Tired of spending an arm n a leg for a night out with the family? We i got news for YOU. Get yourself one of these bad boys and bring the movie experience home to you! Sit back, pop a bag of popcorn and be taken on a ride in your own living room. Needles to say.... very very happy with my purchase and i guarantee you will be too!

Bad rear speakers

The rear speakers have to be up to your ears to hear. Samsung told me they would replace the rear speaker system as they admitted to there being a problem with them. I should not have trusted Samsung to replace them. Now it’s too late to return the item.

Thank you for purchasing the Samsung HW-A40R and for sharing your review. Your feedback regarding the audio performance of the rear speakers is important to us and will be shared with our product teams.
There are a few settings and adjustments that can be made to increase the volume of the rear speakers to your liking. First, make sure you have the latest firmware version installed (ver1014). Once installed, with the Soundbar on, press and hold the STANDARD button on the remote control for about 6 seconds. Use the BASS Up/Down buttons to adjust the level of the REAR speakers between -6 to +6.
Additionally, turn off the soundbar, then press and hold the source button on the soundbar for 7 seconds to enable Gain Boost. With Gain Boost active, the rear speaker’s volume level will be increased when the soundbar is in Surround mode. This feature can be turned off by following the same process.

Dont waste your time

small system packs a punch

Just got a new TV and bought this on a whim, glad I did as our old head unit had no optical input and new TV has no RCA jacks so we would have been stuck with only tv speakers. For those complaining the surround sound doesn't work check the wires are not plugged in too far in the back of the speakers, there needs to be metal/metal contact for conductivity. if the coating is in too far you will not have conductivity and the speakers won't emit sound.

The two speakers do provide that extra sound quality. The remote sound settings are easy to navigate and to understand.

Terrible product

I am currently speaking with Samsung support,,, i am told that i will not hear sound. This is crazy whomever im speaking to has no clue as to the product they are trying to give me "support " ( or lack there of ) i would definitely NOT recommend this product to anyone. I would give it 0 stars if that were an option. Also supposed to be a wireless system. Nothing about this is wireless. I would like for a supervisor or someone higher-up to reach out to me

You may want to try these troubleshooting tips:
First, please be sure you have the latest firmware version installed. You can update to the latest firmware by downloading the firmware file from the Samsung Electronics Website, load the file onto a USB storage device, and connecting the USB storage device to the soundbar. Updating your firmware provides the latest improvements and features, such as the ability to adjust the volume of the rear speakers.
Once the latest firmware version has been installed, press, and hold the STANDARD button on the remote control for about 6 seconds then use the Bass Up/Down buttons to adjust the level of the rear speakers between -6 to +6.
Additionally, you may want to check the sound settings on your TV. If your Digital Output Audio Format is set to PCM then you will likely notice decreased performance with surround sound audio systems. Dolby options are designed for surround systems (like 3.1.2 or 7.1), whereas PCM provides great sound quality for stereo speakers.
We appreciate you sharing your thoughts about the wireless description of the rear speakers.
Occasionally, customers have trouble hiding and running speaker wires from the front of the room (where their soundbar is) to the back of their room (where they have their rear speakers). The Rear Speaker Kit eliminates that hassle. Connect the rear speakers to its wireless module and place these three in the back of your room. One wire is required to connect each rear speaker to the wireless module. Then plug in the power cable to the module. The “wireless” convenience is in connecting your soundbar and any other speakers at the front of the room to the rear speakers – this can now be done via Wi-Fi through the wireless module, eliminating any clutter of long wires running the length of your room.

Ghost surround sound

Soundbar is decent, and I had no trouble establishing the rear speaker connection. However, the rear speakers have little volume. I literally have to put them to my ear to hear them. There is no adjustment for them, hence, what is the point? Most likely going to return the system as I seem to have paid for extra items that are basically non functional.

To increase the volume of your rear speakers, please try this tip:
On the Right side of the main Soundbar, there is button that looks like a rectangle with an arrow in it. This is the Source button. To activate the rear speaker gain boost, first turn off the Soundbar, then press and hold the Source key for 7 seconds. Now when SURROUND mode is selected, the rear speaker’s volume level will be increased. To de-activate the rear speaker gain boost, repeat the procedure above.
