Any Files Over 300GB, Forget It

I own a video production agency and typically use Samsung SSD drives for backing up footage after a shoot day. Long story short Best Buy didn't have any Samsung external SSD drives so I was forced to get this SanDisk G Drive. Attached is a screenshot. We shot 4K RAW on a Canon C300 Mkiii, a 45 min interview was about 310GB in size. Here is a screenshot of the file not copying to our server, computer or any other external drive. The file just sits there copying and doesn't move. I had a 12TB G Drive fail me in the past and swore I'd never buy a SanDisk G Drive again and due to circumstances I had to and literally the next day after buying it, here we are, with another G Drive that won't work. Save yourself the hassle and stress and buy a Seagate or a Samsung. Thankfully the file opens in Adobe Premiere so I'm stuck exporting the file as a ProRes file to the desktop.

Great product, as a video editor. I needed something that was faster than to collect footages from others. This is also great to use if you have to do a quick turnaround. But given how low the memories are it's only 2 TB. I would like for a more affordable and more TB like a 6 TB that is also not too big and works just as fast. I have a bunch of hard drives that are 4 TB and another that is 10 TB to put all over footages from previous projects for any other reason. But I do clean ups on my drives when necessary. Overall, this SSD is amazing. Although I wish it was a little faster in reading and wiring simultaneously for larger size footages so I can work better in Prmeire Pro or Davinci. This is the best one for the price. It's pretty small in size and the cord is a good in length. I will say it does overheat at times and you will need to be in a cold room for it to handle your projects if you use any editing software.

It’s a great drive, but out of the box it is formatted for Mac and cannot be read by Windows. If you intend to use this on Windows, make sure you know how to reformat, fully initialize, and properly partition a hard drive. But once it’s ready, it really is a great drive. Both USB-A and type C, fast, light, and rugged.

This is a good device. I was surprised by how fast the SSD transfers files from the Mac to SSD. Even transfers quick from my camera. Disc is super solid and fits in the palm of my hand. Perfect for on the go. Did I mention it was fast?

This drive is exceptional and I was lucky enough to snag thr Black Friday pricing. It comes preformated as MacOS Journaled so it wont work with Windows. If you have a Mac, Id suggest using “Disk Utility” to format it to APFS (a quick Google search will help). If youre usimg Windows, plug it in, open “create and format hard disk partitions” application, and format the drive as NTFS. Id recommend not using ExFat as its super easy to get errors with that. This drive performs as promised even at sustained load. The IP67 rating is nice as its rinsable if you get it dirty. Whether youre using it for gamimg, renders, archiving etc, this is a great all around drive.

When I first connected the G-DRIVE to my Windows-11 laptop it wasn't recognized. Same thing when I connected it to my Samsung Galaxy S10 / Android system phone. It turns out the drive was pre-formatted to work with Apple operating systems only. I went to the SanDisk website and found a rather lengthy and very technical procedure to make the device compatible with Windows and Android systems. Once re-formatted, the SSD is a great addition to my local storage and system back-up resources. It came with cables that connect to both my phone and laptop and works seamlessly with both. I've trusted SanDisk storage hardware for years and have never been disappointed with their performance and reliability. Still, Windows and Android users be advised: If you're not comfortable using the Windows "Command Prompt," you might find yourself going to BestBuy's Geek Squad or calling a techie friend for help (but it will ultimately be worth it).

Using the 2tb for swapping photos to and from IPad Pro and for some reason it has issues when doing more then a few photos . Also have the 1tb for the same thing and zero issues with the 1tb . I can move 500gb photos and video with the 1tb fast with no issues

The SanDisk Professional - G-DRIVE 2 TB External USB 3.2 Portable SSD is excellent. I should have purchased this SSD when I purchased my first external hard drive which was a HHD.

Amazingly fast SSD drive for Mac

I bought the 2TB version for my MacBook Pro 2017 and Mac mini 2018. On direct connection to MacBook Pro 2017 with USB-C to USB-C cable, both write and read speed are about 900MB/s. When connecting to Mac mini via USB 3.0 hub with USB-A to USB-C cable, both write and read speed are about 425MB/s. The SSD drive is pre-formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) so Windows user beware. Mac user: You will need to reformat it to AFPS to take advantage of its SSD performance using Mac's Disk Utility.
