ping to go off making it easy to find. I love the new 5 Pro, it does everything and more. If I plan to try out new exercises the watch is ready for me, the built-in temp sensor has not been activated yet as of this review. But it would be nice to get this asap. I would recommend this to friends and family!!

Enormously Solid
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Before talking about this new Galaxy Watch 5 Pro, I’d like to first say that my previous watch was the Galaxy Watch Active 2. Naturally, I’m analyzing how these two watches compare to one another, while assessing how much of an upgrade the 5 Pro is. My first impression is that the 5 Pro is a huge watch… the biggest I’ve owned so far. Honestly, it is really too big for my wrist, but I really wanted all the features that the Pro offered, versus the Watch 5. I’ve included some photos to see how the watch looks on my wrist. As a frame of reference, I’m a woman with small-average size wrists. It’s also a noticeably heavier watch. The band that came with the watch, the new D-Buckle Sport, is a great band, but I feel the no-gap design leaves more space between the watch and my wrist than necessary. I tried changing to a silicone band that I had on hand and it definitely made the watch look like it fit a bit better. Maybe on a larger wrist, this watch and the D-Buckle would look and fit better. The magnetic closure is a nice touch. That all being said, I am not knocking off any stars, just because this watch is too big for my wrist. Just something to keep in mind if you have smaller wrists. The first feature that made me choose this watch over the Watch 5 is the larger battery. I received the watch, charged to 100%, and had it on my wrist at 2:00pm on day 1. On day 3, at around 10:30pm, the battery level was at 23%. During this time, the watch AOD (always on display) was off. There was significant usage and screen-time setting up the watch and choosing a watch face. For exercise, I had one 25-minute walking session. I also wore it to sleep one night, with night mode on, and an alarm set. It was interesting to see my sleep score. I know that I don’t always sleep very well, but seeing the data was kind of surprising. It said that I was awake 4 times during the night, which it calculated to being around 32 minutes. I do not remember actually being awake that much so I’m left wondering about the accuracy of this. It says I burned 399 calories while sleeping so that’s a plus. One thing I noticed is that the watch can track snoring. The next time I wear my watch to sleep, which I don’t do all the time, I will turn it on to show my spouse the amount of snoring I have to endure… and why I wear earplugs. The next time I charged my watch to 100%, I tested it with AOD on. Other than not taking the time to set up my watch, my usage was pretty much the same. The 2nd day at around 10:00pm, the battery was at 32%. Obviously, having the AOD on used the battery up faster, but I still got a solid 2 days out of the watch. One thing to note, the nights where my watch was just sitting on my nightstand, not charging, it lost about 7% battery overnight. Turning off WiFi did not seem to change this overnight discharging. As I write this, my watch was at 100% yesterday morning at 5:30am and it’s currently at 59% at 3:30pm, with AOD off. I’m noticing that the watch’s Raise Wrist to Wake feature is very responsive… much more so than the Active 2. For this reason, I will mostly wear the watch with AOD off to maximize battery usage. One feature that my Watch Active 2 did not have was the Google integration. I really like that Samsung finally decided to play nicely with Google. The first app I installed was Google Wallet. I mean, after all, Samsung Pay is really not supported out there like Google Pay is. You might call it lazy, but it really is convenient to just hold my watch up to a pay terminal versus having to take my phone out. My other must-have is Google Assistant. Nothing against Bixby, but I’ve been a Google geek for a long time and I’m just use to the Google Assistant. I altered the home key on the watch so that the long press brings up the Google Assistant. It actually surprised me one night. We have Google Home devices all around our home and I was setting an alarm on the one in my daughter’s room. Just with my voice, my watch responded and set an alarm before my daughter’s device did. I told Google (on my watch) to cancel the alarm and it did. It’s very responsive on the watch. Activity tracking on this watch is much like that on the Active 2, but with some slight differences. One being the automatic workout tracking. It seems that this feature kicked in a bit sooner on the Active 2 than on the 5 Pro. According to Samsung, “You must work out for 10 minutes in order for the automatic workout detection feature to detect the related workout activities you perform”. While walking my (big) dogs at a fairly good pace, it took closer to 15 minutes to start tracking. The Active 2 definitely kicked in sooner, with the same activity. I need to test this out more to see if it was a fluke or if this watch takes a bit longer to detect exercise. One thing that was cool was, during the walk, the dogs stopped to sniff something. I looked at my watch and the tracking timer was paused. While looking at it to figure out why it stopped, the dogs started walking again, so did I and the watch tracking time started up again. I was not expecting that feature. It will be something I keep an eye on when performing/tracking other exercises, but so far that’s a very handy feature. Overall, this is probably the best quality smartwatch I’ve owned… and I’ve had plenty, dating back to the Pebble smartwatch. This is a solid, tough yet refined-looking watch. It’s a quality smartwatch and fitness tracker with great battery-life for the functionality that it offers. If you have an Android phone and love smartwatches, this is a great addition.

The bar is set high
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. While I was told beforehand not to pair and use the Watch 5 Pro with a Google phone, I went and did it anyway. This is not to say that it does not work with a Google phone. It’s just a warning that the user experience may not be optimal when using it. So with that out of the way… Using the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro (W5P henceforth) has been nice. Much of what Samsung has promoted with the W5P is on their website. So I won’t go into details about it. One of the issues with smartwatches is purpose. If you need one that keeps track of your fitness and exercises, there are other makes and brands that likely can do it better. Yet smartwatches as a utility is a niche market. And that’s a complicated matter. As a whole, the W5P is a utility watch that is intended to do anything a smartwatch can possibly do – track your exercises, heart rate, control your music playback, to name a few. Yet the problem with a utility smartwatch is that the more abilities you put into it, the more complicated the software that runs it will be. The W5P is powered by Google’s WearOS but its interface is skinned entirely by Samsung. On the surface, it appears and works similar to older Samsung smartwatches. Yet at the same time, due to Samsung skinning WearOS on the W5P, you also get Samsung’s unnecessary duplication of apps. On the software side of things, some of Samsung’s watch apps do things better than Google’s own. However, building your health data on Samsung’s apps also means needing to jump through a lot of hoops just to get started – account creation, and granting more permissions than I’d like. You also cannot sync your data across platforms too, meaning those data points you accrue in Samsung Health cannot be transferred or synced to Google Fit, which is immensely disappointing in so many ways. The only way to transfer those data is to use a 3rd party app and there isn’t one that is truly free. Samsung has touted its bigger battery. So to see if that holds true, I topped off the watch on Friday night and could only get it down to 3% by Monday evening. This is quite impressive to me but doesn’t tell the whole story. To get it to last that long, I did not have Always On display set until late Monday afternoon. ECG monitoring was not turned on nor am I able to turn it on due to it being walled behind Samsung’s app store. The watch was also worn at all times, including during sleep, but was taken off during bathing despite that it has IP68 and ATM5 water resistance. Also of note is that Samsung also promoted its fast charging, claiming to go from 0% to around 45% in 30 minutes. One website seems to dispute this claim, writing that 30 minutes got them to 30%. With the above description of the scenario, I ran my personal timing using a phone as a timer and starting as soon as the watch indicated it was charging. In 30 minutes, the W5P went from 3% to 50%, which surprisingly is better than what Samsung promoted. Charging was done using the included charger connected to an Anker 735 (Nano II 65W) purchased from Amazon. Wearing the W5P is a small adjustment, having used the first generation Watch. The new strap band is silicon but is perhaps one of the nicer ones. After trial and error, I managed to find the length point that fits around my wrist perfectly. Unlike most traditional bands, where there are holes to fit a certain size, a person’s wrist could be between two of the size holes. In other words, no more a little too tight and a little too loose. This band is adjustable to be sized perfectly for your wrist. While taking the watch off is simple enough (detach the magnetic lock), putting it on can be a small juggle. But I got used to it after a while. Overall, I’m impressed and liked the W5P. There are some features that I did not cover and I apologize for that. But in the limited time that I can test some of the functions, I came away liking it as a whole. There are high expectations for another smartwatch from a certain search empire company. But I think Samsung hits the nail on the head for much of what a smartwatch can do. It sets the bar very high and it will be very difficult for any other company to top that. Naturally, there are drawbacks. ECG monitoring is walled behind Samsung’s app store. Samsung Health cannot export nor sync data to Google Fit for data redundancy or platform interoperability. And lastly by some strange design, the watch cannot be charged with a capable Samsung phone. Verdict: A good buy The Good: long battery life, fast charging, new band/strap design fits almost any wrists The Bad: Samsung Health cannot export/sync health data to Google Fit The Ugly: the embarrassment of not knowing how that new strap operates

It looks really nice and strong. It has a good battery and it is really easy to set up. It has a nice variety of apps and a really good connection to the cellphone. The Galaxy Watch5 Pro is incredibly nice
|Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Fantastic watch in every regard, Titanium build is far more lightweight than the previous iterations of the higher end galaxy watches, and still retains durability, user interface is more intuitive than ever and the apps are fare more easily accessible. The watch band with it is finicky at first to adjust to the right size, but once you find the sweet spot, it becomes very easy to put on, while remaining secure and comfortable. The watch retains a very premium product feel, having used the original Galaxy Watch for roughly 4 years now, and having retained the incredible battery life throughout that period, I was pleasantly surprised with a further improved battery life with the Watch5 Pro, from my previous watch, the new integrations for the watch map tracking, as well as integrations with Google based apps and third party also (downloaded through Google play store) are fantastic added features and we're much needed. The Watch5 Pro can take continuous measurements of Heart Rate, Blood Oxygen, etc. And does it while still maintaining incredible battery life. This is a great watch for very active smart watch users who need something durable, reliable, and can afford the higher price tag, the main reason I docked it from 5 stars to 4 stars is the attempting use of the digital touch bezel controls, and the relegation of the physical rotating mechanical bezel that was seen on the previous Galaxy Watches, such as the Watch 4 Classic. The digital bezel works, but not well enough to rationalize the change, it has a slight delay, making it less intuitive on the fly. I am an endurance cyclist, and that slight misstep delay on the digital bezel can be a deal breaker when I'm actively riding and every second that my hands aren't on handlebars can be crucial to safety. Having used the physical bezel for a cross country trip, it makes a big difference for users like myself. Who tend to be the target audience for this high end watch. The watch charger is very fast, snappy, and magnetizes well, the only issue I had was that the watch band made putting it on the charger a nuisance since the watch band has to stay in a loop shape to maintain the right fit. However the charging puck is magnetized on both sides, allowing it to stick to both the watch and the surface below it. I wound up returning it strictly with the possibility of the upcoming Watch6 Pro/Classic, (supposedly coming out next month) having a physical bezel once again.

Rugged, Attractive, Smart, GPS, Fitness Watch!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Galaxy Watch5 Pro Titanium is 100% solid. You don't need to buy additional protective enhancements or watch bands to protect it. This watch is beefy and constructed to withstand abuse. It is very attractive, straight out of the box. I love the magnetic watch band clasp, the size, and the overall aesthetics of the watch. If you're thinking of pulling the trigger, don't second-guess yourself. Pull the trigger because this watch is definitely worth it!

Best Smartwatch I've Ever Owned
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This watch is the best smartwatch I’ve ever had. I was originally concerned about how big the watch is. My wrists are small, quite small in fact. The watch is huge. It completely covers the top of my wrist. But it works. Surprisingly it is not in the way and I don’t catch it on things like I was afraid I might. At first, I considered purchasing a replacement band that fits my wrist size better. But I actually like the sport band. The magnetic clasp makes it so easy to slide off when I need to charge. Yet it keeps the watch securely on my wrist otherwise. The display is bright and easy to read. With the Galaxy Wearable (Wear) app, there is a nearly infinite number of customizations available. Battery charges seem to be good for about three days. I usually charge it every couple of days though so it doesn’t go dead at an inopportune moment. The watch stays connected to my Galaxy phone consistently, unlike my previous smartwatch. Some people have stated they have trouble with the sleep tracking feature on this watch, but that seems to work fine for me. It accurately logs when I go to sleep and when I wake up. I can’t tell for sure if it is accurate about the sleep phases. I’m not convinced it is completely accurate on the step counts though. But it could just be that I wish I took more steps each day, too. I do think it is close enough for what I need though. I like that it senses when I go for a walk jog and offers to record my track. My only wish is that Samsung offered the Watch5 Pro Titanium in 2 sizes. This size and a slightly smaller size. Same exact features, only just a bit smaller.

Stylish Design Meets User-Friendly Tech
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro is a stylish and well-built smartwatch that offers a great user experience. The watch's classic design with a titanium body and a sapphire crystal screen looks great on the wrist and feels very durable. The user interface is easy to navigate, making it simple to accept calls, track your fitness activities, and follow maps while you're on the go. One thing to keep in mind is that while the battery life is good, it could be even better. Especially for users who heavily rely on GPS tracking features. However, with typical use, you shouldn't have any complaints and can easily get through a day or more on a single charge. Overall, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro is a great choice for Android smartphone users who are looking for a stylish, durable, and easy-to-use smartwatch.

Great watch with a long battery life
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Galaxy Watch 5 Pro has probably the best battery life among all previous versions of the series. It easily lasts more than 2 days after a full charge. It is very comfortable on the wrist and does not feel too bulky. It does not have a rotating bezel which the Watch 4 had so you might be a little disappointed if you were used to navigating stuff using the rotating bezel. All in all, very happy with the purchase.
