Customers express satisfaction with the 2TB Seagate hard drive's performance, large storage capacity, ease of use, and competitive price. Many also found installation straightforward and the drive to be quiet. While some experienced issues with the warranty and the lack of included SATA cables and mounting screws, these concerns were less frequently reported than positive feedback.

Worked fine while it lasted

I bought a pair of these Seagate 2 TB internal hard drives on August 2014 (this listing is for the retail version of the ST2000DM001-1CH164 hard drives) and had 1 out of 2 fail on me after 3 years.
One of the hard drives is not recognized in the operating system and BIOS, so I doubt that I will retrieve anything from it without taking it to a data recovery center.
I had expected these hard drives to last longer and wasn't too impressed with its complete failure and short warranty time... Really.. Only 1 year?!.. oh well.
Overall: They worked well for me in the 3 years, but I wouldn't trust solely using them for storing important data without any form of extra protection.

Has been working great for a month. Fast drive and very good value. Slightly louder than my WD green drive.

THIS HARD DRIVE WILL NOT FIT INSIDE A PS4!

Don't be a goof like me and just read reviews. I saw all these "works great for my PS4!" reviews and didn't look at the entire specs. The reviewers (except one but he was vague about it) failed to mention that you need a NYKO DATA BANK to use this on a ps4. It's too big to fit inside. It's probably a great drive but I didn't use it so I couldn't tell you. I'm just writing this review so no one makes the mistake I made.

Worked great, even an an old SATA controller

I put this into an old Linux file server I have that only has a SATA I controller (1.5 Gbps speed) that does NOT support auto speed sensing. It worked right away even through the controller doesn't support auto speed, without messing around with the jumpers. Easy peasy.

Great SATA expansion on the cheap...

I bought a pair of these drives for additional storage on my home server. While I was concerned about the drop in warranty (1Yr down from 5yrs that was previously offered with my last pair of Seagate drives I bought a few years ago), I haven't encountered any issues so far and have been generally satisfied with my purchase.

Died just past its warranty expiration.

We got this hard drive to replace the factory-installed hard drive on our Mac. We purchased and installed it with no issues in August 2013. December 2014 rolled around, and it just died. My husband had been running restore programs on a portable hard drive for a few days, and we suspect that this hard drive couldn't handle the work load. The warranty on this drive is only one year, which isn't very long for such an essential piece of computer hardware. I recommend looking at other brands if you need a hard drive that can handle running for a few days straight.

I was a bit hesitant to replace a Seagate 750GB that failed after 4 years with another Seagate, but the price was attractive, and it is SATA 3-ready. Software that came with it is a crippled Acronis that does what it needs to and does a full backup; but I wanted to replace Windows Backup (that is being deprecated in Windows 8) anyway, and the $30 deal for Acronis full (with an extra license free at the time) was also hard to resist. I do wish I had not experimented with the non-MBR formatting that a fresh, full Windows 7 Ultimate installation off factory disk did NOT like. If you are going to try that, try installing Windows before moving stuff from old drive to new 8-|

Easy setup; very fast. Used in a NAS system at home for back-up and movies. Works great, doesn't rust, bust, or collect dust, and drains to the bilge (Navy saying for I like it and use it).

I purchased this drive because an older model of Seagate drive that I had was filling up. I was replacing an old 350 GB SATA 1.0 version drive. The only issue I had was with the packaged software that Seagate sent with the drive to be used to install it. The instructions included with the drive were not accurate. Luckily I build computers as a hobby and was able to decipher what I needed to do to make the software Seagate included work. It might give a novice a little more difficulty. Other than that, the drive is excellent and works like a charm.

Well as long as a hard drive works, most should be pleased with the performance. Comparing to a ssd the performance is horrible as can be expected. Just stick you docs and large files(music/movies) here, so you are good to go.

Purchased this as a replacement for a failed 1TB original hard drive. Installation is actually quite simple... just make sure you don't touch the circuit portion of the new HD and make sure you are properly grounded with the computer chassis.. After installation, I rebooted PC with my purchased copy disc of Windows 7... began installing and everything seemed fine... at about 60 % of the "unpacking files" portion of the install, a fatal system error occurred indicating that install could not be completed because of missing or corrupted files.
Upon trying to reboot, I received a "Boot MGR is missing" - the computer now no longer will even reboot... I go into my BIOS and now discover that the hard drive is not even showing up at all anymore.. I know computers quite well and it didn't take me long to figure out that this "brand new" hard drive had failed..
Judging by my past experience with BestBuy customer service I didn't even THINK of trying to return this thing.. Didn't want the aggravation.. I just ran down to Walmart, bought another cheaper drive and installed it with no problem. Stay away from this drive if you don't know what you are doing as it may wind up costing you a lot more to have an experienced tech fix it.. just saying.

Have this installed in a USB external drive attached as a NAS to my router. Works great except every now and then I hear it click as if the drive is spinning down. This causes me a little concern since I'm using this for file storage.

I used this drive to replace my dying OEM unit. The set up and cloning was simple and everything moved over quickly and correctly with the included software. It included all necessary parts to use as a replacement or secondary drive. Software includes setup for both uses. As a warning if you want to replace your primary drive (the one that has your operating system installed on it) remember to do it before the drive dies to save yourself major headaches.

This drive is my non boot drive, I paired it with a 120gb ssd for a boot drive. So my Seagate is for storage and it is a nice solution,if you are holding out for a WD black and it is still pricey try this drive you will like it.
