From a premier brand like Samsung, I'd hoped for a bit better. My first one was faulty out of the box. It wouldn't turn on with any SD card in it. It would turn on without a card only (which defeats the purpose) and it wouldn't take a system update. I returned to BestBuy and the next one did work fine. The only issue I had is that after 2 ten minute recording sessions back-to-back in the French Quarter of New Orleans it over heated and shut itself off. Otherwise, it's been working. It's pretty picky about memory cards. If you don't have at least a fast class 10, it won't even use the card. I had to buy a new card to keep up with the 4k demand. The picture quality is ok, it is actually 4k. You have to manually change the setting to get 4k, though. The navigation of the system is a bit unusual, but you can get the hang of it with time. It works stand-alone, but can also be controlled through an Android or iOS device. You have to turn the camera into a wifi hotspot for that, and it drains the batteries faster that way. I prefer to use it on its own. The free software is only ok. You can use it to stitch (it takes a very long time) and share online. If you want to edit, you'll need some other software. I'm using Magix Movie Edit Pro 2018. Much better software for editing. Also, the samsung software has crashed my Mac a few times, too. All the cons aside, there is no more affordable way to get 4k 360 video. Keep in mind it is 4k using all 360 deg of video. So each quarter of the video (what you'd see at one time with VR glasses on) is about 1080p. Still pretty good. Long story short, great entry 360 camera if you get lucky enough to avoid one of the many flawed ones people keep getting and use your own editing software.

PROS Improved 4K video capture. Smaller and lighter than previous version. Supports live streams. Compatible with iOS and macOS. Affordable. CONS Buggy iOS app. Not submersible. 4K footage limited to 24p frame rate. 4K files are huge. Android support limited to Samsung handsets. Live streaming not supported on all platforms. Non-removable battery. BOTTOM LINE Samsung's second version of the Gear 360 improves on the original, delivering better video and a more refined user experience, but the iOS app needs work.

I was hoping this camera would be a great entry point for shooting 360 degree video. I was hoping this camera would eliminate the need for multiple camera mounts and stitching. It hasn't lived up to my expectations. One of the first problems I had was this camera has an overheating issue. Under certain conditions the clips shut off after about 5 to 10 minutes. I was experiencing the problem using a dashboard gimbal in my car. I could barely get a 5 minute clip recorded without a 10 minute cool down period in between. Mind you the sun was out, and the dash was a little warm. But the windows were open, and there was good air flow. The second big problem I have with this camera is that I don't have a compatible Samsung phone. The phone control works ok on iOS, but to use the clips from the camera you have to import them to your computer and stitch the file. I was hoping the camera would record and stitch the clips automatically. The import and stitch process isn't a great experience with the PC software. First you have to copy the files from the camera to the PC. The you open the software and add the videos to your project. At this point the software begins to stitch you clips, but you can't use them until the process is complete. You'll see a progress bar on each of the clips. It stitches one at a time, and it takes a long time. I waited around 45 minutes for about 20 minutes of video. I still haven't explored the other features of the software. I've gotten a bit frustrated with the camera at this point. I could probably work with the limitations of the computer software taking forever to import a clip. But the overheating issue could become a big problem in areas without ventilation. It would probably be a good idea to check out some other 360 degree camera to see which ones are more reliable.

I've been waiting for this Hammer to come down in price and it did. I've used it at Disneyland as well as the beach and the quality is incredible. The only problem is that they don't give you enough information in their manual. But you can download the full manual and learn a lot more. Once you are able to download the application to remotely control it. It's even more fun. There was complaints that it powered down, I haven't had that happen to me yet and have used it in warm and cold weather.

Never using a 360 camera before I was hesitant to jump in. However, the instructions on setup and then ease of use of the Samsung 360 Gear app made it very easy to get started. I love the quality of the video it provides and the smooth integration made it worth it.

The real limit of this device is the few sharing options that you have. It is difficult to share a 360 picture or video in ways other than Facebook or Youtube, which is definitely taking off a bit of the fun from the experience. You cannot really send 360 pictures via Whatsapp or other similar apps, but you can automatically assemble them in wide landscape pictures. I did not particularly enjoy watching the videos and pictures on the Samsung Gear VR either. When you look at these pictures with your handset, you feel like an ant looking around in a weird big world. The experience is not immersive, it is not quite like reliving a memory but rather being pushed into an out of scale model. Although, I have to say that the design of the device itself is very beautiful, it is compact and easy to bring with you in the pocket and the rubber ring that it is supposed to be used as a stand works beautifully. The shooting button is conveniently located and easy to reach, the device sits comfortably in your hand and is limited in weight. The bag that comes together with the handset is soft enough to protect the camera but not bulky, still allowing the device to fit in the pocket of your coat. The camera interfaces with your smartphone via bluetooth through the app, giving you the chance to control the camera and its modalities from the phone. The app is very easy to use and intuitive. You can also import the media from the Gear 360 to the phone using the app. I heard that it may take a while to pass an HD video from the camera to the phone, but I actually found it pretty fast, considering the size of the files. The connectivity between the two devices works well, the bluetooth connection is easy and stable. The quality of the HD videos and pictures is good, but not impressive. Though, it is definitely enough for an unprofessional user. The lack of the stabilizer in the HD videos does not make it the perfect choice for those who are aiming to record their sports activities on the go. The recording and shooting modes are fun and quite helpful. I enjoyed particularly the time lapse mode, which allows you to capture video on set intervals. I think that this device is perfect for those who like to share 360 images or videos on social media platforms, it gives very good results. But if you are aiming to use it in a more private way, to shot pictures/videos and send it to a friend directly, you may find the use of this a bit frustrating. Generally a nice and fun device.

Awesome little carmera can take 180 and 360 pictures and videos. Can be taken remotely from a connected phone. So if you don’t want to be in the picture you can duck behind a tree and take the shot.

Cool portable VR cam but low res on video

Overall it has been a blast to take and post VR pics and vids on Facebook and YouTube. There are lots of opportunities to use this camera because it is super portable, easy to use, has versatile settings, and a standard tripod port. However, I took what I thought would be some beautiful VR video at the lake behind my house at sunset using the highest resolution the camera offered and there were ducks flying over the water. When I went to watch the video on my Gear 360 headset the resolution was so poor you really couldn't make out the ducks or even details of the trees. I thought it might just be the headset so I uploaded the full video to my laptop and watched on a Mixed Reality using a top of the line graphics card and resolution was still pretty low. That said, if you aren't expecting to get great resolution but some fun 360 videos and pictures (photo resolution was a bit better) then its a good device at the price.

Overall I am very satisfied with the camera. It takes quality pictures/videos and is easy to use, even for a non-tech person like me. I have 2 issues. The first is I have big hands and its size and button location cause me to push buttons I didn't intend to. The biggest problem isn't the camera, it is the disclosure before you buy. If you don't have a specific phone, i.e. Galaxy S7 or S8 or IPhone (There are others that work too) you will find it hard to use. the app needed on my less expensive galaxy On5 will not load. Be sure and do your research on what devises are compatible before you buy. I don't intend to go buy a new $500+ phone just to use the features.

Takes very good photos, videos and more. Its simple to set up and use. Recommend getting some kind of tripod standard for it tho. It doesn't always like to sit still unless it's on perfectly flat ground. Happy you can use it remotely from your phone and dont have to use the buttons built into it.

I have had some difficulty in syncing the sound to the video when viewing 3d videos, but I am just trying it out for the first time. I have found a work around, but would like if there were better integration out of the box. Overall though, the product seems to work well and I have enjoyed it for the cost.

The camera can take amazing video. Battery life is short as expected with such a small camera with high demand. My only gripe is that it only takes 3MP stills with a single camera and no optical zoom. Recording long videos is not recommended as even at room temperature I cannot record longer than * mins 25 secs. Even on a cool day at the beach and a hefty SD card installed it will not record any longer. On a breezy car ride it seems to do just fine with recording for longer. It's a good camera for unique video for when you're on vacation or visiting a new city to get a better point of view perspective, but not for everyday use.

It is amazing how such a small item can actually capture EVERYTHING all around you with a simple press of a button! It is fantastic to take on a vacation. You can bring the vacation back home to you. It allows you to feel like you are physically in the the picture or video. Capturing photos and videos is super easy, however, getting this amazing imagery into my Oculus Go is not straight forward. Once you get down the process to capture, save in a form you want and get it to a VR headset, the result is amazing.
