the availability of this movie on blu ray, for such a low price is surprising. it's released here with clear picture, all soundtrack apparently intact (no licensing issues here, like some others), and my favorite part is it's in it's original issue R rated version. After all, it was a very real story line, with at times violent scenes, and nudity. I'd give it an overall number rating of 7.5 to 8, since I feel is an important historic film, and I found it a kick to watch.

If you lived through the disco years then you have probably seen this movie countless times as I have. This is an absolute must have movie for all the disco-era fanatics !! John Travolta is at his absolute best as Tony Manero, Brooklyn's favorite dancer. The soundtrack, mostly headed by the Bee Gees, is fabulous. The Blu Ray restoration is marvelous. If you want a good look into the 70's disco nightlife and enjoy disco music and great dancing, then do not hesitate to buy this DVD....especially in Blu Ray format. This will make you think it's 1978 all over again !! Highly Recommended !!

The Movie that launched the Disco Era

A forgotten classic. The Movie that launched the `70s disco craze, gave the BeeGees the recognition they long deserved and started the polyester pants, shirts and hair. Fashions have changed but Discos have disappeared and this movie reminds how much fun they were, the distinctive dances, fashions and an era all its own. Hey, who knew Barbarino could dance?

Mild DNR. Only has the R rated cut. PG rated scenes are part of the deleted scenes. Tony Manero (John Travolta) doesn't have much going for him during the weekdays. He still lives at home and works as a paint store clerk in his Brooklyn, N.Y., neighborhood. But he lives for the weekends, when he and his friends go to the local disco and dance the night away. When a big dance competition is announced, he wrangles the beautiful and talented Stephanie (Karen Lynn Gorney) to be his partner. As the two train for the big night, they start to fall for each other as well.

This IS BLU-RAY so please make sure you know what you’re buying. It’s not regular dvd or 4K. I can play all 3 so it doesn’t matter but I know some get confused. THANK YOU FOR HAVING THIS ON BLU-RAY! I appreciate it! If it ever comes to 4K, I’ll probably buy it again to have it on that format. No movie captured the70s disco era and angst like this one and the soundtrack is incomparable. Phenomenal film. One of the best films ever made!

Excellent Musical and Drama Movie! Travolta plays Tony Manero, a Brooklyn paint-store clerk who'd give anything to break out of his dead-end existence. In life, Tony is a peasant; on the disco dance floor, he's a king. The soundtrack plays one Bee Gees hit after another (including "Stayin' Alive"). Tony's class aspirations are mirrored in his relationship with his dance partner, Stephanie (Karen Lynn Gorney), a secretary eager to move into the glamorous world of Manhattan.

This is the movie that made John Travolta famous as well as the Bee Gees. The movie has an excellent story line as well as a great disco soundtrack. I believe the soundtrack was one of the biggest sellers of all time. It's part of the story and fits in but it's a shame the language and adult scenes would prevent me allowing my teen age grand daughters to watch this movie and I know they love the Bee Gees and would love the fabulous music and dancing in this movie. I do believe somewhere there is a PG version but I do think there is some language in that version also.

This is john Travolta breaking into the big picture and he is back in bluray format. The picture was made in the 70s and it's quality is in its best format given it's original source. I brought the movie for it's capture of the style and fashion of the time, especially the highest point of a disco generation. Its a worthy addition to any movie collection and for the price offered at best buy at under 7 bucks, it was a steal.

The movie that made John Travolta a star. Can't believe it's been 40 years. This director's cut adds a couple of minutes back into the movie and also includes the original theatrical version as well. picture and sound are the best they have ever been and extras were good as well. good value for the price.

This Is the breakout movie for John Travolta. His performance is matched , if not topped, by the soundtrack. Tou can't think, or talk, about Disco and not include Saturday Night Fever. It just gives me chills thinking about it! What's even more touching are the scenes that involve "the back seat" and "the bridge". How sad it is that teens still feel the need to be accepted so deeply; even by those who really don't matter or care.

John Travolta is excellent in his first major role on the big screen. He stars as an assistant in a paint shop who dreams of dancing at the local disco and winning a dance contest. The film is set to the (now iconic) soundtrack, which is mostly written by the Bee Gees and includes the songs "More Than A Woman", Stayin' Alive" and the excellent ballad "How Deep Is Your Love". It was awesome to see it back in the day at the movie theater and still great nostalgic fun to see it now on this blu-ray edition.

If you came of age in the age of disco, this film is iconic. If you grew up in the age of disco, this film is iconic. If neither applies, this film is still iconic in capturing a time and place that no longer exists. Come feel the rhythm, style and culture of disco nights in Brooklyn, NY as you follow the journey of Tony Manero from nobody to somebody (at least to himself). The Director's Cut makes it even better.

Its an iconic movie that depicts that era perfectly! The music is the best of the disco era. This movie made John Travolta & the BeeGees! The story line & the actors are very good. While this is a fictional movie, it depicts all aspects of the times so well that I considerate historical as well.

Everyone knows the famous dance numbers, but I believe this is the first time I've ever sat down to watch the whole movie from start to finish. The quality of this Blu-ray is excellent, and this is quite an enjoyable (if less than upbeat) film. Recommended.

Saturday Night Fever is not only a classic 70s film, but one of the all time greats. The film that made Travolta a superstar. Great soundtrack along with a story of young people becoming adults makes this a must see. The Blu Ray transfer is stunning!!!

I bought this to replace the copy I had that was stolen after a breakin in nov. 2013. Actually the sunday ad said it was a bluray copy but since I was a day late getting to the store, all the copies in San Antonio had been scooped up. After a lot of squabbling with store salesmen, one of them offered to see about getting one mailed to me. When it finally arrived it was a regular copy, not the bluray copy the ad promised. So all things given I'm very much LESS than impressed.
