Poor instructions
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Admittedly a slow learn of electronic gadgetry, I think a holder of several graduate degrees should be able to follow the directions and make this unit operable. I have not given up, but I also have not succeeded. Therefore I am disappointed.

Best Wireless Storage Available
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is so easy. You take your movie files, or your music files and copy them over to the drive, via the USB port. I like to backup my DVDs and Blurays for protection. Instead of loading up my iPad or Kindle Fire (Kids are always on these things) with this large files, i put them on this product. From there i get out there on the road trip, turn the device on, and connect the kids tablets to the WiFi network this product creates in the car. TIP: I like to rename the WiFi network to be the same as my home network, with the same password, so that my kids tablets "think" they are in the house and the kids don't have to mess with the settings. Then they open up the Seagate app, and from there the browse all the content on the drive. the select the movie they want to watch and both of them can watch a different movie at the same time. Makes our road trips up to Tahoe so easy and kids are entertained. I myself have the 500GB version i bring with me on the business trips and watch my movies on the plane. Totally awesome! I never have to worry about not having the movie the kids want anymore, or spending all those late nights copying movies over to the tablets the night before, and i don't have to buy the large memory tablets anymore.

Wifi doesn't work
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this in anticipation of using it as a wifi hard drive. Unfortunately, I got busy with other things and never installed it. By the time I did install it, the return period had expired. When I tried installing it, it became obvious that the wifi wasn't working. I can still use it as an attached hard drive, but it is kind of expensive for that purpose. Try new electronics as soon as you buy them.

May be a single incident.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I only used the hard drive twice & the second time the unit would not open the files I had stored on it. The unit kept making a clicking sound and the light kept flickering on it. I'm returning it and will try a replacement. Hopefully it was only 1 single bad unit & not the product line itself. I had never purchased Seagate products before but tried it based off of a recommendation.

Movie and Music playback
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After researching this and Corsair's Voyager Air constantly for about 3 weeks I decided that the Wireless Plus would better suit my needs because of the DLNA compatibility and storage space (2TB vs Corsair's 1TB). Everything else is directly comparable with the Voyager Air. Well, setup was extremely easy, and connecting was painless. My main use for this was going to be movie and music playback on my brand new Android phone at work when I have down time (I have a LOT of it). The Seagate interface is extremely easy to use, and very straight-forward. Transferring files was a breeze. Music playback was flawless and the quality was absolutely phenomenal. However, playing movies was a royal pain in the butt. My Android phone only supports 3 or 4 different video formats, which required converting EVERY ONE of my DVD's before transferring onto the hard drive. It took forever to find a program that could convert it the right way, and after trying about 6 or 7 different programs I gave up. You have to calculate the bitrate for video and audio, figure out if you have to deinterlace it, and choose various formatting options. You can't be at a main menu while watching the movie and select the "Play" button. Instead, you have to take all menus OFF of the movie so the movie just starts from the beginning. Long story short, I'm returning the hard drive because of the video playback incompatibility with my Android phone. I'm sure some of the problem is my phone, but there are apps that are supposed to be able to play various video formats that your phone natively cannot, and those wouldn't play the movie either. The only other issue is that battery life is NOWHERE close to what is advertised. They say "Up to 10 hours", so I expected 6-8 MAX, unless it was on standby. When I was finally able to watch a little bit of a movie (quality was awful, movie was choppy) I was only able to watch 56 minutes before the hard drive's battery died. THAT WAS AFTER A FULL CHARGE FROM THE WALL SOCKET!!!!! Music playback and battery life is a joke, too. Again, after a full charge from the wall, playing music continuously only lasted about 2 1/2 hours before the battery died. I would recommend this to a friend that used iOS or Windows due to the raving reviews, but I would be extremely cautious if using an Android device to play movies and I would research video playback on your phone or tablet before buying this. Greatly disappointed.

Great idea - Awful Execution [don't buy Seagate]
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this drive specifically because it has a built in router and is 'friendly' to the iPad. The goal was to load it with movies and tv shows from our DVD collection for my wife for when we travel. With 2 TB you can save thousands of shows to watch on your iPad or phone anytime. This device sounds like the perfect solution. It even has a pass through for the internet, so you can have access while using it. The reviews I read warned that it freezes irregularly, but I decided to take a chance, since other wifi drives might not work well with the iPad. The reviews were right - it locks-up fairly regularly, but is easily reset by just holding down the power button for 10-12 seconds. It can also be very finicky about being plugged and unplugged into a USB port. You have to make sure that it is off before plugging it into a computer, and that it is properly ejected before you yank it out. Otherwise, and sometimes even when you do it right, you will spend 15 minutes trying to get it to unlock. When it works it is very slow to boot, and often as slow to shut down. This can make going from USB to wifi painful, since it can't do both at the same time. As mentioned in other reviews, the router only offers the 2.4 Ghz band, so it is not the fastest server either. Despite these problems, and the awful software, we decided that the ability to expand our iPad's effective memory was worth it. We were wrong. The worst thing - the thing that prompted this review, is that having purchased it for Christmas 2015, and having copied hundreds of tv shows and movies to it, it is already dead. Yup, here it is January 17, 2016 (just one month later) and it won't connect by USB or broadcast on wifi. The only thing that works are the two little indicator lights. My computer did give me a brief warning, but it wasn't enough time to copy the files. I kept saying to myself, you need to buy another drive (better brand) to back this up. Then I'd say, just a few more DVDs. It is too late for that now. There is no reset button other than the power button, so few solutions offer themselves. That means hundreds of hours of copying down the drain after only a month of use. If you are considering buying this, or any Seagate product, you should ask yourself, "is my data is too important to trust to slipshod quality?", and "do I really want to spend $200 on a backup drive that may die in 1 month?" My advice - DON'T BUY SEAGATE. Even if they agree to replace this undependable drive with another slow and undependable drive, the data is gone.

Works well for what I need!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The drive does work well for it's intended purpose. It is not the most intuitive to set up without instructions in front of you. It creates a local network between your device and itself but also acts as a bridge to your wireless network if present. If your wireless network is inherently fast the drive could become a bottleneck while bridging your device to that network. Generally not a big deal for me as the advantage of having that feature is certainly worth giving up a little network speed.

Unstable
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. On and off works about 50% times. I have to keep on turning it on. Also, when it is disconnected from computer, sometimes it is keep on blinking. I searched for all the troubleshooting online/offline and found out that it is just like that and cannot be fixed. When it is working, it is good.

Many Problems
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this for travel with iOS and Mac The salesman told me this was specifically for MAC. . Poor battery life when playing music. Can't imagine watching a movie on one charge. Disconnections during streaming, needed to reset repeatedly to discover the device on iPad, sparse instruction manual from website, difficult to find backed up files, buffering problems and again poor battery life when trying to resolve issues. Very frustrating. Too expensive.

Apple Owners Beware
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this streaming hard drive so my kids could stream iTunes movies in the car on a long trip, and so I could do the same on flights. I searched the Best Buy website for "portable hard drive to stream iTunes Movies" and this specific hard drive was the only one that came up. I excitedly ordered it online and picked it up from the store. After opening the package to load up my movies, I found out that Seagate hard drives are NOT compatible with iTunes movies. This, despite the Apple logos on their packaging and the packaging specifically saying that they are compatible with iOS6 or newer. I called Seagate and they confirmed that I could stream iTunes music, but not their movies. And now, on top of everything else, I am 38 days post purchase and Best Buy won't even let me return the device. I am beyond frustrated now, and will be even more frustrated on that car trip.

Not as advertised for MAC
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Long on concept short on delivery/execution. The wireless process worked once and never worked again. Not sure if it needs to stay only on initial network but that would defeat portability. Might work better on PC but I got non stop errors or time outs or it was trying to read all the files for loading. Guys, it's a 2 TB drive!!!! Really every time you want to see any content wirelessly you have to wait for it all to load?! Forgotten why I quit buying seafarers now I remember.
