Don't let this item's specifications fool you when it comes to the compact dimensions cited of around 8-1/2" Wide X 4-1/2" High. I certainly was concerned about how this radio would sound and of its ability to pull in radio stations--both music (FM) and talk radio (AM).The radio has a glossy black body that looks smart. It has a 27" telescoping antenna which is about as long as the large boom boxes used to have and I live in a condominium development surrounded by buildings in a rural area and my other radios have difficulty receiving so many radio stations. More specifically, this radio is able to pull in radio stations on both the AM & FM dials that I did not even know existed in my area! I've only used it during the day prior to writing this review and they say that night time listening gives better reception. We will see. The 27" antenna mentioned above is for FM listening; however, it has an internal Ferrite antenna for the AM antenna. I was told by a Sangean representative that the reception for this radio will match the reception of some of their more expensive radios. Sangean advises for improved AM reception, it "may" be necessary to reposition this radio for better reception of some "AM" stations and I got better results doing this--when needed. There are only 5 presets for FM and 5 presets for AM; however, they are extremely easy to set and not only can you go up an down the radio dial one digit at a time, but there is a separate button to "scan" and after you press it and release that button, it will find the next radio station that your area can receive on its own. By holding down the power button, you can adjust your radio auto shut off feature in case you want to play the radio at bed time. It will shut itself off at your prescribed time. Although it only has one 2-1/2" speaker, the sound is really great! You can use six AA standard batteries or rechargeable ones, but that was the only negative for me as the rechargeable batteries can be a bit pricey; however, you can leave the rechargeable batteries in the radio and there is a special button to press to charge them in the radio. This radio also has an alarm clock to wake up to radio or a buzzer that increases in volume in tolerable increments. The user's manual is a step-by-step guide, but I haven't tried to figure out that alarm clock function yet. The radio station dial is a fairly large (relatively speaking) L.E.D. readout that is pretty easy to see. It also comes with an AC power adapter of a decent length. I keep my radio plugged into a surge protector. This radio "exceeded" my expectations and I wish that I purchased it sooner and I think that future buyers of this item will feel that way also.

The reception is great !! better than the cheap radio's Good speaker. Like the 5 preset stations. sleep, alarm I sleep different hours and I use it for alarm so easy to adjust. you can see the time and radio station the same time. I recommend this radio I brought it on it ratings and the ratings were right.

I live in the rural area, in the hills. The radio has good reception. It is easy to use.

Nice sound,but it eats batteries up.never had a device that went through batteries like this

Works great. Good speaker. Better reception than other radios. Like the 5 preset stations.

I use at night with a pillow speaker. Good sound quality.

Do not buy. I have owned two of theses radios... the first one went schizophrenic on me after a couple of years, the most recent fell to my hard wood floor from a distance of less than three feet and immediately quit working.
