    Most Original Game Since Okami

The graphics for this game are pretty bad, but if you own a DS, you probably aren't too worried about graphics. For the DS, they are pretty standard graphics, and look like a game that could have been made for the SNES. There really isn't a story at all, so if thats what you're looking for, look elsewhere. You collect stars, there is no reason given as to why, but you do. Basically, you are put on screen and given an objective and you must create objects to solve the objective. The only limits are your imagination, seriously. You open up a screen and type in the object you want to use and it appears on screen. They have over 10k items at your disposal, so if you and your friends play this game, you will each solve levels very differently depending on your imagination. There are two different kind of levels, there are puzzle levels and action levels. Puzzle levels are where you have to solve the objective while only using a certain number of items. While in action levels you just try to get to the end of the level where the star is hiding. There are 10 worlds, each world has about 20 action levels and 20 puzzle levels, and will take you a very long time to beat. The only downside to the game is that you use the stylus to move as opposed to the d-pad. This can sometimes cause your chacter to inadvetently kill himself, but its not too big of a deal since most of the game is trial and error anyway.

    Worth Buying

This is one of those rare games were someone actually had an original idea. This game asks you to solve puzzles by thinking of objects that could help you. With over 20,000 words built in, you won't run out of objects to use. This game does get harder, so don't expect to finish right away. The nice thing is that if there are one or two puzzles you can't get in an area, you can still move to the next area. Also, if puzzles aren't you're thing, there are action levels, too. I actually spent about an hour on the main menu the first time I played. It's an open world for you to spawn anything from Flamethrowers to the Rick Roll guy. My only problem with this game is since you don't use the D-Pad to move around with, the character doesn't always go where you want. Your hand could brush the screen, making Max jump right into lava or spikes. Also, your collecting star like things, which isn't original at all. Overall, good fun game. Give it a try!

Best and Most Fun DS game ever

This game is probably the best game I ever bought. I spent at least an hour on the title screen alone, which lets you just mess around with the different things you can make with this game. The puzzles range from being simple and fun to challenging but rewarding, and you can replay the game an unlimited amount of times. The thing I absolutely hated about it though was the controls. The character, Maxwell, is just the most annoying thing you will find in the entire game. because moving and dragging around objects are both controlled with the touch screen, when you accidentally tap the ground instead of the rope you were trying to pick up, Maxwell ends up running right into that pit of lava. oops. Anyway, besides the controls, the game was GREAT! I would recommend this game to anyone of any age. This was the best game ever.

    Challenging and fun

I just got this game the other day, and I am hoooooked. Very original concept, though sometimes it is hard to control certain items and characters. The start menu can be played on, simply screwing around for nothing instead of earning a 'starite.' This game is so fun; I spend so much time on the start menu just playing around, making giant squids kill vampires and skiing down a mountain that I summoned. The first few stages are easy, but as you progress, this game gets pretty hard. Very entertaining, highly recommended.

Great game, i am not very good with spelling. and was a little worried i would not enjoy it, but the program did a great job 'guessing' what word i was trying to spell. there is an almost endless amount of possibltys. i always go for the most stright line aproach to the answer, where my husband wold try to get the most outlandish stuff to work. so it great for you no mater your playing style. then only bad thing is the controls are a little to pen heavy, i would like to se more use of the button along with the pen.

    Revolutionary concept

This game is probably one of the best games I have ever seen for all ages. While it is graphically designed for kids, the gameplay is immense and anyone at any age who likes a puzzle/challenge will find this game addictive. I purchased this for my wife because she loves puzzle games. I also was intrigued about the gameplay. I found myself playing it when my wife was not. My niece and nephew also kept barrowing our copy, so we ended up having to buy another copy! Everyone loves it and we enjoy listening to each other's solutions to the puzzles. It is amazing how such drastic differences in approach still gets you to the same ending result. You will be amazed in how many words this game understands and how it knows each interaction between the items. One time my nephew conjured a vampire to kill another creature, then conjured garlic to kill the vampire. It knew what to do with each item! Amazing game, especially considering it is on the DS and not a larger system.

    Great concept, poor execution

The game does not control right. No, the controls are not buggy, they are just not right. In most games, you control a character, not in this one. In this one, you point to where you want your character to go, and your character tries to go there. Often times, the character will overshoot or undershoot the destination and end up in a pit, knock over an essential item, or bump into an object instead of jumping over it. The concept for the game is a great one: name anything and you can have it. The developers did put in just about every object your could want... which did not go over so well. Many objects do not interact together properly. Level goals are often very vague. The game does not accept every possible legal solution, only the ones that the designers thought of. Invariably, you will develop a set of go-to objects that you will make every level very easy. You could try not to, but trying to use different objects in every stage will frustrate you to a point that you will just resort to an old set of favorites that just work.

I buy games that can keep my kids entertained for more than five minutes and so far so good. This one has managed to keep him entertained for hours and he is eleven years old. It was easy to track down thanks to the online help and it was great that I was able to use the Best Buys gift card he got for X-mas. Thanks and Happy New year Big Corp.

Great game but the controls need work

The title screen alone is worth the price of the game. You can do pretty much anything you want right from the title screen without getting into the pre-built levels. You start out with one environment but as you bring items into the game, more areas will open up (I have opened 12 of the 15 areas). I let my daughters (6 and 4) play on the title screen. They mostly add animals and watch them walk around. If you add two animals that don't get along, like cat and dog, they will fight. The way you can chain items together is incredible. Hungry for some steak...summon a cow, a sword and a grill...awesome! The possibilities are nearly endless. I found a few words that aren't in the game but have suitable replacements. Not many people would use "xerus" when trying to summon a squirrel. Same thing goes for a "dromedary", aka camel. Other words were replaced with more politically correct terms. Any one up for a game of Cowboys and Native Americans? Some similar words (Cheetah, Leopard, Jaguar) will all summon the same item and I think that is reasonable. Unless you want to find out who would win in a fight between a Cheetah and a Leopard. Should you ever decide to leave the wonderful title screen, there are also two types of levels in the game. Both types reward you with Ollars (money) and starites. There are puzzle levels that give you hints about how to solve a problem. Finding a solution will reveal the starite. Then there are the "exploration" levels. The starite is on the screen and you are tasked with figuring out how to best retrieve it. The hints given in both levels can be vague at times. Here is the cool part: Once you solve a puzzle, the next time you open that puzzle, the items you have already used will not be available. You have to come up with alternate solutions to earn more money for the puzzle. Solve the puzzle three ways and you are labeled a genius. Solve it four ways and you are upgraded to prodigy. With 220 total levels, earning genius or prodigy status on all levels will take a lot of work! The game also contains a level creator but I haven't used that so I will not review it. Now, onto the bad news... I bought this game after reading plenty of reviews saying the controls are wonky...and they are all correct. Using the stylus to move the character, Maxwell, is less than optimal. The controls would be much better if you moved with the D-pad. Unfortunately, the d-pad controls the camera. The camera will snap back to Maxwell and some very inopportune moments. My final complaint about the controls has to do with writing the names of items you want. You can choose to either write the letters or tap the letter on an on screen keyboard (QWERTY). Trust me, just stick to tapping the letters. The character recognition is nowhere near as good as Brain Age II. This game is fun for the whole family and limits the words you can use (in a good way). You cannot summon any alcohol or items of an adult nature so the game stays clean. However, you can summon weapons to help solve some problems, or make food. Even with the bad controls, this game is well worth the money. Hopefully, enough people will buy the game and the sequel will correct the control issues...

I am a parent who is not fond of very many Nintendo DS games. This one is amazingly good. It gets kids to practice their spelling. It involves creative thinking. I am intrigued by the database of nouns and their attributes. My son unlocked new areas of the game when he entered ten of his spelling words one week. We'll be using it in more assignments! Bonus: My son really likes it too.

I heard about this game on a Podcast several months ago and pre-ordered it because I knew it would be something I would enjoy. This game is SO creative and it makes you, the player, be creative as well. This is a game I would recommend parents pick up for their kids - I am a high school teacher and I see our students' levels of creativity and imagination dropping across the board. This video game actually stimulates that, so I am recommending it! AND you are rewarded for NOT using weapons! I am a 29 year old female and I am having a blast with this game. Some people are complaining about the graphics, but I like the "hand-drawn" feel they have. If you're looking for something a little different, definitely pick up this one!

This is probably the most popular present the kids found under the tree. They have had hours and hours of fun dreaming up new characters to drop into the scenarios in order to solve the "missions." The kids have spent hours just in the freeplay section, seeing what the game will actually recognize and let them play with. So far, the vampire has been one of the biggest hits!
