Mac out of the box, Windows requires installation

Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.This drive will not work with Windows until you clean the existing partitions, initialize a new one, and format it. In other words, be a geek or you'll have to ask the Geek Squad to do it for you. The specs here say it's compatible with Mac and Windows, but that's not true out of the box. It's designed for Mac, but requires further installation to run on Windows, and most of the online advice about that process leads to dead ends. That said, once I got it installed, it's a great drive, but I would have got something different had I known.

Not worth the risk of privacy to send it to WD for replacement either. Looking elsewhere; though G-Drive was the best, but in 30 years, never had a failure from any of my dozens of drives.

Used about a quarter of its capacity, now it won't even power on. I bought this as after losing all my data from another, cheaper drive, because this one was supposed to me more reliable. Would not buy again.
