I exchanged a Nestcam for the Samsung SmartCam primarily because the Nestcam offered no on-device recording and you were required to purchase a cloud plan at a monthly fee in order to utilize the camera properly. This camera was priced competitively. The Samsung Smartcam offers cloud service, but also has a MicroSD slot. I found the setup easy, the App intuitive with a plethora of options, and the quality to be good. Night vision is surprisingly excellent. The design, however, leaves a little to be desired. I find the camera to be a bit less attractive than the Nest, but I like that this comes in white so it blends nicely with my light colored wall. The mounting bracket offers a lot of options with positioning, however I find the 'neck' on the bracket to be a little weak and there seems to be no way to tighten it. Overall I am extremely satisfied with my purchase.

We purchased this camera to keep an eye on our dogs during the day. The camera has excellent picture and video quality. It also offers a wide view. Another great feature you can hear and speak through the camera. Allowing us to hear the dogs and talk to them as well. If you are a animal lover you'll understand. If you have young children coming home from school this camera and features would also work great for you.

Nice little camera, image is clean and clear and it has a nice field of view with the wide angle lens. Setup is easy over WiFi. Only complaint I have is the app used to access it, it appears to be buggy and won't always connect or will drop the connection while connected, also Samsungs own website to access the camera will not work and I have tried on three different computers.

Video and sound is great. I like all the features. SD slot for recording, WiFi and wired connections, software features like sound and motion alarms, 2 way talk, and play music from the webcam. The webcam is a little top heavy, which makes it a little hard to sit on a dresser. But the biggest draw back is the video feed looses connection based on the device viewing the webcam (smart phone, computer, and ipad). Unsure if it's the smartcam service or the internet provider. I have only had the cam for a week so I am still trying to trouble shoot this issue.

Worked the best compared to several other similar products. Clear video and was able to pick up some that others were not able to. Saving to your picasa album is a big bonus. Reviewing previously saved video is very easy and clear. A few settings can be adjusted from two different windows, but other than the, the app worked very well. Easy to understand and use. Motion detection worked well, sensitivity adjustments were easy to do. Would have liked to see it save longer of the video just prior to motion detection, but was comparable to other similarly priced products.

A colleague of mine bought one for his home and installed some for his brother in-law. I bought 2 for overall coverage for the first level of my home. Set-up is pretty easy. The WiFi option is convenient if you don't feel like running Cat-5/6 through your home. However, depending on your WiFi strength and bandwidth, it could get a little choppy when your viewing from your computer or cell app. The 8' power cord is a nice addition, as you could mount it nearly 10' up on the wall...depending on your outlet. Only problem I've had is when the power goes out and have to reconnect to the WiFi network...which is a hassle. In all a great product for home monitoring/security.
The software for it is relatively straightforward. You can live stream from your computer, or cell phone/tablet app (IOS, Android). Set up alerts whenever something activates the motion sensor in the camera to your preferred contact method (email, text, app notification). Also has a nightvision (sorta) mode.

The camera works just as advertised. It was effortless to set-up and takes amazing video/photos. The Wi-Fi was working within minutes after loading the app and software. My only complaint is I wish it had a battery rather than having to plug it directly into an outlet.

This camera works great! You get a clear picture! I was looking for a camera to help me figure out which of the dogs was making messes. I'm not very tech savvy with lots of stuff, but this camera was super easy to install and use. You can take pictures that save to your phone or laptop, and you can also record with a card!

We purchased one of these last year for our kitchen, basically so we can look at the app on our iphones and see what is going on when we leave our older teenagers alone haha! Recently we purchased two more to be able to view the front and back of our home. Thankfully my husband is good with computers/apps/etc. and he had them up and running in no time. We ran into a few snafus with our wifi connection, and one or two of the cameras took a little longer to get up on the iphone app, but they seem to all be working great now. The app is very easy to use, and the the camera gives a nice wide view. The two we purchased to view the front and back doors, we put under an overhang so that they do not get wet, as I don't believe they are waterproof as is, but I read you can purchase a black encasing unit to put the camera in to make them waterproof for about $35. We also ran thin extension cords into our garage, which is attached to our house, to be able to plug the cameras in somewhere. With the two outdoor cameras, we have found that as long as there is just a little tiny bit of light outside (whether from your house lights or the moon, etc.) the night vision is also very good. You can also press a button on the app and be able to speak to whoever you see in the camera, and they can speak back to you. We've startled a few of them with this feature when they didn't know we were watching! As far as the recording capabilities, we have yet to master that. We did purchase a 32 gig SD card for the camera in the kitchen, and while you're on the app, it appears as if it is recording because the digital counter is moving. I read somewhere you can record continuously for 7 days with that SD card. When we get to the point of actually using these cameras for basic security and filming of our home while we are away, we plan on learning more about the recording capabilities. I believe you can also press a button while you're watching on the app and enable the recording remotely, or possibly even record to your phone but we haven't figured out where it actually records to on your phone. The cameras are a bit expensive at $160 each, but we've made the investment for less than $500 for 3 cameras to be able to view (and eventually record) our home base, which does give us piece of mind. The best feature about these cameras is that there is NO monthly fee like some of the competitors. With this camera, you just put the app on your phone, name your cameras, sync them up with your wifi and you're good to go. The downside to the cameras is that if you lose the wifi in your home, you lose the cameras. We thought we had to physically reset them by unplugging and plugging back in, but I believe they do reset on their own and they find the wifi themselves when it comes back on. Also, when we've been on the beach or any other location where you may have trouble getting 4G service, you will not be able to open the cameras on your app. Last, I think there is a true wifi version of these cameras where you don't need to plug them into an outlet, but they were more expensive and I cannot comment on their quality etc. Hope this helps and happy viewing and recording!!!

I purchased this security camera so I could monitor my pet sitter to ensure she actually visited every day. My requirements were to have a motion-detected alert sent to my iPhone and through an app be able to at least see that it was indeed the pet sitter at my home.
This camera was extremely easy to set up and connect to my wireless network. I did this all through the app on my iPhone 5s, and I am not a tech-minded person. Settings were fairly easy to figure out. I chose to receive only motion detected alerts to my iPhone and not the audio alerts. I also narrowed the range in which those motions were being detected so that it would not catch things outside the window that moved with the wind. The video quality that I was able to view was excellent.
That is where my positives end, and thus I promptly returned this camera the next day. The motion detection alerts seemed to be unstoppable. I experimented with the sensitivity hoping it would reduce the alerts, but that did not have any effect. I am positive that there was absolutely nothing that the camera should be picking up to set off the motion alerts. Then when I did walk within the range of the camera, I received no alerts. So that sealed the deal for me as for the uselessness of this camera.
What I had hoped for was to receive and alert very near the time of an actual someone or something detected by the camera and for me to use my iPhone app to view the event in real time.
I am very disappointed that this Samsung Smartcam was not as advertised.

I bought this camera after a horrible experience with a D-Link wireless camera. The Samsung has been perfect for what we need. The app is very easy to understand and set up. Within minutes, I was up and running. The picture and sound are excellent! The ability to speak from the app through the camera speaker is a nice touch for our pets. Nice wide angle lens as well. It's not cheap, but worth the price for us.

This camera makes it easy to keep an eye on your house while your away or while you are asleep. With its own memory card slot all the video is saved directly to the device. With wifi capabilities you can put this anywhere in your house. And the picture was actually of very good quality.

This is a great camera with amazing video quality and great app. This camera works great as I tried the dropcam that is WIFI only and kept dropping since it was a little way from the router. This Samsung camera has a LAN port so I could use a wired connection for better performance

Easy set-up, works great. Looked at the SmartCam and DropCam. Uses a memory card to store recordings instead of having to pay for storage on the cloud like DropCam
