I installed this device on my LAN and brought it on line with no problems. After downloading the Dashboard software, I configured the backup function, again with no problems. The DLNA server works well with my Yamaha receiver and I stream music over a wireless connection. Again, no problems. However, when I try and set the unit to Eastern Standard Time, or change the name of the device, I get an error; stating that there is no communication to the device. I haven't found a fix for this yet in the Seagate FAQ's. My next step is to try and resolve the problem with Seagate's tech support, I just haven't found the time to do it yet.

This is a great cloud storage device for a small office to store and share files offsite. Great value for the price.

So far it has taken everything I've thrown at it. I'm backing up several computers with plenty of space left over for home movies, photos, etc. Seems to work fine with the DLNA attached devices I have.

Good product for decent price for storage and sharing on a home network, would be better if able to access directly via an I.P. address with login/password without going thru vendors login.

I love this item, and would recommend it to my Tech Savvy friends, As for setup and accessing the online ability remotely you will need to know a little bit about settings and networking.

I love the concept of a wireless network available cloud drive however, the data back up rates are 10mbps which is slow as molasses! The non cloud drives are 512Kbps (USB 2 speed) and up. The engineers should be able to figure out a way to add USB2 and USB3 manual port speeds as an option for back up in which case I would give this 5 stars. If you can hold out till they do this, I would wait. Speed of accessing individual files is OK.

Drive works great my tv, phone, and computer have no issues using and saving files. The interface requires an internet connection to manage but usable offline as basic storage. The menus to get to your files on a tv or phone require more clicking than needed it takes 3 menu screens just to browse by folders. Cant pause, rewind or fast forward like most media servers. If you have a desktop just buy a new internal drive and share it out with allshare other wise as a stand alone NAS it does the job just dont expect server grade file shareing.

Easy setup and has worked reliably for several weeks. Data transfer rate is good for automatic backup which is what it was purchased for. May not support video streaming well.

I could get into huge detail about the difficulty we had setting this up, but I won't. Bottom line: cannot be used simultaneously as a Time Machine backup and as storage for large amounts of data like iTunes or iPhoto libraries. It works fine as either, just not both. This is due to Time Machine dismounting the drive every time it finishes a backup. So, you must remount the drive every few hours to use it for regular files. Also, files on it cannot be backed up by Time Machine at all. We ended up having to buy another regular USB disk drive to use for our files and use this as the Time Machine backup drive for the computer and the second USB drive. Works fine, but I did not like having to buy two drives when one should have been enough.

the external hard drive is an outstanding product. easily set up in just a few minutes. make sure you create your own directory for security reasons on your network. You can have multiple users. works great for my PC, android phone, and my IPAD at the same time. A must have for the tech savy wish to keep his data safe.

Needed a usb to usb cord that I wasn't aware of. It was hard to find and an additional cost. Does not automatically save to "my cloud" which I was disappointed with.

It is nice having everything backed up in case of a computer crash.

I'm still having trouble getting the full functionality out of it. But for basic backup & storage, it's doing great!

I bought this to backup my system so I could get a win7 upgrade. After paying/DLing for the upgrade I found out per windows that a "network" dive doesn't count in windows eyes. So, for me, this was a waste of money. Plus I had to DL a few programs to make the HD work. Which I still haven't been able to put anything on. Do your research before buying so your not stuck with something like me. I have kept it hoping I can find a use for it in the future.
