This should be a plug and play, but it is not. It is also a little loud. I cannot understand why it is not more simple. It works fine. I have not problems after call to get some help to configure it.

    High Capacity, Great Price

At the time of my purchase, this External HDD was on sale of $129, which was a fantastic price. I normally buy Western Digital hard drives for almost everything, so this was my first Seagate in a while. So far, it's done everything right without issues! The only thing I wasn't expecting was to find that when it was formatted, it only came out to a little over 4.5TB of usable space, but I know that higher capacity drives suffer from those issues.

This is a great harddrive! I bought this for work because I already had a Seagate backup and the current software just recognized this new one, no problem! :)

Purchased this external hard drive to save pictures, documents, and anything that is important. This is my first dragster but So far it's working better than I thought. I usually purchase WD, but thought to give Seagate a try. Plus it was on sale. The download rate is faster then my WD divers. Might start looking to purchase more Seagate brand external hard drive!

Good Price for a great drive

Pros: 5TB is a comfortable amount of data space. Read/Write speed is super fast. Looks very cool when on your work desk. Haven't had problems at all with it Cons: It scratches easily and that corners are razor sharp and requires a powered connection to A/C Power. It's also the size of a small book Recommendations: Get a protective case for this, it will attract less dust than storing it in the box the you received it in. Try to keep dust off of it

    Excellent Storage

I heart seagate they never cease to amaze me with the amount of storage I can have on one external hard drive. Especially for working with graphics, images, and client's file it can get pretty full on a laptop or desktop using up the internal memory. This external came in handy.

incompatible with mac os x yosemite filevault 2

When running Apple Mac OS X Yosemite FileVault 2 encryption on this drive, it only transfers at 20 MB/s for both read and write. Without FileVault it runs at 100+ MB/s. I used the same cabling to hook up a 3 year old Seagate GoFlex drive (also with FileVault 2) and got 100+ MB/s. But it was really pathetic to see my 5 year old Western Digital USB 2.0 hard drive (also with FileVault 2) going at twice the speed of this drive. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. And the worst part is that I actually paid shipping to RMA this, and they send you a refurbished drive (someone else's returned drive) rather than a new one. Out of curiosity I took it out of the enclosure (voiding the warranty, but I'm not going pay more shipping to get more refurbished junk, and my work requires the data to be encrypted so it's just a paperweight now anyway). I hooked it up to a powered SATA-USB 3 dock and it still got 20 MB/s, so the problem is built into the drive and not the SATA-USB connection. I have four other Seagate drives with no problems, and the price these days is fantastic, so I really wanted to make this work. If you search around enough on the internet, others have experienced very inconsistent performance with this drive. Whatever the reason, troubleshooting is a huge pain and ultimately a huge waste of time. If you have any issues with this drive whatsoever, don't waste your time figuring it out. Just return it and get something else.

    It works but...

It works, but it keeps dropping and disconnecting from my Dell Inspiron Win 8.1. Unplug USB and replug and it works.. for a while. None of my other drives do that. Contacted Seagate, was told to try outlet, cable, USB port, when that didn't work was told to contact the Mother Board Manufacturer for any chipset updates. The PC is less then one year old, I feel checking for updates is their job, not mine.

The Seagate 5TB External Hard Drive works as intended. I especially like the fact that it turns off automatically when the connected PC is off - that's one less thing to worry about :)

I picked up this unit from Best Buy today, got home and hooked it up with the included (proprietary) USB cable. I haven't powered it on yet, because the product description lies. The product description says that this is a USB powered drive. It is NOT USB powered, and in fact the actual product packaging doesn't indicate anywhere that it's USB powered. Instead, the drive includes a power cable BECAUSE ITS NOT USB POWERED!!!

Always a great drive. Happy with another drive that is easy to set up. Plug in to power and plug into computer and you are good to go. Easy to use any software that you want to backup to it or even just use a manual backup.

Does not work well with Windows 10

Works fine with Window 7 & 8. Upgraded to Win-10 now its lucky to see the drive at all. Had to delete the USB controllers on my system in order to get to work, Still has problems with locking up and freezing when transferring files, thedrive is also much slower. I could not find any updated drivers from Seagate either. I would not recommend this drive if you are using Windows 10

I am using this drive to host my Plex server by plugging it into a Netgear NIghthawk X6 router. It has worked beautifully. It runs cool and quiet and hasn't had any kind of malfunction in over 6 months of use.
