I put my data on it from my hard drive when I was moving jobs within my company so I could transfer my files to the new system. Two days later the USB was empty - before I was set up on the new computer. Thank goodness IT at the old place hadn't wiped my previous computer yet or I would have been screwed. I had kept it clean and safe, away from magnets, and in a ziploc so it wouldn't get dust or dirt in it.

Compatibility Issues with Some Devices

It is not compatible with some of my computers and other devices. So I exchanged it for another and the second had the same issue. The one I purchased several months ago worked fine. I suspect the new ones are not exactly the same as the older one. I then purchased a PNY (https://www.bestbuy.com/site/pny-elite-turbo-attache-4-256gb-usb-3-0-type-a-flash-drive-black-gray/6236000.p?skuId=6236000) that works fine.

Not sure what happened but this piece of junk made itself read only during my second use and cannot be recovered. Not an uncommon problem once I dove into some of the forum posts about this product line.

I am very happy with the SanDisk Ultra 256GB Drive. It is built nicely and not to big. The slide out design works great and stays locked in place. The capacity is far more than I can imagine ever needing on a flash drive. So far, I haven't found it to get overly warm during use although that is a common thing with flash drives. Speed is great! I use it for photos. I do a lot of location photography. I usually dump my photos onto my laptop until I can transfer them later on to my main desktop for permanent storage. This drives gives me not only an easy way to transfer photos, but an extra layer of protection with the inclusion of the Flashback service included free for one year with the drive. This service works as an automatic cloud backup for whatever you place on the drive. So far, it seems to work very well. Upload speed will of course be limited by internet speed. But the safety of knowing my files are safely stored away from the drive while traveling is nice.

The first effort to load data resulted in an estimate of 5 hours..
since I was planing to move a large photo library...I stopped and thought Id use it to store some movies ....maybe 40 g worth of data ...that would have taken 2 hours...I desisted from that plan too.I will just use it like I would a LESS EXPENSIVE drive with lower storage capacity since I presume that once loaded accessing the large data file would also prove painfully SLOW!
