I think there are better versions of "A Christmas Carol" but this one is dear to my parents and my in-laws. Not a terrible movie if you want to get into the Christmas spirit.

I've seen all of the "Scrooge" movies and this one takes the cake by a long shot! Albert Finney is masterfully convincing of a "real" Eboneezor Scrooge! Spellbounding entertainment for people of all ages! In fact, I first remember seeing this on TV somewhere between 8-10 yrs. old and have looked forward to seeing it every year around Christmas up to 44! Now I can enjoy it anytime I feel the need to go on a journey without leaving home! The musical numbers are quite good as well, especially "Thank You Very Much"......kinda' sticks with ya! ;-) If you have a heart, you'll love this movie, if you don't have a heart...you will after watching this! I promise.

A Scrooge movie production worth seeing!

Albert Finney's portrayal of Ebenezer Scrooge makes you believe he REALLY is "Mr. Scrooge...I presume." I hate musicals as much as Mr. Scrooge hates people, but not this musical...it works well, especially when celebrating Christmas and the gift of giving. This 5th of November 1970 movie (release date) version of Charles Dickens' classic Christmas story is one of my favorites. It takes you on a journey, nearly two hours worth, offering an alternative approach to understanding who Mr. Scrooge was, is, and will become. How he evolved from a man who by his own proclamation sings, "I hate people, and I don't care if they hate me," to a man who finds out his own meaning and understanding of Christmas, with a little help. He goes from "are there no workhouses," and many a trumpeted "Bah Humbug" phrases to one of redemption. If you haven't already seen this version of the Dickens classic, take a couple of hours this Christmas season to journey back and forth in time along with Mr. Scrooge...this musical adaptation works! And...you'll find your own "merry Christmas' within the storytelling...as does Scrooge himself.

This is by far my favorite version of "A Christmas Carol". Albert Finney does a masterful job as Scrooge. If you like musicals, you'll really enjoy this version of the classic tale. All of the songs really stick with you and they're well done!

This was an excellent DVD version of a classic movie made in the late 1960's. This is a sentimental favorite for us and we've always wanted it on DVD. It is a great movie for all the family.

    Simply awful

I can't believe the good reviews for this movie. It was terrible! I don't know whose decision it was for Albert Finney to play Scrooge old and dottering, but it makes the character seem whiny instead of mean. The "songs," since this is billed as a musical, are awful. One song went "I like life, life likes me . . . ." Seriously, it's Barney-level composing. If you want a GOOD version of Christmas Carol, which also has some good music, get the George C. Scott version from the late 80s. Excellent. My family watches it every year.
